I partially agree, but if there is no other team linked there isn’t a need to outbid themselves either. Waiting for the price to drop is smart with the available players in the FA right now. If a team is linked I’d start asking them to pony up as well. For now it reminds me of the JDM situation.

@@redseatradio Robbie comes up some really off the wall trades I would never see happening so I don't always watch those videos so this was just from me but there's so much smoke between SD and Boston that something has to be going on but the needs don't match up so Miami makes all the sense in the world for a partner if the SD to Miami part can be worked out. SD needs so much I don't know what they can give up that Miami would take other than maybe the young pitching prospects Lesko or Snelling but the only way we work with SD is to get Lesko or Snelling and I don't think SD gives up both of them so it's hard to know where it goes but it makes a lot of sense for a 3-way trade

Of course King was traded for Soto. Hence why Padres wouldn't trade King for Duran.

Trade Refsnyder or Masataka Yoshida or Cedanne Rafaela from the outfield for Snelling (not Lesko) or Michael King.

@@kevinstott3657I’m not sure you understand mlb value. Refsnyder doesn’t equate for a top end pitching prospect. Yoshida doesn’t with his contract, Rafaela has iffy hit. Not sure who believes in him. He’ll be a polarized prospect. If padres believe in him then sure go for it. Duran has less risk, decent upside and a ton of control

He's obviously a throw in Refsnyder, Yoshida we may eat some salary, Cedanne Rafaela or Bleis would be the headliner and maybe an arm back of lesser standard. If it's a controlled young arm they only have 1 worth Duran unless it is King (how many controlled years with King?) but are those MLB ready arms controllable Musgrove has injuries, shoulder, elbow...but he has 4 years left. If it's me I'd try to keep Duran, Anthony, Bleis and Rafaela myself which is why I say try to trade 2 MLB OF in Yoshida and Refsnyder or other prospects not named Meyer, Teel, or Anthony

That’s why they had to accept 50 cents on the dollar for Soto and they had to dump Grisham in that deal. The beauty with getting Duran satisfies 2 needs. First, it gives them another established bat to add to their over 30 core. 2, it doesn’t add to their payroll. Getting Bleis doesn’t do much for them because they’re window with Darvish/musgroves/machado/bogaerts is now. They need to add to it with an established player but they can’t add payroll. Even taking 1/2 of yoshida’s contract is probably a non starter because they can’t add payroll

@@redseatradio i agree that improving our prospects pipeline would be a good move Corbin; but we have to consider that it has been a tough off-season for the whole fan base for the reasons we all know. So, in my opinion, it would be a good move but not in the current context, not in a situation where the fans are so much frustrated because of a non-winning strategy and a very bad communication by the ownership. That's why i was saying it would be the last nail in the coffin; would be very hard to see the fans to accept this kind of move.

We're never trading No No Joe, he's our hometown hero. Besides, we're trying to win. Giving up our #1 SP = zero chance. I'm not buying high on Duran anyway. I'd give Iriarte and lower prospect, but definitely not Snelling or Lesko.

@@redseatradio I don’t believe so. I think Duran is a great piece to have. He’s young and controllable he got speed and power. Plus his defense is improving. Why trade him for an old pitcher who’s got an injury problem although looking at his career stats he’s not a bad pitcher. King is a good option but I don’t feel like he’s worth Duran. Maybe I’m bias because I love my team though. I don’t see any reason to get rid of Duran at all. Buy pitchers to add to the young squad don’t trade the young talent for pitching, then you will need hitters and fielders. They gotta use money not trade chips to improve

The trades here are out of hand. We aren't trading Salas, guys (or Musgrove, King or Tatis). If by some crazy chance they did trade Salas they'd do it for Luzardo as the piece, not Duran and a bunch of point fillers from the trade simulator. You guys should just keep him anyway. The last thing you want is to let yet another good player get away.

Duran's "Baseball Trade Value" I believe is actually closer to 45, not 34 to begin with ... The Red Sox need a top of the rotation starting pitcher who has contractual team control over the next three to four years ... Unless Luzardo or Gilbert are part of the deal, I totally agree with you that the Red Sox should keep Jarren Duran ... @@rayfinkle9369

It wouldn’t be punting on the season if they are bringing back a major league caliber arm. That’s the biggest need on the team right now and you have 5-6 outfielders right now. Duran’s production is replaceable we don’t have anyone to replace anything in the rotation.

That's the entire point of the video. The red sox asking price for Duran is astronomical and I don't think it makes sense for either side value wise.

@@redseatradio Granted. But .381 is awfully high, and it's doubtful that he'll sustain that in future seasons. In fact, Fangraphs projects his BABIP going down to .326, with a .257 BA and .320 OBP. Surely SD knows this...which is why they will NOT give up a top pitcher, or any top pitching prospects for Duran.

@@redseatradio Way too many "if's".. Grissom has potential. hasnt proven anything yet. Tommy Pham is terrible at baseball... O'Neil was a replacement for Verdugo, and is roided out of his mind, so injuries will always be a concern. Also, has only had one productive mlb season in his career. Duvall, I hope he resigns. Story, fingers crossed he stays healthy.

I watched the video. A trade with the Padres does make sense...for the young, controllable starting pitchers that I mentioned. Sorry, but you are completely out of touch with reality if you think you are getting Joe Musgrove or Jesus Luzardo in a Jarren Duran trade. @@redseatradio

I think you have to realize that you are also wildly overvaluing your players as well. No duran alone will not get Luzardo but a package including Duran definitely will. And why would the Red Sox give up Duran simply for some of your low level pitching prospects genuinely

As I mentioned, Duran had a 2 WAR in his one good season. The year before, weren't Sox fans calling for his head? I've shown you the offensive home and away stats. He's at best a 1 WAR player away from Fenway, and that with suspect defense...which must be really suspect with all that speed. I haven't even mentioned his .381 average on batted balls in play, where .300 is the league average, nor his penchant for strikeouts. Finally, look what the Red Sox gave up for Tyler O'Neil. Look, I'm just saying there's a reason the Red Sox are trying to sell high on Duran. Personally, in spite of what the statistics say, I like Duran as a player. He's from So Cal, and maybe he can sustain some semblance of his resurgence with a return out west...but a regression to his norm would be the safe bet here. That said, the two pitchers I mentioned aren't low level pitching prospects, as you mention. That would define what the Sox gave up for O'Neil. The pitchers I mentioned were ranked 7th and 14th in the Padres system last year, and both should be in their top 10 heading into 2024. Vasquez pitched to a 3.23 ERA in the majors last year. The Sox could certainly do a lot worse, and IMHO, won't do better. Time will tell @@redseatradio

and the Marlins don't need outfielders. They are looking for a SS and a catcher. They don't align at all for a Duran trade. @@redseatradio
