I like squirrels, too, Mike, but it seems like I spend most of my time threatening them or fussing at them for eating all of the bird food. I do have to admit that I have eaten hundreds if not a thousand gray squirrels in my lifetime. I come from a long line of squirrel hunters and there were years when the squirrel protein was counted on for an important part of our diet as well as being quite tasty. Not the little red squirrels that you have in your photographs but the gray squirrels that have become an invasive species in your country. I knew a couple of guys from Wales that used to come over every September and camp with us and hunt squirrels for several days. We had some great times before I got old.
I love this video. I've already watched it a couple of times :-) You’ve been rewarded with some beautiful footage and photos for all your physical efforts Mike. There’s a wood very similar to this near me. I haven’t seen any red squirrels there, but there’s quite a lot of greys, which can be observed if you can stay still long enough :) Thanks for posting.
Excellent (again)! When the video started I was wondering whether you were going to pull out one of your pop-up hides but clearly no need! Did it make much difference if you used peanuts or hazel nuts to bring in the squirrels?
@@MikeLaneFRPS hazel nuts are better for them and indigenous, i only use beechnuts, seeds or hazelnuts, but if it works great, and it looks like it didlovely sound nibbling hazenuts
Great video Mike, i also came across some Red Squirrels in Cumbria quite a few years ago, i am now going to fish out my old hard drive to see if i can do something with the images, at the time i was not impressed.
Great video Mike I have still yet to photograph the Red Squirrel . My nearest spots are Brownsea Island or the Isle of Wight . Lovely action on the log, they are very lovable Mike 👍
Nice butt-shot of the squirrel with the dji camera 🙂 I'm looking for squirrels in our local forrest, but there are very few of them, so they are hard to find.
Great video! Would be interested to know where this is, I live in Penrith and there are a few good red squirrel areas but this seems like a place for guaranteed sightings!
@@tomscott88 well there you are then! 👏😀👍. Personally I never publicly share locations, I’ve seen too many times what can happen when birders descend en masse! Nothing personal and I’m not suggesting you aren’t responsible, unfortunately many are not! Cheers 👍
