A red-tailed hawk caught what looks like a large gopher snake at the local RC field. The snake puts up a struggle, but resistance is futile. The hawk is going to have a nice breakfast.
The Hawks, Eagles, Falcons, and other birds of prey have two things in common... they have powerful beaks and claws like a mechnical vice-grip... once they got hold of their prey, they are doomed...
The Red Tailed Hawk is awesome, but just as a reminder, make sure to appreciate the gopher snake (I think) a little too. Snakes are an important middle link in the food chain, they help keep small pest populations under control, and then feed medium sized mammals and birds of prey when their time comes.
@@luisarashirovideo con más razón a una insignificante águila, hay muchas serpientes que devoran águilas como así también águilas que les ganan a pequeñas serpientes.
I just watched this play out up near the treeline...big hawk and a snake...got out the binoculars and watched from about 75 yards...that hawk knew I was watching.I walked out onto the deck and he turned to look at me...what senses they have.
Hawk: Sorry bruh I gotta make it look convincing. The wife says I never do anything. Hawk wife: Babe are you done yet? We gotta get home and we still haven't dropped by my mother's house! Snake: Damn man you gotta see the the in laws? Hawk: Yeah, her mom's the worst. Tell you what I'm gonna fly off and drop you mid way. Snake:Sounds like a plan. We still on for drinks tonight? Hawk: Totes
You shouldnt be. There one of the few predators that youre more of a threat to them than they are to you. That being said Red Tails are territorial and you shouldn't get to close to a wild one. But even if that did happen the worst youd get are some scars and cuts on your upper body. It cant kill you, in fact with a stiff backhand you can really mess up a bird. Thats why they are so protected in the United States. ....that and DDT. 😢
Nope! There's only one species of snake that spits , and it's the spitting-cobra. That spit has pin-point accuracy. There's no creature's eyes that doesn't get irritated from its venom. This hawk wouldn't have killed a spitting cobra. That's a footage that I wanna see. I've already seen footage of an eagle losing to a black mamba.
I have a red tail hawk nest in my backyard and they are nesting right now. Yesterday one of the parents flew right over me carrying a snake about a foot and a half long...damn I WISH I had my phone with me to video that!!! wow....
Awesome Nancy. I love birds of prey. We have a Pair of Great Horned Owls that have nested in our backyard for the past two years. I’ve found Squirrel and bunny body parts but no snakes yet. Watching them catching a snake would be cool.
First thing came to mind is birds are like angels from above, snakes are satan's from below to fight a battle and that is why my first pet was a pigeon, doesn't have to be white, but came from aboveground strong in nature and most powerful by force.
These birds seem like loners most of the time and I've seen them on the interstate usually perched alone on light posts. I think I've seen two together once.
resistance is futile !!! What a great line. I was surprised to learn that snakes are one of the red hawk's major food sources. The second hawk was probably its mate -- mamma ! -- telling him to quit mucking about and come home; those always-hungry babies are about to drive me to drinking !! What a great video; thanks for posting, even though this is about 3 yrs. later -- ha
Man....dat hawk literally toying with his meal...😂😂when he grabbed his head with his claw it was sure dat snake is done for it...sad life..AMEN indeed🙏🙏
Hermosas Imponentes Majestuosas !!! Por ése motivó son símbolos de Poder !!! A los Mexicanos nos llena de Orgullo tener en nuestra Bandera Nacional plasmada Un Águila devorando a una serpiente !!!
Dam amazing footage, I always see these guys around. They once took my neighbors little dog. But hey its nature...they have to eat. But thanks for the video 👍
Sun Tzu taught that when fighting on open ground where surprise is difficult is likely to be helpful for the stronger force. That snake paid a terrible price being the weaker force on open ground . lol
In general Hawks have the upper hand over snakes. Awhile back i read a page on an Oudoor News Magazine here in South Texas where a patrolling Game Warden noticed a Hawk swooped down on some brushland and saw all the russlting and got off to go check, to his surprise he saw a (black Indigo) wrapped around the predator nearly choking the Hawk to death!,..Happy ending was a saved Hawk as Officer pulled the fight apart!, Regards from South Texas!
GREAT VIDEO!!!!!! HUGE fan of the red tailed!!!!! Where was this taken? Out here in the PA the red tailed are everywhere and I have so many pics of them, but man ours are tiny compared to these! Great video, you did an awesome job, I enjoyed watching it!
We have some BIG red tails here in ohio...just watched one take out a sneaky snake just like this video and then he flew off too...he heard me from 75 yards at least...what great senses they have. I even saw a big red take out two falcons once...they thought that they hadt he upper hand and boy oh boy he showed them a thing or two...was like national geographic when he grabbed them one at a time and gave them the beak then perched himself and looked at them with his headdress sticking straight up...they flew off in the opposite direction after they had composed themselves from the whoopin haha. I used to line near Washington,pa. now I`m near kent.ohio..good day :o) Jean
I know some people like Dingo love all animals like snakes and I can respect that. I on the other hand adore the birds that kills them. Such graceful creatures. They are the majestic guardians of the sky and no one can mess with them!
A few months ago a Red-shouldered hawk i watch dove out of a tree and snatched a 2.5-3 foot snake out of the edge of a crick and flew right over me with it!
Are Hawks and other large birds immune to snake's venom? surely tussling with these serpents it will strike them a few times, but you never really hear about if the venom has any affects on the birds later on
Their great eyesight and small body size gives them great reaction time. It's weird how it works but typically they don't get bit. They also do a matador technique in which they try to get the snake to aim at the feathers and strike the snakes head when they pull the wing away. Tragically though there have been multiple scenarios in which a snake or cat has killed the hawk instead of vice versa.
Red Tails have scales on their legs and the snake's fangs cannot penetrate that armor. Hence they can take out rattlesnakes. That is an interesting process.
Snake: Why are you standing on me/ Hawk: Very hot sand Snake: Why are you touching my lips? Hawk: I love you Snake: Why are you attacking me? Hawk: Am hungry
the hawks are likely a mating pair...the one killing the snake is the male and the female has come to find out what is taking so long to take the meal back to the chicks in the nest....the male had to make sure the snake was dead because the snake could have 1) bitten the hawk in the air, or 2) bitten one of the chicks back at the nest...that hawk knew exactly what he was doing even though his girlfriend was a bit impatient...these animals are a lot like humans....the guy is doing all the work while the woman sits and bitches
I hate to burst your bubble, but like most Hawks and Eagles, the female red-tailed is up to 25% larger than the male. So the hawk wrestling the snake is female and her mate came to see what's going on and offer encouragement ;P
