as a gay, im just happy we are getting more "light hearted" stuff like this romcom and Heartstoppers. cause there are a lot of lgbtq movies/shows where i have to be worried a character will be dead by the end.
I go back well before Stonewall. Back then, gay characters were either portrayed as silly while lesbians were often the killers. They couldn't even say the word. Characters were indicated by a limp wrist and a knowing smile. (In the 1960 Hitchcock movie, Psycho, which set new standards for depictions of blood, the first time a toilet was ever shown flushing, the movie opens with an unmarried couple after just obviously having a tryst in a hotel room, it was the inclusion of the word "transvestite" in the explanation at the end which most upset the censors. Hitchcock had to literally show them the dictionary definition that it meant cross-dressing, not some weird underground sexual practice.) I remember how we considered it such a mark of progress was the release of the film, Boys in the Band, a depiction of a bunch of stereotypical bitchy queens. (It kept me in the closet for years as I thought this was how all queer men acted and I had no desire to meet any.) I literally grew up not knowing any gay man. I would hear rumors about some of the top leading men in Hollywood, but my hopes would be dashed when I heard they had a wife (not knowing of bisexuality nor of studio-forced marriages to quell any rumors). I remember when actors of whatever persuasion were terrified to take any such queer role as it might mark them for life.
My goodness YES! I understand that sad stories also need to be shared cause thats reality, but so do good ones. Lest bring back the OG meaning of GAY and let's all have a gay old time especially in the movies💜
Queer people don't usually get these cheesy romcoms, the movies are generally more drama oriented and traumatic so I loved this movie and I really enjoyed the book. A feel-good flick with hot actors is all we want sometimes.
@@pixycomet3937 Not another book, unfortunately, though there is the extra chapter from Henry’s POV in the collector's edition they could work off of. Mathew (film director) and Casey (book author) have paired up to write the script together, commissioned by Amazon. This was announced at a fan screening back in May. So whatever we see in the sequel, will be from the same creative mind behind the original source material. There have been rumours we might even get a trilogy!
@@dgirl786 omg that’s so cool! I love with the original author gets to work on movies and shows so it actually feels canon to the story! Thanks for the info, I’m excited :)
I just gotta pause real quick and say that this is probably the first time I've seen Roxy smile THIS BIG and it's so contagious lol aldjhajhs LET'S GOOOO!!
All of us Strangers, it just came out last year, hardest I have cried in a movie for a long time. Andrew Scott gave the performance of his career and was robbed of an Oscar nomination. Deals with romantic love, familial love and love within yourself.
The "For Kristy" at the end is a dedication to Taylor's (Alex) sister who was excited to see the first movie he's done where he is the main star but sadly passed away before the movie was released. Another sad fact is that one of Taylor's dogs died while he was filming the cake incident part of the movie and Nick (Henry) and Matthew (the director) tried to cheer him up as much they could.
Fun facts! -Henrys dad was an actor that played Bond, so yes Henry is supposed to be a 'bond wannabe' :) -For Kristy is Alex actors Taylor Zakhar Perez sister who passed and the director asked him if it was ok to dedicate it to her since she didn't get to see the movie to the end -Theres a sequel at works!!! So happy yall reacted to this!
"Gay as a mapyole" - A maypole is a tall pole or tree, adorned with ribbons (that people hold) and that is used for a traditional dance, it represents fertility - but where the ribbons represent the feminine, the maypole itself is also seen phallic and masculine. It's traditionally linked to pagan history and danced around at the start of summer in some British villages. (I'm British but still had to google, haha🤣)
No, Not just „in some British villages“! Considering the fact that this pagan Germanic tradition is actually pretty sparsely celebrated in Great Britain nowadays, especially in comparison to how all the other Central and Northern European countries (the ones who have originated from Germanic tribes) still celebrating this ancient pagan ritual much bigger and are aware of its historical roots, which can’t be said for most of the UK, even when considered to be also germanic. In Britain the 1st of Mai isn’t even a public holiday (literally the opposite to almost all of mainland Europes countries). The festive celebration surrounding the erecting of a traditional maypole in town main squares, at the evening before the 1st of May (a free of work holiday in almost every European country) exists as a several thousand years old folklore tradition traced back to the iron age, and was even able to survive through Europes Christianisation, is still a thing and is much bigger celebrated in ALL THE OTHER GERMANIC BASED EUROPEAN NATIONS compared with what it has become in the UK. So it is pretty offensive and disrespectful as well as arrogant say that „this being some British village thing“, when the Maypole celebration origins are geographically based in the german area and are still to this day a big part of the Germans folklore/culture. It literally comes across as if the Brits appropriate, AGAIN(!), a significant part of OUR culture, like they also have done with all the nowadays usual Christmas celebration customs know n all over the world, which are not cultural British at all, and actually been brought in to the English society by King George III‘s wife the german Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz and kept as tradition alive through her also german breed daughter in Law princess Victoria of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld, who then have passed the tradition down to her daughter legendary Queen Victoria (examples like: the Christmas Trees, decorations, celebrating and unboxing presents at Christmas eve instead of the first day of Christmas, Christmas markets and even claiming (figuratively by representing the US, responsible for created this monster) „Santa Claus“ when he obviously is actually just a knock of version of the German „Weihnachtsmann“ as well the „Nikolaus“ mixed with his the Dutch counterpart „Sinterklaas“ and boosted with magical powers based on another German Christmas gift bringer the „Christkind“ just because a graphic designer working for CocaCola have colored his costume in a different color than his usual depiction)
Earlier H: I can't afford for you to fall in love with me A: Get over yourself Your Majesty! Later A: *plays "Can't Help Falling In Love With You"* im OBSESSED with this movie 😭💞 I love your reaction! Hope you both already got to read the book by now 😊 EXCITED for the sequel and looking forward to your reaction vid then 😃
I love how much Roxy loves rom coms. ❤ It's so sweet. When I came out to my mom she told me not to tell anyone so people would thing she didnt raise me right, so when I see sweet scenes like that with him and his mom I always tear up.
I can't believe some people have said that Nicholas and Taylor have no chemistry. Their connection felt so organic and effortless. I could feel the angst, the hurt, the longing, the love and the friendship. I really love how the sex scene is so much more than sex, it's truly making love. It was so intimate that I felt like I was intruding on something very personal between two people. This one of the most beautiful, complex romances I've ever seen in a movie. But also a great depiction of what it's like to be in a position where you are afraid to be who you are.
There is sooo much more in the book you would love the book! In the book Alex is shorter than Henry so that’s what was so cute about the height difference jokes when Taylor is a tiny bit taller than Nick 🤣
Glad they’re doing a sequel. Hoping they’re getting all the principals back, including Uma, Sarah Shahi and Stephen Fry. Uma and Sarah were perfect in their roles. And this may be because it’s Stephen Fry playing the role, but I just got the sense that the King might potentially be deeply closeted himself. I know the book’s different, but it would be quite the twist if that were to be part of the sequel. You guys might also want to react to Nicholas Galitzine in The Idea of You with Anne Hathaway, and Mary and George with Julianne Moore.
I would just like to say I appreciate your open mindedness for this film. Not just because it is a gay film but because it was just a really nice romcom and no it is not academy award winning material but I beleive it is important that the LGBTQ+ community see normal. Some of the reactors, gay and straight, whatched this just to make fun of it. It is not that I think that reactors should not react honestly but just say this is not for me or I didn’t enjoy it but don’t spend the whole movie make fun of it. Also, some might think that a story about the romance between a gay prince and the Bi son of the president is a fairy tale but the real fairy tale here is that a democratic with a bi son won in Texas the most closed minded state in this country. Yes, I am ashamed to say I am a Texan. I also have appreciated your reaction to Twilight. You seemed to like it but were honest enough to call out when it got cheesy with out belittling the acotors or the movie.
I have seen dozens of reaction videos to this film. I have watched the movie everyday for 3 months - and will continue doing so. This is by far the best viewing of " Red, White and Royal Blue on u-tube. And Roxy, you pretty much spoke for me. Amazing that a man as handsome as Nick could be pushed out of the spotlight by another a beautiful as Taylor. Thanks so much for letting me watch this with you, AND for your post movie comments. ciao
The actor who played Alex is Taylor Zakhar Perez. He had a role in a movie called The Kissing Booth 2. And the other actor is Nicholas Galitzine. You can see him in such movies as Purple Hearts, The idea of you.
Nicholas Galitzine is also in Bottoms, The beat beneath my feet, Handsome Devil, High Strung, Cinderella and a few others as well. I love his absolutely chaotic energy as Jeff in Bottoms😂 And he’s got such an amazing voice. I love his songs in the Idea of you❤ Nick is the master of subtle acting really.
the guy playing prince henry is called nicholas galitzine who played jeff in bottoms which is probably why andrew recognises him! absolutely loved the reaction guys and your enthusiasm throughout, one of my favourite movies of all time ❤
The budget for the movie was incredibly low. I think around $50 million. Everything was filmed in England. And many viewers (not me!) complained about the background cgi. Didn’t bother me at all, so I’m glad you were impressed. Delightful review!
I have not read all the comments, because there are many, but the Genious castiing of Stephen Fry as the King (as an openly Gay Man) was wonderful...as was real Journalists!
For RWRB, I do believe it's better to watch the movie first and then read the book. You don't get disappointed that some stuff and characters unfortunately had to get cut off in the movie, and you get great physical references to picture the book scenes.
I agree totally! The book is so wonderful, as is also the movie. But the book is more, their thoughts and reactions come forward, we see everything from Alex's view.
I watched this movie last year, and as a Fellow Gay I'm glad it exists, we need a variety of upbeat gay films, but it was also so damn ridiculous lmao (and I say this as a romcom fan). When Stephen Fry showed up as the homophobic king of England I swear I nearly peed myself from laughing. I sent no-context screenshots of this movie to all my friends in the middle of the night, we all thought this was a collective hallucination.
Roxy would be ecstatic to know that Taylor also advocates and does work for and with disabled children and has so for years! golden hearted, smart, talented AND HOT! he eats at life ❤❤❤
I don't watch much reaction videos of any channel, but gotta say I ABSOLUTELY love watching Roxy's genuine reactions... ESPECIALLY when she's smiling, being giddy and just falling for characters/actors.. She's just like one of us..!! It's a whole vibe..
ROXY: “No that would be….gay man outing another bi-man,Idk,that would be a tough term of events.” Oh Honey, the term of events ARE tough. 😅 it really be your own people man 🧍♂️
33:26 - I remember the first time I was intimate with someone, I remember feeling his skin touching mine after we parted ways. I'll never forget how I felt.
Roxy you haaaaaaaaave to read the book, the movie cuts so much great stuff out 😭 If, like me, you’re not a reader (ADHD is a bitch y’all) then I recommend the audiobook version ❤
I love this movie so much, and Taylor and Nicholas did such an incredible job portraying all sides and shades of Alex and Henry's relationship, it's insane. Chemistry off the charts!!! Also, I love how many times you guys mentioned Henry as a James Bond wannabe, cause you totally missed the part of the debrief that Alex says Henry's dad was a beloved actor that played James Bond before he passed. He is James Bond's son. And a prince. And he has Bond's actual car. So yes, Bond is kinda part of him lol Also, the guy in the end telling the King to tell them not to go public, and calling the king "grandpa" is Henry's older brother, Philip. Not his cousin. He is the heir. Anyways, loved loved loved your reaction, Roxy represented me watching this lol Same reactions lol Love it!
I suggest you guys to watch more Stephen Fry movies. He's known for his legacy in the queer community. You guys have know idea what means having him to be a part of this film.
I love you BOTH so much! This movie is such a FEEL GOOD film and to see Roxy enjoying it so much just makes it even BETTER! Thank you for watching this! ❤
i love how much y’all compare henry to james bond as jokes - i don’t think it made it into the movie, but in the books his dad was actually an actor who famously played james bond!!
Fun facts: - Alex has a sister in the book that moves back after college and lives in the white house, Alex and June are very close - Miguel does not exist in the book but there are other characters and side stories - The book focuses more in politics - In the book you can find the emails that are later hacked. I personally loved that they used an email format and not just regular text - And last but not least, Nora (Alex's best friend) is also bisexual
I can't believe you guys finally reacted to our boyssss! Obsessed with them since I read the book in 2022, such a romantic and sexy love story. Roxy represents all of us lol, LOVED her reaction and girl if you read the book you'd freak out, so goooood!
LMFAOOO 28:51 Yeah leave it to the straight dude to be watching the view outside the windows while all the gals and gays are focusing on something else. 34:37 my dude struggling to get his comment about the reporter outing them while Roxxye is jus "clothes off clothes off, yeah yeah the reporter" hahahah this is so s funny
My husband and I enjoyed the film as well. We were especially happy when we read the sequel screenplay is currently in production, and that the main players have been signed on to recreate their roles. It should be and hopefully will be better than the first.
I loved the reaction! It is a film that allows you to dream, that even though things get bad, love can be above all. The chemistry between the protagonists is incredible, the small gestures, the looks, Henry's panic at feeling like he is in a prison without allowing himself to express his love for Alex. Alex's complete amazement at Henry's first kiss turns his world upside down. How Henry was already in love from the beginning but hid it under layers of conceit and snob and how Alex fell deeply in love when he met the real Henry, being the only one who could see through the armor that protected Henry's heart.
Roxy should do more rom coms 😂 She will always be our Scream Queen (Along with Tara ❤) but damn her enthusiasm and passion for these types of movies is just 😂 And Andrew is just sitting there quietly lol love it.
Yay thank you guys so much for this amazing and relatable reaction!! I didn’t expect it, love you!! PS: yes Taylor Zakhar Perez (played Alex) is absolutely enchanting!! One of the most gorgeous men I’ve ever seen honestly ugh lol!! 😍🥵🔥 Same with Nicholas Galitzine (played Henry) so freaking pretty!! 🤩💕
What Henry said was... "I am as gay as a maypole." You guys can Google it up! It's basically a tall pole wrapped by colorful cloths. That's why Henry said he is as gay as that.
It’s funny that you kept calling Henry James Bond because in the book his father played James Bond. You also briefly guessed that Richards, the Republican candidate, would be the one to out them and in the book he does. Miguel was created for the movie.
