Red Wing 676 Resole #56 

My father was a WWII veteran and still have his RedWings in my closet. Every time I open the door there they are. Then bring me back to a wonderful childhood and loving family. Miss you Mum and Pops.

Those are my little brother's boots. I shined a lot of shoes at our dad's shoe shop! And did a lot of lacing of moccasin toed shoes also! I can just smell the glue and polish......lots of love you put into those boots. Makes me smile....really big!

That's my baby brother's boots- and he is talking about our Dad's shoe store- OMG! I'm crying!

Really liked this format. It gives some context with the boots. My dad, who was a carpenter his whole life, shared with me his thoughts on work boots. He said “buy the best you can afford and then treat them like your friend. They’re every bit as important to your success as a horse was in your grandpa’s day”. I never forgot that

You are doing something right. Your trade is a lost and dying art. A pair of boots is more than a pair of shoes. To many, they're a staple to their family. In the fact that that is what a man chooses to wear when he gets up to go support his family. They wear and tear, the character shows up. It tells their story when you see the petina a good pair of boots develope. Keep up the art in keeping boots on peoples feet.

You’ve definitely given me a huge inspiration to bring back craftsmanship. I have cerebral palsy and for me it’s difficult to do an average 8-10 hr job on my feet like others but making things or restoring things and having the ability to sit when needed helps. I have been watching your videos for a while now and it just blows my mind. I thoroughly enjoy your stuff. Please keep up the great work and just know that you’ve got people like myself that you give encouragement to. Thanks bro !

Man you are a true craftsman. My cobbler is in his late 70's early 80's Elio's Shoe Repair in Albany NY. He has those old green cobbler machines and a Singer long arm sewing machine. I don't know what I'll do when he retires. He's resoled my Red Wing & Carolina boots and 3 pair of my Cole Hann dress shoes. He buffs & polishes my shoes every 3 months. Cobbling is becoming a dieing art in our sad throw away society. So keep your head up and be proud of your trade & craftsmanship. Beautiful mindful execution.

I worked next to a shoe/boot store I think the owner died because he never came back to get his stuff, I loved having my nikes last longer taking them to him to resew or reglue… My dad had a pair of cowboy boots rebuilt by him and its sad we don't have more guys like you to work on repairing boots and other leather goods.

I have those same boots from Redwing . I have had them for over 20 years on so many construction jobs that I can't even remember. Every time a bring them to my Boot Maker he marvels at the workmanship of my Redwing Boots. Yes, I emotionally attached to my Redwing Boots. 😀 Great video. 👍

I have a pair of Redwings #607 that I wear at work (police) and I ride motorcycles. I was about to buy another pair but after seeing this channel I’m not because I’m going to wear these till they need to be re-worked and brought back to life the way your do. Sadly, this is a dying art and that’s great that you are able to keep the spirit of hand arts alive. Salud!

I have a similar pair of redwing boots and it was interesting to see what a proper re-sole should look like. I have yet to find a boot repair shop in my area that does this work half as well as you do. I am curious, I see you often add nails to the toe end of the sole. Could these nails affect the water fastness of the boot?

Interesting construction on those originally. Welted but with an injection-molded sole instead of being glued/sewn to the welt. Now they’re more traditional!

@Brian the Bootmaker, would you consider making a video tutorial on stitching the welt to the boot and then the sole to the welt using an awl? Most of us don't have access to machines that can do this, so it would be really great to have some instruciton on how to do it by hand.
