As someone who watches a ridiculous amount of red wing and boot videos this video was very concise and well done. And Walter seems like the perfect person to give any of my business to since I'm nearby. glad I found this channel will be looking forward to more boot related videos.
I literally went to this store today and got my first pair from this guy and happened to stumble on this video looking up my boot. SUPER chill guy,had the patience to show me different options and sizes to make sure I was happy with my pair and even made small talk. Definitely gonna go back to him for a future pair.
What a coincidence! I’m so glad Walter was there and that you had such a positive experience 😁. That’s exactly what has kept me going back time and time again. Thank you for sharing it with me.
@@DenimDarlin you should maybe consider coming to Red Wing, MN. The town is really beautiful, and the store is large (includes the super large moc toe model). Just a thought 😊
What a great video! If more people saw this I’m positive they would give you a thumbs up! I learned a lot about the whole heel slip thing. This was informative so thank you.
Hi Cory! I am happy the video was helpful to you! Thank you so much for the positive feedback and for taking the time to watch it. I appreciate it very much!! :D
Enjoyed your video. It’s always fun when you can find a shop where the staff is knowledgeable and friendly. It’s great supporting smaller/family owned businesses. And yes I can agree, trying on a Red Wing is a slippery slope - you tend to end up buying. :)
I am in the Uk and just purchased my first Iron Rangers, Thanks fo this video, although my boots seem to fit good and are comfortable straight off I was concerned about some heel slip and you have answered my question about this. Thanks.
Hi! Congratulations on your Iron Rangers! What a great first pair. Thank you for letting me know. It makes me so happy that my video helped you. Take care!
Nice video! I just visited that place yesterday and meet Walter he’s such a nice guy, BTW I got a pair of 1907’s and a pair of IR 3365 for my wife as our anniversary just passed.
Denim Darlin, it was a day of coincidence (s)! I’ve been wanting a pair of iron ranger for awhile now. For my birthday my wife agreed to buy me a pair. We were also scheduled to have lunch with friends in Chinatown in the afternoon. To kill some time before leaving, I came upon your video on purchasing a pair from an expert. I immediately recognized the shoe shop in Los Angeles Chinatown. I was elated. After lunch, we went to the shop & met Mr Kim. We had a wonderful time & experience in talking with him. He’s 94 years young! He ran over 60 marathons and the last one was before the pandemic at Mt Whitney! Amazing. Yes, my wife purchased a pair of iron ranger for me. Walter came in as we were about to leave, & he too was most gracious. Highly recommend this place for your purchase: large selections, expert service & friendly atmosphere. I will go back again for another pair-in black-again. Btw, nice slevedge jeans. Thank you for posting this video.
Hi!! Happy belated Birthday 🥳🎂✨✨✨✨✨✨WOW!! What a great story!!! Mr. Kim truly is a gem and I’m glad you also met Walter! Such great human beings. You are going to LOVEEEE your Iron Rangers. They just get better and better with age. And you got a black pair? Thank you so much for stopping by to share your story. It made my day! Take care :)
@@DenimDarlin thank you, DD. It was a memorable birthday day, indeed. I was inspired by your video…much love. I got the 8111 - dark brown. After seeing your black purchase, i will definitely go back to Mr Kim’s shop to get a pair in black. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos. ✌🏼👖🥾
Thank you so much for the wonderful compliment, Dennis! I am so happy yo know you had such a great birthday. And YESSSS. The 8111 is a classic and MUST HAVE. Wow! 😍 You are going to love everything about them especially their transformation as they break in. The Black Harness will be a fun addition once the time comes. Thank you once again for your support. Take care!!
His dad is awesome I went in yesterday and u can't find shoe sales men like that anymore they didn't have my size but I did purchase the insoles yay thank u for sharing
Out of all of my boots, I would have to agree with you. The men’s Iron Rangers I have are my most comfortable. And just like you they fit me a tad roomy, so I added a thin leather Red Wing insole. That’s so awesome you were able to find the perfect fit for you by adding thicker socks!
Great down to earth/business video. Great inside. I’m red wing dude. In my judgement you it’s impassible to buy those boots on line. You have to try them in store only. I always try 2-3 pairs before I get right pair.
@@DenimDarlin I owe 1907 and IR. 1907 I use for work, IR as a casual. I don’t “collect” them, I use them. When IR gets a bit older I’ll also use them as a work boot.
Just an FYI, there is a major difference between an “authorized” Red Wings Store like this vs a Company owned store. Authorize stores does not oil your boots for free and/or replace you shoe laces for free. Like company owned stores. I went to this location to get free boot laces. And that’s when I found out the difference between the stores. I ended up going to the Culver City location.
The lasts fit different not because they are different styles, but because they range in arch support and your foot is longer when it is on a no or low arch support last, and shorter in the relaxed position in a medium - high arch support last.
I've always wanted some but I got used to buying custom hand made boots whites, wesco, olathe I love th ed arch support of my boots I am going to try some this next month see how they compare I know it wont be exactly the same but as long as they are comfortable
Wow! What a collection. I would be so curious to know your thoughts! I have one custom pair in the works, which I’m excited about, but other than that I truly enjoy my Red Wings.
HELLO!! 😁 I was just there in September. It was my lifelong dream, since I was born on St. Patrick’s Day, and I had the time of my life. Planning to go back for my birthday this upcoming year. The men’s regular Mocs cost $299.99 and $309.99 for the 1907 model.

Do you know what days Walter is in the shop? I want to drive down from Oxnard so he can personally size me. Unfortunately, I’m selling off most of my footwear, including Red Wings, because I’ve been sized wrong all my life. 😢
I’m sorry that happened to you. It’s so unfortunate how common being sized wrong is. Walter doesn’t have a set schedule at the shop. I usually call to see if he’s there day of or try catching him a few days before and asking when he’ll be there again to coordinate with him. This is the shop’s phone number: (213) 625-8246 I hope you’re able to make it!
I want to buy red wing iron ranger boots and i need your advice about size.I wear all my shoes and sneakers in us 9 (Dr. Martens, converse, nike, adidas, catterpilar, salomon). My foot length is 27 centimeters. Can you tell me which size fits me?People sizing down half or full size down?My foot is somewhere between a D width and an E width.I used the printed branock measurements and the foot length is somewhere around 10.5 which is 27 cm or European shoe size 42.Should I order US 8.5 or simply take them in my regular size US 9. I don't have the opportunity to try the boots on in the store. I plan to order them through a friend from Germany. That's why I need your help.Greetings from Serbia.
This one is tricky because I feel like Dr Marten and Converse run big and Nike and adidas run pretty true to the Asian lasts. Some converse run smaller because those come with removable insoles. Take your most popular size in Nikes and Adidas. IF US 9, I’d go with Red Wing Iron Ranger 8.5.
If you’re on the medium to narrow but more narrow than medium, I’d say stay true to an 8.5. But if you feel like your foot has more width to it the 9 will feel better.
@@DenimDarlin Good morning! The computerized ultimate fit where you walk over it says left foot 8.6A & right foot 8.1B. Brannock 8.5. Sounds like you’d definitely go with the 8.5? Thank you! My husband & I enjoy your channel & find it very helpful!
@neversurrender2337 Thank you so much for taking the time to watch my videos. Life happened and I temporarily paused, but I miss creating dearly and will come back to it! Thank you again.
Just sharing my experience w/ Red Wings. I went in to a Red Wing store for my 1st pair. I’m a size 10D in most sneakers. I was measure a 9.5D on a Brannock device and was recommended a 9.5D for my 1907 moc toes. They fit great in store w/ boot socks but after I racked up about 48hrs of wear, they were too big and the only thing keeping my foot in were the laces. About 2 yrs later I go back to the same store and share my experience w/ a different sales associate and he immediately said that he was the same size as myself,(9.5D on Brannock and wear a 10D sneaker). He told me I need to size down to an 8.5D. I tried an Iron Ranger and said it was way too tight and it was work getting my foot in. Then he insisted that I try on his own pair of Iron Rangers which I thought was strange but I went along. I had no trouble getting into the boot and it fit perfectly and was so comfortable. But he made his point that Red Wing boots run large and will stretch a lot. I picked up a pair of Blacksmith in 8.5D that day that fit perfectly after break in. So for me the lesson was size down 1 whole size from Brannock or 1.5 down from sneaker size.
Hi! Thank you for sharing your experience. My boyfriend’s is very similar to yours. Also 10 sneaker. Without going into a store and simply based off reviews we purchased his 1907’s in a size 9 D. To this day they fit him a touch big. We also found that his happy place is an 8.5 D. All of his RW’s are now a size 8.5 D and they fit him perfectly. I’m so glad you didn’t give up on the brand and tried again and found your RW size. I’m sorry you were sized wrong the first time.
@@jmoak311 - it was an expensive lesson. You’d think this would be common knowledge w/ ALL of the managers (each time I visited there was a different manager. No idea what that’s all about). Now when anyone says they got Red Wings in their sneaker size and they fit. I immediately think they are wearing boots that are too big and refuse to admit it to themselves. 😂
@@jmoak311 Red Wing stores should keep a broken in pair of each last size for 1st timers. I’d say only 10% of their sales associates know what they’re doing as far as making size. recommendations.
Hi! Thank you so much for watching 😁 Unfortunately, they do not. However, they can take your order and payment over the phone and ship directly to you.
You’re right! I should have thought of that detail when I made the video. But since I knew my correct size and was making it for educational purposes, I didn’t think of it. Good eye!
