This video was brought back to mind by a viewer recently who told me I was incorrect at stating the WRONG matrix sign was used on the M60. So after she saw this she informed me how these were meant to be read and why I was wrong in the original video. I claimed that the RED X sign is used on the wrong lane but this is why I was wrong. Anne tells me that the first RED X sign is used in the left lane first, this is to get the traffic to move over to the available 3 other lanes. The reason they don't put 2 lanes closed immediately is that this causes unnecessary congestion. Now when traffic has moved over from lane 1 they show both lanes 1 and 2 closed so that traffic will now filter to lanes 3 and 4. This is to provide a safe haven for the passengers of the stranded vehicle and easier access for any assistance vehicles either Police or recovery teams. This is how it was supposed to work but of course that means that drivers obey these signs but you can clearly see that they do not. Please don't ignore the RED X it is there for safety reasons even if, like me, you don't understand those reasons in the first place. Thank you to Anne for the information, who is a former control operator working on the motorway matrix system. Thank you for reading and watching.
