Redcat 61 WIFD: bit.ly/3pp76DQ
Hey everyone, this is a review of the new william optics WIFD Redcat 61. Another interesting telescope with a unique focuser design. This allows the focuser to not flex or tilt, and minimize vignetting. Which gives you also you the freedom to use a more inexpensive autofocuser. This little guy performed quite well in producing some images.
If you want to see the full size photograph you can find it on my astrobin page: www.astrobin.c...

Hope you enjoy the video!

Actually since you were using NINA, you could try out the three star polar align plug-in! It would enable you to polar align anywhere in the sky, without having need for a view of Polaris. Cheers from Singapore!

Very nice video Bray. I just received mine 2 days ago and can’t wait to test it. There is a simple fix to the focus lock issue if you really need to use it: simply rotate 180° the dovetail, or move it toward the back of the telescope. And WO even provides you with this nifty set of Allen keys to do it !

Hey Bray! Williams Optical has truly produced something special here! We need more innovation like this as astrophotography evolves. I love your setup, looks amazing! I have the HEM27EC and the encoder on RA really helps when imaging in LP skies so I am less reliant on guiding. Looks like you are enjoying your HEM27 as much as I am! I recently ventured into using mono, actually a QHY600M on a RASA 8, yep it works and the FOV is amazing. Hope I can create beautiful works like yours in the future 🙂 Thanks for the video and clear skies!

13:53 - star shapes are less than optimal. That flashses from brights ones are signal that collimation/cell isn't working well

Great review and nice image Bray. Re the Red Cat 51, Given that your set ups are automated, I don't see the problem with the helical focuser as there are plenty of auto focuser kits available for these but yeah, manual focusing can be a pain. As for the 61 it looks great but here in the UK it sells at around twice the price of a 51 which I think is a bit steep. The plus side of any Petzval scope is that a field flattener is unnecessary and I also believe you do not have to worry about back focus. I've seen the 61 classed as a beginners scope but at the price I'm not sure it is (for me the best beginners scope for DS Astro photography is the Samyang / Rokinon 135 f2 lens I just can't see better value for money).

Thanks for the review. I actually like the idea of using that kind of focuser. There's no need to buy an expensive focuser now that would hold a heavy camera weight well.

Just so you know, that was not an air glow band, but the effect from your images passing through a power line. If you look at your stars, you will see spikes from the power line.

Have two mirrors and though I could make up two telescopes mounted next to each other. Also want to hang this 4.5 inch refractor, f-5. Thought that could be a spotting scope. Also have a lot of arduino boards I use with projects and thought they could control stepper motors to move things around. Then your computer does it all and didn't have to write code. Well, I have a lot of electronics parts and assemblies. Very crafty also. Have lots of tools to make things.

You always have such nice DSLR shots of the eaths rotation/Milkyway sky. What camera do you use for this, and tracker? and what are your typical exposure numbers? Keep it up man your living the dream of millions

Are you still using the Redcat 61? Thinking about buying this scope, primarily for the new focuser. If you are still using it do you have any thoughts on the scope after using it for a year. Really enjoy your videos and channel.

Any reason to not prefer the gt71 with .8 reducer over this? ~30 more mm of focal length, ~.2 focal ratio faster and like $600 cheaper for same optics quality

Great video! So seems like its a bit heavy for backpacking. Are there any scopes that you would recommend in the 60mm - 80mm range that are in the 5-7 lb range? Oh and also, what were the specs on the time-lapse (camera, settings etc) as it is great as well! Thanks again for all of great work and insights! Chris
