The guy who talked about losing his reality actually sounds much more like he was suffering a brain tumor rather than schizophrenia. The mentions of head pain, memory loss, vision issues when reading and seeing blue spots are textbook examples of symptoms one may experience when suffering a tumor. Depersonalization and hallucinations are also common symptoms. This guy needed to have gone to a neurologist not a psychologist, but I’m unfortunately not very optimistic given these posts stopped updating almost 15 years ago. As a neurology student I’ve read way too many case studies of patients who believed their symptoms to be mental illnesses that they then were medicated for years, while their neurological conditions progress beyond being operability. It pains me that psychiatrists will have a patient experiencing hallucinations and not refer them to a neurologist before medicating them.

This is making me consider that I should consult a neurologist -- well, the neurologist that I have and check back in. I suffer from seizures, so I wonder if this is something caused in the aftermath of having so many. I relate to every single thing that guy had listed off, and have continued to deal with it.

I assume it's because the American health system is designed to monitise healthcare- they want to diagnose you quickly and easily so they can start selling you drugs. The DCM-5 for catagorising mental illness (the one used in America) had something like 60% of the people working on it with ties to pharmaceutical companies. If they refer you they lose money. That's not to say that the psychologists are evil but they are just not going to ever be encouraged or taught to do something like that. That's why I really think health care should be free worldwide Also- I heard a story about someone with a brain tumour who basically the brain tumour made him into a pedophile- he always was one, but he held back his urges, but the brain tumour growing in his frontal lobe impaired his impulse control basically so he ended up being convicted, and I think it happened twice to him- perfectly fine family man then all of a sudden brain tumour and he became a pedo. So it's possible that something similar happened to that guy, where is somehow impaired his emotional responses and caused him to feel disconnected. Sounds like he was snapping out at people so, possibly he just stopped caring and starting murdering.

the fact bryan was posting all of that 12 years before murdering those kids is scarier than the posts themselves. that man was walking around with an echo chamber of those (the things he posts) thoughts running rampant for 12 years. never asked for help, never tried to change. then just snapped. terrifying to think that someone you work with or someone you pass on the street could be going thru the exact same thing & no one would ever know. im an idahoan, so that case hits home for sure.

In a way, the post where he describes his depersonalization and depression is itself a cry for help, just not an obvious one. It’s a scary thing to stumble across, and most people won’t want to interact with that. I wonder if things might have been different if someone had been able to recognize it for what it was and reach out to him back then.

This also hits home for me too. I was right near the campus when news of homicides happened. It was so weird and eery after that. I remember feeling hollow and afraid. I knew I was in the same building as him at times. It’s even worse knowing that some people faced him multiple days a week after he committed those atrocities. This case is so fresh- it’s one that I actually was close to. I’ll never forget my feelings from those days.

The sleeping one hits home-she might have idiopathic hypersomnia which is a rare sleep disorder similar to narcolepsy. I used to sleep tons once I hit my mid 20’s and now I can only function due to an adderall type prescription. Really feel for her and the boyfriend. Downside to getting a sleep diagnosis is that it’s super expensive to do the tests. Really hope she gets the help she needs despite the breakup :( feel bad for OP

Yup. My diagnosis was changed from Idiopathic Hypersomnia to Narcolepsy Type 2. I definitely think you hit the nail on the head. An overnight Polysomnogram followed by a Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT) should be able to determine whether the OP's girlfriend has either.

@@TheSlipperyNUwUdlei have depression and i do really sleep a lot and its still less than her and im not saying everyones the same as me but op said she would fall asleep when she didnt even plan on doing it which is crazy bc if u already sleep most of the day u wouldnt be tired enough to fall asleep accidentally so i feel like its not a mental health thing like theres something else and i think op should be worried for his gf and not be annoyed since it seems like she cant even control it .. edit: guys im tired 24/7 i genuinely could sleep the whole day if my body didnt hurt from lying all day so maybe i lied maybe it could be a mental health thing or maybe im dying and i dont know 🤗

I had this stint of a thyroid issue and would sleep the majority of the day. I would only wake up to go to work and shower or eat. Even doing that I had to power through with some unhelpful energy drinks. I remember napping during my breaks to try to get some energy. Sleeping was nice, but it became very obvious to my family that there was an issue. Luckily, I took the standard medicine for a month, maybe more or less im not too sure, and I haven't had a stint since. Odd how it was only once and never again though.

That part about disassociation is so real. I don’t feel like I’m always playing Oblivion, lol, but working your young adult years away often feels like you have “dirt in your brain.” It’s like I’m walking through a hazy dream and nothing really matters. I could dip my hand in the damn fryer at work and I’d probably blink a few times before thinking “that was a bad idea.” Im tired, and I know it’s gonna be like this until I die. I hate this.

this. i still find lots of joy in life but im so sick of being in a constant fog and feeling like im not fully experiencing things. the worst part is i’ve done it to myself by not listening to anyone and experimenting with drugs before my brain developed, and now im struggling with a weed/tobacco addiction which just pushes the derealization further and makes it worse.

Derealization is a scary shit. i had a phase(about a month) that i felt like nothing was real. I was in school "hearing" my teacher but just not understand ing anything. Its like all my memories are gone, like im nobody. Its hard for to explain but im happy that im not the only one... The only thing that helped me was looking at my baby pictures and remembering memories

It can also rocketlaunch a psychosis that was deeply buried in you that can get triggered that maybe without it never would come to the surface. Weed isnt for everyone and even when i smoked myself for 7 years or something, it pisses me off a little how harmless most ppl tend to portray it. Weeed can be harmless for people yes, some can do it their whole life without problems but i think the mind trip can be insane when you are too high lmao, as harmless example you could take the paranoia a lot of ppl get when they high in public, you think everybody knows and depending what you doing, maybe they do know but who cares tbh if its not someone you need to hide it then fck it. i remember getting that depersonalisation thing aswell sometimes at the end and what helped me was to not overthink it and it got better after i quit. One of my friends from middle and high school killed an old lady a few months ago. We were pretty close in middle school since we were in choir together. He was in the choir I co-directed in high school too (I was the student director). After middle school he got into some bad stuff and it was heartbreaking to watch him spiral, nothing helped him and he got expelled. Then one day I wake up to news that he had killed someone. That was a sobering day for me, but as teenagers are everyone else thought it was funny…

@@shannond1511 I’m of a firm belief that everything can be funny, usually in a commentary sense, but to make jokes about a boy who had just hit rock bottom and an elderly lady who had lost her life was just heartbreaking. The adults even participated in it, and it just proved further to me that it’s important we have people like Tuv to present this information without personal bias and with facts rather than just making fun of people’s misfortune or twisting everything

@tuv I knew Bryan Kohberger personally...Ive had the dude in my house, my car, etc. I was great friends with him and his sister. I cannot tell you how jarring and terrifying it is to see someone from my podunk town all over the internet for the reason he is. He was always a sad, disturbed kid. I can't say I dont feel some sort of guilt for not doing more when I knew him when I saw those red flags. I tried helping him and being there for him, I can't tell you how many talks we had in my car about life when he was like 20 years old and I was 21....but eventually he just isolated himself from all of his friends, only for us to find this out years later. i definitely recommend consulting a psychologist if you are experiencing certain of these symptoms, they can help you figure out what exactly it is you’re dealing with ! i cant imagine how hard it must be for you on a daily basis, especially if you keep how you’re feeling to yourself. personally, my ocd got so bad that at a point in my life i started dissociating to cope with the anxiety it was causing me, it was a terrifying experience but it led me to finally get help after years of not wanting to. therapy helped me a lot but in my case bc it was ocd i had to get on medication and im doing a billion times better now ! im telling you all this to encourage you to reach out for help bc i truly believe it could be helpful but obvs your experience might be different from mine. best of luck !

For the 28:00 one, it sounds a lot like hypothyroidism. I suffer from this because of a thyroidectomy and it made me sleep tons. I’d pass out against my will a lot, fall asleep whenever (on my chair, cuddling w my gf, etc) I’d sleep over half the day most days and have sudden nosebleeds idk why but yeah just wanted to share

The murder of Nichole Cable is something crazy for us here in Maine. It's a bit more common now, but murder was very rare 10 years ago, let alone a young girl getting murdered. It really changed a lot of communities here in Maine to be more protective of teens when it came to using the internet.

the gf with sleeping problems sounds like a combination of narcolepsy and some underlying neurological and/or mental health issues. i feel so bad for both op and the gf. on one hand, the gf is physically and mentally suffering, whether she's aware of it or not. she's failing to take care of herself and her cat. on the other, op is obviously emotionally exhausted from taking on all the duties of a two person household by yourself while your partner sleeps all day, not to mention the distress and worry that comes with seeing your partner obviously in poor health and feeling ignored in your relationship. it's not cool for the gf to try to blame op for his reasonable emotions or call him controlling for simply trying to get her help, and i wouldn't be surprised if her behavior was in part due to whatever health issues caused the sleeping. i hope both of them get the help they need and can move on from this.

I related to the third one. When I was super depressed I felt that way all the time. Never knowing what was real or not. I felt like I was dreaming or like everything was underwater. It wasn't until I got help that I realized a lot of that these people who were my friends weren't actually real. I made them up In my head and I didn't even know.

Regarding the sleeping gf story- i totally side with and agree with and feel for the boyfriend/OP. He was absolutely valid for how he felt, and breaking up was definitely the right move. It's selfish to think that you can behave in any way you feel like and not working on your problems/issues, and cause ur partner to feel so shitty, and then call them awful for leaving or setting boundaries. I hope he finds someone who will put the same amount of effort into the relationship as he does.

The amputation cannibalism story is interesting. I was able to take my wisdom teeth home with me after getting them removed and even then, the doc's assistants kind of looked at me weird and asked me what I was going to do with them.
