On Saturday, March 19, 2011, local, state, federal, and Amtrak officials joined Vice President Joe Biden to celebrate the completion of restoration work at the historic Wilmington Train Station. During the ceremony, Amtrak officials officially announced that the station was being rededicated as the "Joseph R. Biden, Jr., Railroad Station." The building, originally designed by well-known architect Frank Furness, was constructed in 1907 and was the center of a three-year restoration by Amtrak.
