If nothing else-this documentary did two things few others do 1.It showed dinosaurs having goofy moments, even if a bit cartoony at times, but it did help present dinosaurs more as animals than as mere monsters. 2.It had very, very colorful dinosaurs, which is also often underrepresented, despite most creatures in nature having deep, saturated and sometimes even bright colors. This too is truer for archosaurs and lepidosaurs than for mammals, thus further implying dinosaurs are colorful.
Exactly, and modern wild animals can be quite goofy even without human intervention. They can get spooked by their own shadows, put their nose where it doesn't belong and get bit or stung by something that is ultimately harmless, and they get stoned and drunk more often than we think, some even do it on purpose. Nature is quite harsh but not behaving like a perfect machine isn't an automatic death sentence.
The reason why Dinosaur Revolution is so goofy and cartoony is because originally it was going to be a series of stories with dinosaurs in the vein of Ricardo Delgado's Age of Reptiles comic, with less focus on science and more emphasis in creating fun stories with dinosaurs as the protagonists. However Discovery decided later to make it more scientifically oriented like Walking with Dinosaurs and by that point most of the stories were already done, so they had to mix the more cartoony elements with the scientific ones, hence why the series can be so jarring at times. Still a great documentary and really ahead of its time.
10:27 plus in the show, broken jaw is meant to be an individual that really struggles to hunt in the usual way so it makes sense he'd appear much more skinny.
There are plenty of rarely mentioned creatures too in this series like dinheorosaurus and many others which likely are their only appearance in popular culture
STUMPY MUH BOI ❤️ Dinosaur revolution is what truly sparked my love for dinosaurs Dinosaur train got me into them but revolution sparked the absolute love i have for them so I’m really happy to see this video
I remember watching full episodes of Dinosaur Revolution on RU-vid, back when the copyright T.O.S was more lax and you could get away with uploading entire seasons of a show without getting in trouble. Sometimes I yearn for those days again, being a kid perusing the RU-vid homepage on my parents' desktop.
@@Bagelgeuse Yep, I remember watching SMOSH and laughing at the Pokemon In Real Life skits, as well as watching list videos by Danger Dolan and WatchMojo, then jamming out to some Kidz Bop music videos.
I really love the dinosaur revolution colors. That’s my favorite part about the show, especially with its iconic Tyrannosaurus rex, especially Jack and stumpy even though we didn’t see other tyrannosaurs that looked different however, we all do know the tyrannosaurus have well skull like faced well for the males. All the females have a visible skull like pattering but still it’s an easy way to tell a part for the males and I got to see a Skull like face is one of the best ways to go with a T Rex not to make it look scary in stages to make it look cool or interesting and unique. For some reason I’m having a bit of a tie between who is my favorite type of tyrannosaur model I can’t be if I want to choose dinosaur revolution or primal carnage
Great work on redesigning on the dinosaur characters in Dinosaur Revolution and they look amazing and beautiful in in the same time. Can’t wait to see more of the redesigning of the dinosaur characters in the future and as always, great work and keep it up.
Damn, nice art. I like your style. Personally, Dinosaur Revolution was always a favorite of mine. I'm not nearly as fond of it now as I was before, but it still holds up relatively well.
I wished there was more episodes to Dinosaur Revolution. I remember painting a rock in school to look like a allosaur from this series. My school even showed the 4th episode to watch duribg a pajama party.
This is a lovely project you have here and it deserve more appreciation. I for one like that you gave the Rex more meat on its bone. IDK why for the longest time we thought T.Rexes weighed so little but them being porkier helps distinguish them more. I recall WWD's T.Rex to be only 5 tons.
NGL I loved this doc- it's fun, it's colorful, and it basically just tells stories using dinosaurs. I still enjoy the designs even though obviously they needed more chonk. Love the redesigns with that. While I grew up with the shrinkwrapping, the thiccening of dinosaurs is pretty awesome aesthetically.
It’s a great tv show. I remember watching this show when I was four years old. This hits the nostalgia. The art is amazing. I love it. Makes me learn more about this style of art.
Not often that I'll subscribe to a channel after just one video, but this is an exception. Though I never watched Dinosaur Revolution, the video that you mentioned at the start fascinated me as a kid (especially Broken Jaw, who will always be my favourite fictional dinosaur). Anyways, your redesigns are sick, keep up the good work :)
Bro I want someone to do an edit of the full episodes of Dinosaur revolution but just with the cartoon sound effects. Also I really like the touch of the small dorsal fin on the mosasaur. Obviously a bit speculative, but I think it looks really cool.
I remember watching and rewatching the T. rex fight from the “Best of dinosaurs” vid at the library computer while visiting my grandma. lol that was such a damn good design and fight it never gets old
I feel like the goofiness of the documentary is there to make it more accessible to kids. So it allows kids to learn while being entertained. I didn't really mind it that much.
This is my first time hearing about Dinosaur Revolution, and I've gotta say I love the edgelord skull-faced dino. It's like the Casey Jones of dinosaurs.
9:54 i love how you add small dorsal fin on the Tylosaurus. So far there are no solid proof of dorsal fin on Mosasaurs. But considering how highly adapted mosasaur to aquatic life, i'm sure they had dorsal fin, at least in some species.
Amazing art! The colors are just phenomenal and the anatomy is mostly correct, especially with the Rex. But I do think that the utahraptors head is a bit too boxy, you can make the snout a bit longer to it looks like it’s proportionate to the body.
When 65 is released on streaming and home video, you should redesign the dinosaurs in that movie. Not the quadrupedal theropod though because it isn't based on any real dinosaur in particular.
The one problem I had with Prehistoric Planet's creature designs was that the mosasaurs had very visible teeth compared to other lizards with similarly sized teeth, especially varanids. Cool to see a depiction with the virtually invisible teeth that they likely actually had!
In case you cover Dinosaur King, how will you approach each of the elements each dino is placed in? Also, my second day I'm asking for you to talk about dino zords.
I've noticed that Tylosaurus often goes uncredited in documentaries, this one, Chased by Sea Monsters and Monsters Resurrected, even if in the latter two appearances, we see it in the context of the Niobrara ecosystem and all the animals get properly named.
Dinosaur Revolution was the first dino media i saw where the dinosaurs have proper AND interesting feathering, everything i saw before that either had exclusively scaly dinosaurs or they looked ugly as hell. And as we all know at this point, it wasn't supposed to be an ACTUAL documentary, which is why those comic moments felt so out of place and why the designs varied so much between individuals of the same species, it would be like if we removed all the dialogue in Disney's Dinosaur and edited it to sound like a documentary. And honestly, despite that, it still had quite a lot of moments with the characters behaving like proper and flawed animals, rather than being portrayed as perfect machines that get put out of commission if they make the smallest mistake.
Now this was awesome and beautiful imagine if they redid these documentary but with just new design. and Fun Fact about Jack he actually has a neck defect in his vertebrae and if you listen closely to the scenes he appears in you can hear him crack his neck sometimes. Just wanted to share that lol
@@ichthyovenator3351yea it's pretty cool I found that out a 2-3 years ago and I'm ngl I thought The Torvosaurus was a female allo I was pretty............ Not really informative at the time lol
You are very good at traditional drawing! I only wish you had bigger and better supports to work with so your illustrations could show full body dinos. Great job anyway
Dinosaur revolution but more accurate is my dream, it's like prehistoric planet but more nostalgic But yes I really like this video, so hope you have a great day Also is my childhood dino documentary and YES the intro is amazing
Your Utahraptor design looks like it could kill the Indoraptor with little difficulty. A far better Tylosaurus than the one from 'Monsters Resurrected'. And your take on 'Stumpy' seems ready for a 'Prehistoric Planet' segment.
I like your redesigns for the dinosaurs in Dinosaur Revolution. Do you have any plans to redesign other dinosaurs from pop culture, cause I have a few suggestions. You can try Jurassic Park, The Land Before Time, Walking with Dinosaurs, just to name a few.
