I'm not totally sold on Diona - I think the redesign is equally as adorable as the canon design but it doesn't scream bartender to me either? It's giving more magical girl and I don't think she looks like she's from Mondstadt. Also the critique of Diona not having any blue is too funny what with Charlotte, Wriothesley, Freminet and Roasria all existing and being very much not blue lol.
same. she is so much better without the blue. its not like having to wear your visions color is a set rule.. kazuha doesnt have an inch of green on him
@@3daniku 100%, and to add onto your points here's all the characters that don't have the vision colours; Anemo(Teal) - Heizou, Sayu, Kazuha (arguments could be made for Sucrose and Venti being more blue and green than teal) Pyro - Diluc(I don't accept his hair) but a lot of them are 90% black or another colour with the smidge of red accents Electro(purple) - Razor, Beidou, Kujo, Yae Miko Cryo(Light blue) - Kaeya, Qiqi, Diona, Ganyu(purple hues), Roasria, Shenhe, Freminet, Wriothesley and Charlotte Hydro(blue) - Barbara, Childe, Kokomi(colour wise), Ayato, Candace Dendro(Green) - Tighnari, Alhaitham, Kaveh, Baizhu and Kirara Geo(Yellow) - Noelle, Gorou, Itto, Yun Jin Basically to say, some elements stick to having accent colours as the elements but A LOT of characters stray from the element colour. And even as I was making the list I was like "is that even enough ___ to be considered ok?"
hii! love the designs, but in raiden's, the sleeves are two different lengths because ei had the short sleeves and makoto had longer ones. her current design is meant to have both her and her sister within it.
I really hate his design with a passion. Out of all the older characters his is the worst. I just hate his brown jacket sweater whatever with his bright red hair. Idk I tried to like it but I just couldn’t, same problem with zhongli but not as bad
@@2triedforthis830 real. diluc's design is just so weird. the hair stands out too much and looks bad. Zhongli's looks more, boring ig. its all the same colors, which is fine, but maybe like add more, especially since he's an archon.
i'm really happy that you drew raiden with a thicker body type! i've always kind of imagined her that way, i don't really know why, but i think it fits her character.

Yeah, I feel like she is more of a power woman. So I can kind of imagine her a bit more buff and curvy than other characters. But… I do see why genshin decided to keep her slim, is because they want to keep her more elegant but with her design and character story powerful. But anyways, every female mommy looks like they have the same body type to yeah…
I love these redesigns and your ideas! A note for future designs, the sash worn by Raiden is an obi, and they are very stiff! So they wouldnt really bend to her body shape like that ^^;; I love what you did with her stockings btw!
Great video! Just one thing, Raidens sleaves, one is short and one is long in the game and there's an explanation for this. Makoto had long sleaves and when she died while Raiden had short sleaves, she kept one short sleave for herself and one long sleave for her sister, Makoto, and it's supposed to have both her and her sister in her design. Anyways, the redesigns were amazingly done as always i just wanted to point this thing out.
I love the redesigns but I also kinda wish you kept Raiden’s sleeves since the reason why they’re not the same in the first place is because one side is supposed to represent Makoto (the long sleeved side) as she wasn’t a warrior and therefore had them for traditional/ aesthetic purposes while the other side is for Ei as she needed to keep them shorter for easier movement during combat.

I know no ages are canon but I feel like Diona is around 11-12, if you've done her hangout events you'll know she tries to act more adult but it comes off more as those kids who grew up too fast, which makes sense considering her story. I feel like klee is probably around the same age but is just less mature - I knew multiple girls at 10-12 y.o who acted exactly like klee did. sayu is actually older tho, she's just rlly short, but she's always mentioned as a "young woman". I think she's probably like 15-17.
I love how Raidens armor kind of looks like the Scaramouche boss with the dark base and the red and gold accents especially looking at raidens history with scaramouche! great designs!
The designs were really cute! Raiden Shogun kinda looked a little wonky in my opinion because you made her body chunky but her head was small so it looked weird, other than that they look good!

Sth that i find interesting about raiden is that, even tho i think shes one of the prettiest charackters in the game (her hair os legit eevrything to me) i kinda found it sad that she didnt have more armour? Like she looks great, but since shes supposed to be a warrior i kinda expected more armour, so i love ur design idea :D
Honestly, i’m not a fan of the Raiden design. So much of her outfit is tied to Makoto like for example,the more pastel colors, the long flowing sleeve on her right, the lack of armor on her right, the flower in her hair, all of this belonged to Makoto and not Ei. The current design is a combination of Ei and Makoto’s outfits with more Makoto than Ei which makes sense considering the people of Inazuma don’t know about the archon change and ,while they both ruled, Makoto was officially the archon so makes sense that Raiden would resemble Makoto more than Ei. edit: Also, she doesn’t really need armor considering Ei lives in the plane of Euthymia while the Raiden Shogun it a puppet that can be rebuilt or changed

I personally think her dress fits her, Kitsunes are said to be seductive and mischievous. Thought yeah, I find it to be overtly sexy as well. Especially when the front skirt is very short.

Fun fact about Ei's Sleeves!! One of her sleeves is her original sleeve before the archon war and the other is the way her sisters was before she passed! I just randomly though about this when you were talking about her sleeves....

When you teased this video on the ddlc redesign I wasn't really interested because I never played Genshin. Now I do and I'm OBSESSED with the character designs so I think your timing is more than perfect! I'd hope you'd make a redesign of Baizhu, as much as I love that man the colors ain't it.
I adore how these came out!! I so wish Diona looked like your redesign, I would've defineitly leveled her to 80 if that were the case lol (Shes currently suffering at lvl 50... or was it 60-?) I honestly nearly callopsed hearing you don't really care for the color purple :'D Raiden quickly became one of my favorite characters and I use her second most to my main Kazuha hehe
A big issue I personally have with Genshin Impact designs is that I feel like a lot of the details don't blend together in an easy to remember way. I think a great comparison is Dimitri from Fire Emblem and Dainslef, two characters who look very similar. When I try to imagine Dimitri in my head, I think of his eye patch, overgrown blond hair, fur cloak and black armour. When I try to imagine the details coming together, I remember how his armour has a blue cross over the chest and how his fur coat has black, white and blue layers. His design shows a lot of technical detail with the parts of the armour, but overall the actual features are quite simple. Dainslef though? Weeah. He also has blond hair of a similar length and an eye covering, and his outfit is black with a split cape, but when I think of the other details I'm kind of lost. I know there's some gold and hints of blue but I don't know where it all goes and I'm kept confused as to how the elements interact with each other. Now this isn't to say I think all Fire Emblem designs are good and Genshin designs are bad. I definitely feel physical pain looking at the Engage designs and there are some great Genshin character designs. But what I'm trying to bring across is there's so much detail that doesn't blend together well and it's hard to remember. I'm not saying that details can't be utilized on a design, but when so many secondary elenents are present it can be overwhelming. I think Lumine is probably the best designed character in terms of clarity and readability. The details on her are fairy light embroidery and the gold elements aren't too overwhelming. It's gotten to the point where I just see a blond ponytail and a knee-length white dress and immediately think of her. It's a complex render but the details are simple enough to be recognised. A really good video here on RU-vid is Ross Draws's character design tutorial where he states that even for his complex detailed artstyle, it's a great idea to have a child or a non-artist try to draw your character from memory to see how well the elements integrate and how much clarity you've portrayed. And I feel so bad for any kid who's obsessed with Genshin and trying to draw the characters from memory because they're probably clutching ten different pens trying to remember what colour a character's shoulder is meanwhile the kid across from them is willing up a recognisable sailor moon in a minute.
i would honestly love to see you redesign Childe! he's one of my favorite characters and his design just..it's so plain. and boring. and not what I would expect from a hydro wielder AND a Fatui harbinger. i think you did a great job of making the raiden Shogun more intimidating and it'd be great to see something like that for childe
love how you stayed close to the original designs. The characters are still very recognizable, and even tho i love watching re-imagining or re-designing videos, i sometimes feel like the design is completely different and you wouldnt recognize the character if the ychanged it in canon (obv wouldnt happen but ya hopefully know what i mean)
These redesigns are really good. I think you really did a good job designing Diona. Her clothes definitely captured more of her occupation, while still seeming personal to Diona
I don't really follow Genshin Impact, largely because I'm not really that interested in that type of game, but I do like your artwork and it's fun seeing you create from something you love. :) I will say, seeing the examples of the short character models, I agree that the proportions are Off. I think they were trying for a 'chibi' adjacent style to have the option for cute, child-ish characters, and it ends up balancing on an uncanny valley of "Is this an adult? Is this a child? This doesn't feel right." Probably the easiest fix would be to square off the head shape and shrink the head a smidge overall, it would feel a lot more balanced and a lot less uncanny.
I feel like the character that needs a redesign the most is Nahida. She’s cute and all but she has 0 (zero!) cultural inspirations on her design. She looks like a little european fairy while she’s supposed to represent Sumeru which is hugely inspired by SWANA cultures
Honestly I both agree and disagree at the same time. I'd like to see Nahida in SWANA inspired design, but I feel like it doesn't fit the character's story? Cus she's basically been locked up and never been outside the Sanctuary of Sursthana. So I feel like being disconnected from Sumeru's culture makes sense.
@@antiquefighter1868 Raiden locked herself away and was arguably more disconnected from her country because at least Nahida put the effort to look after her country and people through dreams, and yet she still looks clearly Japanese inspired. If they could do it for Raiden, why not Nahida? Plus she’s meant to represent Sumeru as its deity, there’s no reason why her design should look that disconnected from the culture. At least they could’ve put her in clothes that look inspired by the cultures they took inspiration from (imo her clothes are the biggest disconnect from the rest of the region). It’s easy to wave it away as “not important” or “not befitting of the character’s story” if you’re not from those cultures because you won’t care about seeing them well represented. And forgive me for saying this but the argument that it makes sense because she was locked away is nonsensical to me, because her being locked away has nothing to do with her appearance. She was like that before the sages found her and her story would not have changed at all if she looked more SWANA inspired. If anything, her looking more in tune with Sumeru would have strengthened her story rather than detracted from it, seeing how the whole point of the story is that the sages were keeping their country from flourishing. I am from that area and while as a whole I think they did a great job with Sumeru (especially the music) and it’s my favorite region, Nahida’s design is still a bit disappointing to me despite me loving her as a character.
I’m not completely with raiders redesign, simply cuz I think she’d be lean and muscular from fighting, but otheriwise I love it!!! And body positivity makes me want to combust /pos 🎉
genshin character designs tend to be a bit of a mixed bag for me. the characters have really great ouffits across the board and their colour schemes are consistently a treat. even colours i don't like. ... but man, the proportions always look so cutesy, soft, young, and skinny. even characters like raiden look a little too soft for me. i always like seeing fan artists with different styles try a hand at redesigning and i think you did well! i will ALWAYS imagine raiden with a lil beef!
I’m not sure about the armor for Raiden as she legit put a doll of herself and locked herself in a room. Also it’s kinda funny imagining her cooped up in a dark room eating anything sugary while wearing armor 💀. Honestly I think it’s just my biases I don’t really like armor (Sorry Gepard). It’s kinda regal but if there’s a fight you’re half prepared. I don’t imagine her as a more Beidou type character because we all agree that that design is incredibly similar to Beidou.
Fun fact, im pretty sure most kimonos tend to not show the chest as much(womens kimonos) , they cover the chestwayy more (dont fully trust this though , found it on pintrest!) , but raiden isnt wearing a traditional kimono(it seems) cause even her original design shows nore than traditional kimonos ive seen!(design is still pretty!!)

I have that exact model of Gaomon tablet, and aside from the colors being kinda wack (at least for me, idk how to fix it) and ALL the wires, i love the tablet so much and it works so well.
The draping parts on the shogun's kimono is something that i noticed is just part of inazumain style clothes along with the bows made of rope. Just wanted to say this, nothing more :)

For diona she’s not just a bartender, she’s also an adventurer which is why she looks like a Girl Scout. Your design is nice but her original design is definitely better And your raiden design I really don’t like, she’s supposed to have one sleeve as a nod to her sister makoto, since she wore two short sleeves and makoto wore two long sleeves. I also don’t like how you made the kimono look a lot less like a traditional japanese kimono, since inazuma is supposed to be based on japan that includes raiden, the armour makes it difficult to see the kimono part…. Also the material on the bows in the original design are a traditional accessory which are twisted to look like that, and I think it was a bad decision to remove them Another thing: the sash looking thing worn by raiden is an obi, which are very stiff and wouldn’t bend to her body shape like in your design The art is good but it’d be better if you paid more attention to original design and character’s purpose…
I love Raidens design, in the game and how you made her. I personally believe both of them are just gorgeous characters. I dont know why but I just love the color palate of Raiden and her outfit designs so I guess im a lil bias-
As a HUDGE diona fan/ main I loved dionas look. I think everyone can generally agree she does need to look more like a bartender besides her shaker on the back. I loved the hints of blue that you did along with her proportions. The design definitely fits her feisty personality along with her bartender look. This is honestly my favorite outfit redue of diona out of all the ones I've seen (I've seen a lot). And then of course any Raiden redesign I see is always stunning.
is it just me that is a female and really disagrees with disliking female character designs because theyre more revealing and especially when its based off a culture? like bro, its based on the culture, but it isnt the culture, its supposed to be slightly unique in its own way, if i wanted to see that culture unchanged i would watch a documentary not play genshin impact. the way i see it, fictional characters are a fun way to make traditional outfits more slay and thats so fun to me. i understand this may not be everyones thing, but to see people think of it just as "for the male gaze" is sad to me. granted if it completely doesnt suit the character and/ or its done in an extremely fanservicey way, then thats a turn off, but genshin doesnt go that far anyway.

I love that you made raiden a bit thicker! I am a bit confused with the proportions though since you made the body thicker but kept the head the same, I think it would be more accurate if her head was a bit bigger and more accurate to a thicker body type. Overall you did amasing and I love the designs you came up with!
Have the exact same opinions on Raiden's design! She's my favorite too, and I love her color scheme and kimono patterns, but... Yeah. I tendo to draw her either straight up wearing samurai armor or ceremonial/royal kimonos more true to the real stuff, while still retaining her colors and characteristics. And yeah, also the body type - you and I shaking hands on the muscular and more body fat Raiden, and I love it! I really like how they turned out ❤️ Funny enough, my other favorite in the game is Yanfei, and I draw her wearing actual suits, like a lawyer would, all the time :P
its not a bad video, but its always just such a disappointment when ppl change Raidens design and kill the asymmetry and/or all parts that are actually references to Makoto. Raiden finding the balance between her and Makoto's concept of eternity is reason why she is asymmetric. It just leaves a bad taste, because it implies that the redesign was done, without even trying to understand what story the old design is trying to tell.
Yea.. i'm not the biggest fans of genshin redesigns myself because every character design has its own story (that's usually ignored in redesigns), i mean, Diona doesn't even look like she's from mondstadt either now, i'm also personally not a fan of the tights she has (don't get me wrong, i completely agree about some cover up since this is a child character depiction, but i feel like the tights are just way out of place?) That said i know this is for fun and for that it looks great, no hate to the artist! I myself have made a few redesigns i'd consider "bad" and unfaithful, it's a guilty pleasure of mine lol
