Redfish are a fish that are tough on flies, so a redfish fly should be very durable. The redfish crack is an all synthetic take on the redfish slider, so it’s much more durable. This fly can withstand a pounding and still comes up looking great! And the fish love them. In fact, my friend Paul from the RU-vid channel killer fuzz uses these in a smaller size to catch sunfish. Also I’ve used them for other saltwater species like speckled trout, and flounder. They fish a lot like a jigged fluke if you ever fish conventionally. And if so, you would know the soft plastic fluke is definitely a fish catcher!
I was told a guy by the name of Andy Packmore is the inventor of this fly. He sure made a good pattern!

McFly- Captain Scott Null is the inventor of this fly and did an article on it in Texas Saltwater Fishing magazine several years ago. Scott guides out of Port O’Conner, TX.

Hey thanks! Yeah I’ve been posting most every week for the last 6 months... are they not showing up in your feed? Would be good to know if not, so I can fix how these are posted in hopes youtube actually promotes them.

Got my fly rod from risin in the mail today. It's pretty. But I was a goof and forgot to buy backing and a leader so have to wait for it to come.
@McFlyAngler
@McFlyAngler 4 года назад
Oh haha! Yeah their backing is a good price, but unfortunate you have to wait again. Sorry to hear that. Glad you got it though, when you get to cast it let me know what you think. It is a moderate action rod, so keep that in mind with your casts. Slow down the cast a bit, and it will treat you very good. I used it a couple days ago on a small Creak and it was so accurate! Love this type of action!

Thanks! Yeah absolutely! It’s good for a lot of saltwater fish. Dude, Paul from killer fuzz says he uses these for Rios, a freshwater fish in Texas creeks. Of course he ties them small...

Cool, yeah just a common simple dubbing spinner. You should be able to get it at any fly shop. If you can’t at your local fly shop, ask www.Dooleysflyfishing.com for one. They are an online fly shop that will have whatever you need.

Did you come across this article about the origins of the pattern? www.texassaltwaterfishingmagazine.com/fishing/by-type/fly-fishing/introducing-redfish-crack In Mississippi and Louisiana I have done well with an all black or purple and black version for reds and an all white version for specks.

It's looks like a more dressed up lefty's y2k shrimp.
@McFlyAngler
@McFlyAngler 4 года назад
Yeh you could say it “looks” like it. But it is tied way different. As with any pattern, there are only a handful of original patterns, then new ones are variations of the original few. Sometimes they use different materials or different ways of tying it. In a way, many people would say anything with dumbbell eyes on it looks like a Clouser minnow. That y2k shrimp is a good pattern also! Very easy to tie. Not quite as durable as this though but who cares cause you can tie them so quick. Lol
