Beautiful reminiscing of youth and the time just before it was all taken away. I'm still young, but the meaning of this video couldn't feel more relevant. The depths of emotion invoked in me by this video (and song) couldn't possibly be overstated. Beautifully done
@ xcvb6 - I live in Redford, and your description is pretty much right on the money; that's a fair description of Redford. But for someone who's maybe never been to that particular blue collar suburban dot on the map, I can see how the song could inspire these scenes. "Melancholy," as you said. The track lends itself well to different interpretations, especially since there are no lyrics.
I've heard this in a film before...I can't recall which one though...anyway, terrific job to Sufjan with this song, it touches my soul, and to duncfg, keep up the solid photography work, I'm impressed
Though I've been a fan of Sufjan for quite awhile, I've never listened to MI in its entirety (something I've got to remedy one of these days). I had no idea there was a song called "Redford" on this album! I remember thinking it was so cool that there was a Romulus song (which is a great one) and I think I actually thought, "Of course there wouldn't be a song about REDFORD; there's nothing special about here!" Also occurs to me to wonder how many Sufjan fans there could be, in Redford.
