In our quest for seeking out a more healthy and sustainable lifestyle, we made a plan that includes zero waste living, tiny home living and full-time travel. We considered buying an RV, looked at trailers and airstreams but settled on doing a bus conversion for our off the grid, tiny house on wheels. We bought a 1996 MCI 102 D3 coach bus and with the Bus Demolition and Interior Shell complete, now we turn it into our Tiny Home on Wheels!
Watch Season 2: Bus Demolition series here: • Bus Demolition - Rehab...
Watch Season 3: Bus Build series here: • The Bus Build - Rehabi...
In its previous life, our MCI bus was used as a school bus, although we don't think we can legitimately call it a skoolie. We are confident that converting our bus into a class a motor home will have challenges, but doing a massive overhaul and remodel on a motorhome / RV remodel didn’t seem to align with the off grid bus life we were aiming for.
In Season 4 we share the interior build as we turn it into our home.

@@truckergrandma Hi June, Sorry you are having troubles with it. I just tried it myself and it automatically applied the discount at checkout. So as long as you use the link we provided, then look at your Order Summary on the right side of the page (on a computer, not sure about using a phone) you should see the code 15REHABIT815 is already applied and the 15% deducted. If you try to put the code into the box for promotional codes it says it is not valid, as they have set it up to automatically apply. Sorry, it is a little confusing but I guess you don't actually need the code, just the link. Here's the link if you need it - www.amazon.com/gp/mpc/A3M2S3H0SPDH8D Happy shopping! You are going to love these shades :)

Great video and project! You could just put another strip of wood vertically each side of the frame which snugs up in front of each edge against the shades/blinds, then it not only holds the whole shade against the window or close to it(within the Frame) it also blocks out any light each side where there's a gap so no light can get through when down when up or down you won't see the edges of the blinds and also WHATEVER position the blinds are at height wise, they're always held in place near the window by the edging of the frame holding them back(kind of like similar look to when blinds are set between two panes of double glazed windows) might just finish it off nicely and give the whole thing/blinds and enclosed look and well they will ACTUALLY be enclosed, so no need for magnets unless you chose to do that as an added measure!? Just a thought.. great job guys! Love the build! Cheers from London England 👍😎🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🙏

Add some vertical guides to the frame that can house the blinds in, effectively boxing them in like rails. This way, it does not matter which way the bus slant towards. They can also help reduce light from bleed in.
@Rehabit8
@Rehabit8 2 года назад
That's a great idea but we didn't want to box our windows in. We want to be able to remove, clean and replace the screens PLUS keep our emergency exit handles all accessible.

Thank you for addressing the movement of the bus and how you will keep the shades in place. I love the streamline look of blinds, but I didn’t have a clue on how to keep them from banging around when driving. I appreciate your magnet suggestion. You will have to see how much light you can see after dark. I would be interested in knowing that. Great job! 😍👏👏👏

I've been following your build almost since the beginning. It's been both entertaining and informative. I've been following a bus family for quite a bit longer. A couple & 10 children. I believe 3 we're born since they started full timing. They are now building out a Van Hool coach bus after living in a Thomas activity school bus for 4 years. I just watched a video of them skinning the sides of the bus. You wouldn't believe how much easier theirs was. The couple & oldest son completed it in 2 days! Since I know you have watched others doing their builds, you've probably seen The Bus Life channel. This video is their latest. It's called Installing gloss black aluminum paneling on the exterior of our Van Hool bus conversion.

Hi Mela & Don, The perfect knife(s) you need as they will be a perfect addition to your RV Bus is the Japanese plastic chefs knife as I'm sure you've seen them advertised on television and they stay Razer Sharp. Good luck of what ever you decide I believe they are called the 'ginsu' knife.

I agree, You will want to add some stick on magnetic strips to the bottom of the shades. My shades in my Class A are like those and they drove me crazy flapping going down the road. I put some of those magnetic strips like they make refrigerator magnets out of. A little double sided tape and Bob's your Uncle!

Sometime ago while I was active duty Air Force we purchased a old window Dodge van . I'm thinking it was a 1966 or 68. The engine sit between the two front seats. We used it for camping , traveling back and forth home to visit family . Our 2 children boy and a girl learned to go to sleep on our trip. When I got off duty and my leave started we were packed to travel over night 12 hour drive. Anyway I took the windows and blacked them out. And then framed the windows in like you did yours.

you're going to need to secure the bottom of the shade while driving. All my RV shades have a string running from top to bottom to keep it from swinging while going down the road. One option would be to raise all the blinds while underway, or stick some white velcro on the back edge of the bottom of the shade to stick it to the bottom of the window frame. OK, I see you guys have a plan...

I'm not sure I understand what you mean but we didn't want our trim/frame to cover the windows so we can open them and take out/replace the screens if needed. So we couldn't overlap the shade to keep it in place. But actually glued on some magnets yesterday it worked well to hold it in place :)

to keep the shades from flapping I would glue magnets, to the triangles in the bottom corners and the sides of the blinds...or glue the magnets to bottom of shade and the inside window seal..

The window frames make such a big difference, the blinds are very good, My concern is that because you can close them so easily would they come down if you were driving along a bumpy road, I know that you have said that you will put magnets in the blinds to keep them in place but it only takes one bump to dislodge a magnet. Have you thought about putting flattish sliding bolts near the top to keep the blinds in place
@Rehabit8
@Rehabit8 2 года назад
I think a big pothole might make the magnet release but being a magnet it will suck it back in afterwards. We just don't want it to rattle and make a noise constantly. So we'll give it a shot!

I have something similar to your blinds at home that fit into a frame surrounding the window. The frame provides a track for the blinds to follow and prevents swing out when the blinds are partially down and the window behind is open. Perhaps you could fabricate something like that?
@Rehabit8
@Rehabit8 2 года назад
That's a great idea, however we don't want to make it so we can't open our emergency exit windows or take the screens out etc. We kept the trim to the outside so everything is still easily accessible. Also it will still rattle. What we want to get rid of is the sound of rattling as we drive. I think the magnets are holding well, we'll see when we roll out of here :)

@@Rehabit8 Interesting you guys were using a lot of the songs I've heard from other youtubers so I didn't realize. I love epidemic they have a pretty sound catalog specially if you like HipHop

Are you using the same thing for the windshields

Good question, probably not because of the angle and shape of them. We have not decided what to do there and have those pop up covers (like for cars but bus size) to put in there for now.

We tried to order these shades but the discount code would not work and a Amazon Rep was not able to apply it either…..

Hi June, Sorry you are having troubles with it.
