This was my first rod, and first reel, and the 2 summers/autumn's I spent in Minnesota fishing it, it was fantastic, I upgraded the line to a Scientific Angler Mastery MPX, and became the terror of panfish, bass, a few pike and a handful of trout, I still fish it regularly and enjoy the crap out of it, once you get used to it, your loops will tighten up and your accuracy will improve nicely
Awesome! Thanks for the comment and for sharing the tips with the upgraded line. It is a pretty potent setup for sure. Is it still your main tool or you have something else in the bag?
Easily the best review on this rod. I had the same issue with the alignment dots, they might as well take them off of the design. Ive been fly fishing for around 3 years and this rod is great for intermediate anglers.
I have several Redington Classic Trout rods (2wt, 4wt, 6wt). I want to get faster ones in 4wt and 8wt for distance. I'm looking at Vice rods, but I've read that they are very fragile and snap easily. Very heavy swing weight is another downside, as they say. Can you help with some suggestions?
I felt that the rod was very well built and didn't have any concerns about the durability. As for swing weights, I agree that the rod is definitely on the heavier side, but personally I didn't think it was an overwhelming problem, and the price and performance made up for it. Generally speaking, rods in this price point will have heavier swing weights. If you are looking for rods around this price point, Orvis has solid options, and I've heard good things about Fenwick although I haven't fished them personally. Also keep in mind that the same model rod can vary significantly between different weights.
Made in China. Cheap, very low quality. Junk. Mine broke the next day ....lost two inches from the tip. Returned for a for a refund and ordered one from ORVIS. Orvis and Maxxon are the best.
