There is a human being out in the depths of the internet who tried to explain to me why Rogue One was better than Full Metal Jacket.

The Duracell kid is the key to all of this.

The whole point of the Hakuna Matata sequence was that Simba hadn't developed. He shut himself in, bumming around in hedonistic pleasure while remaining willfully ignorant of the suffering of his family. He never grew as a person until conflict was thrust directly into his daily life.

Rich is a funnier character than we've had in the past.

If Disney made a Star Wars movie about the statue in the sand and it starred Neil Breen, Joe Pilato, and CGI Cameron Mitchell , I'd be there opening night.

That Vader/Lion King scene was beautiful.

I had never heard of that Star Wars Detours thing until I watched this and even that less than 1 minute montage of scenes from it legitimately made me feel like I was going to throw up.

Rogue One and all the stand alone movies keep hyping the fall of Empire as the most important thing in the Star War Universe. Which I think we all agreed on... UNTIL Disney Star Wars! Force Awakens and Last Jedi seemed to say it was meaningless, the empire just comes back as the First Order. Like what is the point of this movie now? "We sacrificed ourselves to destroy the first Death Star.".. that will be rebuilt 2 more times anyway. It's like an adventure movie about trying to delete a tweet from the internet..impossible.

It's rare that a creator gives so much credit and promotion to the original producer of the material that they've used. You're a good guy.

"The Return of the Lion King (2003)" was a nice touch.

But in all fairness... that commercial has a better, more memorable cast.

"The character development in The Lion King happens off screen." Christ that may be the most factually incorrect thing I've ever heard Rich say. There is a "time skip" in The Lion King, but the fact that no character development happens at all during the time skip is almost the point of the entire movie. The entire point of it being that Simba expressly DIDN'T develop as a character upon growing up, so that Nala could force development upon him via emasculation and shame.

I've watched this about a hundred times in the last few years, thank you for all the hard work and entertainment. Rlm should be proud to have a fan like you!

Jay hasn't seen Lion King since he was kid, but he remembers disliking it because the character development happened off screen.

I love how XCOM has its own section in Rich's brain.

God those rebel soldiers' uniforms were distractingly Vietnam War-esque. Even some of their blasters had M16 parts in them.

I don't know why everyone complains about the cinematic universe so much, The Statue in the Sand looks incredible.

I'm glad Rich and Mike mention the need for Jyn's character to change; Either have her be the kid of some high-ranking Rebel, but she has reservations about the cause, having grown up with it and seen the nasty underbelly to the operations and missions they carry out. She becomes conflicted when her own parent recruits her to the Rogue One team, and she sees their selflessness in the face of danger. OR, have her be some young outsider that WANTS to join the rebellion, but unlike Luke, isn't some destiny-child, and she's kind of clumsy and skittish, and therefor has to LEARN to become a soldier... You know, DEVELOPMENT? ARCS???

I'd seen that Duracell commercial so much that I hated it. But having had a kid since, I find the ending of it terribly sentimental. And it's infinitely more effective than the movie.

The Lion King character development worked because it happens on screen with them just walking along smiling for ages as Simba grows up. It shows very clearly that he just lived a carefree life.

And now it's on record that the Tantive IV was right there under the Imperial scanners when the handover of the plans happened, so that whole "We're just an innocent ambassador ship, how dare you board us, Lord Vader!" from the beginning of A New Hope is completely ridiculous!

My god that dubbing of Lion King over Jedi was amazing. Well done sir, well done.

The effects in these new Star Wars films is stunning, which only adds to the tragedy of it all. But those effects people, all 10,000 of them, deserve high praise. Pity they get ignored.

I think Rich is wrong about the Lion King. Simbas character does not change during his agening montage. He becomes a laid back slacker when he meets them as a kid and remains carefree until adulthood. His character progression starts when he as an adult meets Nala and begin to question his life choices.
