If you have a RedMax backpack ( EBZ6500, EBZ7500, EBZ8500, EBZ8550 )blower that is leaking oil you may need to replace the head gasket. I'll show you what to look for then I'll show you how to replace the gasket.

Love your videos and they have helped me fix multiple problems already! Will a leaking head gasket prevent a redmax blower from starting/running? I have 2 I've been trying to get working for my boss, both have oily mess around the head and both don't like to start and if they do start it dies out as soon as you let the choke out. Any help would be great and pleas keep posting these awesome videos!

If the head is loose enough or the gasket is blown out it can prevent it from running. Check the condition of the piston and cylinder as well, assuming you have checked everything else. Thanks for watching.

So this repair was done once already. I’m starting to think maybe the first time around to take the head bolts and get the bolt heads cross drilled for safety wire and run wire between the two pairs of bolts so they can’t loosen. Go karting and other sites have the fixtures for easily getting the holes drilled. Plus/or maybe a white paint mark between the head and cylinder to make it easier to see during a visual if they’re starting to loosen. Another alternative if there’s room, Nord lock wedge locking washers. They’re not cheap, but work really well securing bolted joints. They’re 2mm thick which may require a longer bolt, unless there’s an extra margin built in.

Wally did I see it right? A DRY piston/Rings Cylinder for initial start up? I usually apply a liberal amount of 2 stroke oil to the rings and coat the cylinder. Just my 0.02

So there’s no way to get that head/cylinder off while it’s still attached to the frame? Can I challenge you to show us in another video that the head won’t come off while the crankcase is attached to the frame? Show us where the interference is that’s stopping it?

I've done it while keeping it attached, it aint easy but it can be done. You have to come in at an angle, not straight up and down, and loosening the motor mount screws gives you some additional clearance.

Thanks for the video! Always love watching someone work who really knows what they’re doing! I need to do this to both of my redmax blowers. Any advice for getting out exhaust bolts after breaking off the tip of a t-handle in one??
