In a college course on experimental film, that I was a TA for, we had a lecture about Plunderphonics. The professor was part of that subculture in the early 90’s analog days. He asked if anyone had any contemporary examples, the room was silent. I jumped in and discussed how communities of RU-vid shit posters would slowly evolve a joke into a standalone piece of art. I played the original ad, doin, and redoin in class. The class didn’t particularly care, but the professor was dumbstruck. A passion he once had, with so many barriers to entry, had burst open into a culture onto itself. TLDR: this almost moved my professor to tears

Honestly, this is the king of highly-produce shitposts. a remix of a mashup of an electronic music gem from a forgotten album, and an even older public commercial during christmas season, the first connection already a labor of love, done for no reason. when people ask what art could "mean".....in even a decade after labors of love, done out of sheer creativity like this, I literally won't know what to tell them.

Between the beautiful retro synth lines and the lyrics being ripped from a commercial, this song manages to almost perfectly capture the feeling of watching TV at 2am when you were a child. When the ads started to get a little weird and you weren't really sure why you were still watching. This song feels like the past slipping away from you while you hopelessly try to hold on. I genuinely hate how emotional this song makes me feel. I'm sat here like a kid again at 2am, not really sure why I haven't gone to bed; why I'm still doing anything at all. Am I wasting the short time I have? Have I wasted the youth I was given? Why does this stipid video of a mascot that doesn't even exist in my country make me feel like this? When I listen to this while I'm high it is 7 and a half minutes long. I can hear every component of the production individually, and if I'm really gone they each cause bespoke inner eye visuals (usually ones that look like glitter, or glass, or cracked stone). I don't care if this comment gets buried in the 5 whole years of other comments with the same idea, but I want to give this wonderful YTPMV the respect it deserves. Starting out as a pretty lame ad for Christmas in July by a forgotten store, then being made into a basic remix with the seemingly random title of "doin" 5 years later, then 2 years later turned into a vaporwave type mix. I first heard this gift to the world on the 500 "Top Ten Object Show Intros" for the cancelled "Battle for Drawpile", and I was absolutely immersed with the autotuned, out of context lyrics about sale prices. This has got to be one of the most ambitious YTPMVs out there along with "Steamed Hams Inc." and even "Big Beat Mario", which was the very first of its kind. This Daft Punk-inspired commercial mixup is one of the great videos of all time, and I'm tired of pretending it's not. I just found this video yesterday lol

i think in some way a lot of nostalgia can be inherently linked to capitalism, whether that be malls, stores or in this case advertisements. we see advertisements all our lives, and with everything they lose relevancy as time passes, theres a type of tragedy to aged advertisements promoting a sale that no longer exists, or stores you can no longer enter, or companies long defunct having recorded evidence of when they were thriving theres new technology out there, more and more advertising and the wretched hand of capitalism grips the web each passing day, but one cant help but feel a bit melancholic at the remnants of old memories coming to pass
