Occasionally, konami will completly re-draw a card to censor something about it.
The most iconic example of this is Monster Reborn, which in its original art was an Ankh, that is the symbol of life itself in ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics.
However it also looks very similar to a cross from other religions, so the artwork was changed to an angle looking creature to avoid any connections with real world religions.

I don't know why they thought it was necessary, but I do prefer the international version of the card. It looks cooler I think.

@@euducationator I think Barrel Behind The Door is another card that looks better in the international version. It still looks like a pistol that's about to fire a bullet, but now it looks thematically appropriate and far less generic.

To me, it always looked like an amethyst obelisk stone with a very stylized ruby scarab with unfolded wings. The rest is just artistic liberty in design.

I think the RU-vidr confused themselves here. I come across these card change clips a lot and half of them don't make sense.

How on earth is it an angel, it's clearly a key of some magic/divine nature, unless it's meant to be an interpretation of the absolutely messed up and really weird n crazy descriptions of some of the angels in the Bible, which is why Evangelion's angel are all like monsters or obscure shapes

Honestly I think the new Monster Reborn is much cooler. The old one is pretty lazy, although it does work very well with the Egyptian theme, which they should also have put into the new one.

Masaki Hirooka is the artist for the original drawing of Sea Claw of the game Alteil... Who was also the artist they brought on board for Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia on the DS... Which is a game that Konami made, and Konami made Yu-Gi-Oh! Love how it all comes back full circle.

Monster Reborn goes so hard but it's so weird they decided to censor it when it's a pretty common symbol in media. I mean Super Man TAS had a Dr. Fate Episode and then The Mummy was about to air a kids show sharing a block with Yugioh.

Fun fact: the Ankh being a symbol of life and resembling a cross didn't bother the actual Christians, Egyptian Christians repurposed the symbol and used it happily for many centuries as a foreshadowing of Christ.

"Mad Lobster" got its redesigned artwork first in OCG from Expert Edition Volume 4 (September 22, 2007), which comes before the TCG counterpart release (November 14, 2007). "Mad Lobster" was originally released in TCG with the old artwork, then redesigned for the reprint of Cybernetic Revolution packs in TCG.

To be fair to Upper Deck Entertainment (or whoever makes the localization decisions), I actually like the TCG monster reborn. The dagger looking thing (or whatever it is supposed to be) is pretty cool. And although Last Day of the Witch is pretty cartoony, it actually is kind of funny.

So last day of witches japanese name is just witch hunt. Based on the art it is likely a reference to Roman solders false crucifixion of innocent ppl for arbitrary reasons. It fits the Egyptian theme of a lot of older cards fairly well.

If you notice that in the TCG Mad Lobster art it has a glacier background. Paired with the weird looking arthropod (lobster) it can be a reference of John Carpenter’s The Thing since it was a creature found in ice and can shape shift into an imaginable creatures.

Last Days of Witch look more like the European witch burnings, Salem hung their witches. Although, I have recently learned that Mexico burned some witches.
