Keep us posted Dave. Anxious to see if you see any side effects. It worked for my Bryopsis but I think I'm having some side effects. Just a theory. lol. At least my coral are not suffering. Whew!
If it's a 2--3 week process do you put the medication in the new water you are putting in the tank? If you have snails will it harm them as they eat the algea affected by the treatment?
Dave, it's snowing letters in your video. :D Seriously though, good vid on administering fluconazole. For your algae issue, if you wanted to make sure that you prevented that outbreak iin the first place, maybe a good thing to do would have been to put a bag or media basket of crushed coral or smaller rock with a fast-growing macro algae like ulva or grape caulerpa on it. The crushed coral would have given the beneficial bacteria a place to live and the macro algae would most likely have outcompeted or prevented the bryopsis. If you didn't like the look of the crushed coral in there, then you could have reduced the amount of crushed coral gradually. Just my 2 cents, Brother.
I agree with you. My main problem was flow. Detritus had fallen out of the live rock and was not being removed. The bryopsis came in on a frag and found the perfect environment. I had to act quick to prevent it from entering the main system. I am considering a sand bed in the frag tank against popular practice
Hey, I have a pretty relevant question. You stated you plumbed a frag tank and avoided cycling? Why would you need to cycle a frag tank that's getting plumbed to an existing system? I ask because I added an 8 gallon frag to my main display, plumbed it and then started seeing algae issues in the display and frag tank without adding anything but frags to the tank
The Reef Flux states "do not overdose". Fluconazole is dosed 5 days to fight fungal disease in fish but once for bryopsis. I have heard about the 4X dose for bubble algae, but I don't know the effects on bio filtration or micro fauna in a ref tank. Thanx for watching and commenting
@@Davelembo theres a thread on r2r about it a few people tried it supposedly works even better on red bubble algae but takes like 4 weeks or something and doesn't harm the tank
@@bsmbB Yes I'm aware of the thread. I discussed it with ReefDudes on my livestream 2 weeks ago. I don't always have faith in things I read in forums. Even the single dose has an effect on the tank in my experience. I'm not disagreeing with the post but I would go down that road with much caution.
Hi, Dave! Do you think fluconazol can be used often to avoid algae growth? I've thought about using it once in a while as a prophylactic measure. Any thoughts?
Might be a good experiment but I wouldn't do it. Fluconazole does effect your biological filtration IMO and should be saved for bryopsis treatment. Hair algae is a manageable problem in a reeftank.
