Welcome back to the course! In this episode, we reel mow greens, touch up the nursery and mulch. A typical weekend morning on the golf grounds crew. Thanks for joining me.
Morning days feel so good, i work on cutting greens too but i start at 5 in the morning and i like cutting them at night is so peaceful towards sun coming out.
Thanks! Yea my old course actually started to switch more and more to ride mowers instead of push mowing. Guess it just depends on the course. Thanks for posting a comment!
I am very new to running a Greensmaster and I agree without dew it’s very difficult to see your lines. I have a private green on my farm and if I miss the morning mow I mist the green prior to tackling it,
We used to mow greens in pairs. when mowing straight lines, while mowing you are always correcting the line....If had a dollar for every plug I have replaced on greens......
Been on the course for about 3 months now. Love every aspect of it. We have electric mowers, moved on from the gas powered maybe a month ago. Have any other tips on keeping your lines as straight as possible, and keeping a steady turn when exiting the green to do your next line?
To keep your lines straight you want to pick a point at the far end of the green and a point in the distance, say a tree or a bend in a bunker when laying down your first line. Keep your eyes focused on having them in line at all times until it comes time to raise it. I also like to put down the first line on the easiest part of the green for the direction that you've choosen to cut that day. Then after that it's mostly the same as when you learned to drive, focus in the distance where you're going. Then you get long gentle motions. If you keep fidgeting on how you're doing on the linework right infront of the mower you're going to get squigglies.
Hey John, we had a guy hit a stainless steel tee [never seen one before] while mowing a tee box and trashed a reel. Also does your course mow the greens on Sunday? Keep Up the videos
Hey Steve - thanks a lot for watching. I’ve never heard of a steel tee!?! Dang. That WOULD do some damage. That’s crazy. Yup, we mow every single day. Usually you get rotated off mowing for a bit so you don’t get burned out. Appreciate you taking your time to comment.
Listen to what your manager tells you, don't be afraid to ask questions no matter how stupid you think it sounds. Trust me, they'd rather you ask than you don't. Don't be afraid to make mistakes, even people who have been doing this job for years still make mistakes. Remember, it's just grass and grass grows back. Good luck, buddy. Feel free to ask me anything else
Hey Josh - appreciate you watching and commenting. They are TifEagle Bermudagrass. They roll pure and are lightning fast. We have some discoloration on a few now but hopefully get it fixed.
How much does a job like this pay? Maybe compare it to another jobs pay if you're not comfortable talking about your income?? I'm assuming it's a seasonal job then, or is there year round work to do?
Umm to be honest there really isn't any other way to cut putting greens other than reel mowers.....UNLESS your in Japan and a woman, they cut greens by Hand with special scissors or something
At one minute I stopped watching because there was dirt and grass residue in the back of your 4x4 John Deer Cart. I think grab a buddy and do a thorough cleanup of the shop.
Im in my 2nd year on a golf course. Small 9hole course in the mountains. My boss passed unexpectedly and now i have full responsibility over the course. Barely know what im doing and until help is found im a 1 man crew
