Why don't they have a camera on top of the table and a projector so that you can project where all the balls were, directly onto the table, in the event of a re-rack??
Hmmm...solve the problem....overhead camera and projector. When replacing the balls, turn down the lights a bit and use the projector to put an image on the table where the balls were. Problem solved. Your're welcome.
Stereovision HD cameras should be placed directly above the match tables and left recording during the entire games and the files kept in perpetuity. The Bennies? A. The ref could use a projected holographic HD image to replace the balls if required and B. The owners of the videos could make a killing selling off entire games in 3-D. I'd love to watch a game in 3-D. We have the tech now. One hopes one of these days....
You just need an iPad that the ref can pick up and flick between shots of the two tables superimposed from above. He would take no more than 30 seconds to put the balls back. No more signalling to the marker etc.
The miss rule didn't come into play until somewhere in the early 90s, IIRC. Maybe late 80s? So before they had still video technology, there was no miss rule and you couldn't replace a foul. I've never liked the miss rule. A snooker shouldn't be worth 20+ points in some instances.
@@andymerrett in that frame, spencer needed 6 snookers...so the miss rule is not needed...u can not force your oponent to play the shot again if u need snookers
GET RID OF THE FOUL AND MISS RULE. The foul and miss rule should be put in the rubbish bin where it belongs, whoever thought up this stupid rule shouldn't be in a position to frame rules. It can't be applied to any game that doesn't have a referee, there are ample penalties for any foul shot without making the game so complicated. Besides the penalty points gained from a foul shot, a player can make their opponent play again if they feel disadvantaged by the foul, or if the foul shot results in a snooker another ball can be chosen to represent the ball in play. This is enough without taking all the enjoyment out of the game and starting conflicts with this stupid foul and miss rule that most players don't understand. The rules for chess and so many other games don't change every ten years but it seems that the officials who make the rules just can't leave the game of snooker alone. If you believe the foul and miss rule should be removed from the rules of snooker please give this comment a thumbs up.
@@TheWeepingDalek "Thumps up"? Oh you mean thumbs up, nobody came forward to contradict my comment either, perhaps they don't care about the rules and they play to their own made up rules, it's sort of like American kiddie pool where there are scores of different rules depending on where you're playing. Snooker is on the slippery slope and it's because nobody cares, very soon all the billiard clubs will get rid of their regulation size tables and install small 6x4 tables with pockets like buckets and snooker will be regarded as that quaint game the old timers used to play.
@@MsMara287 or maybe people actually like and respect the miss rule and you have proven yourself to be in the minority. But hey let's see. Like this comment if you think the miss rule is a good idea that makes the game more interesting.
doesn't matter if he hit the red, he didn't hit it first, so it wasn't the best attempt, simple as that. The referee will have the last word in this hugely subjective rule and in professional play will almost always rule Foul and a Miss.
