"Sreetips" is the RU-vid guy you want to watch if you want to learn how to refine gold. He shows how to inquart, mix acids and dissolve gold. He also shows you how to precipitate the gold in solution back into gold metal. He's very thorough.

I would suggest corn flaking the gold/silver amalgam to increase surface area. All you do is pour it in water when it's molten. also you can add water as it boils to keep it hydrated. You don't want to add much water at a time.

If you "cornflaked" your enquartered gold first and used nitric acid to break down the silver first you would then pour off green coloured liquid which You should be able to get your silver back also Jason then use your hydrocloric and hydrogen peroxide to just melt the gold the ln precipitate the gold mud into pure gold then you would do a bit better I think great effort for first time though
@PatringtonPirateProductions
@PatringtonPirateProductions 7 месяцев назад
Sorry if im arse about face with the acids as in the UK we can't get nitric I use high concentrated sulfuric acid until there's nothing left bit pure gold mud then use hydrocloric and hydrogen peroxide to dissolve the gold mud and precipitate using SMB before putting on the crucible you can also get your silver back using lye and sugur defo worth watching streetips
@johnfarrow5873
@johnfarrow5873 7 месяцев назад
No hydrochloric if you're just looking to do the gold you don't need to use acuragia if you mix hydrochloric with the nitric you're going to put the gold into solution and that's not what he was trying to do he was simply try to take out the silver
@PatringtonPirateProductions
@PatringtonPirateProductions 7 месяцев назад
That's fair comment also It would be better refined if he put the gold in solution and precipitated it back though as what he has done is added silver to gold then just removed the silver again putting gold in solution then precipitating it back would get the gold purified that's your next step I'm guessing though Jason well done
@xuthuschannel5061

Hey Jason! Good job! I've got two things to add: 3:50 First rule: Never pour water into acid! Especially for sulfuric acid. Pour the acid into the water. ALWAYS! If you pour water into concentrated sulfuric acid, the first drops may boil and cause a steam blowout (especially in tall vessels). The water of the water-nitric acid mix is for dissolving the silver nitrate. 14:00 The gold should look like crumbs of chocolate powder. Your alloy wasn't mixed properly. All the best!

ALWAYS add water to acid, not acid to water. Do it wrong and you get a steam explosion that blows acid all over, put a pan under the burner to catch spills. one the size of your hood would be good... gives a big work surface little corn starch shaken in the glove will help it slide on, plus it absorbs sweat

If you ever get any of that silver nitrate on your hands, you can wash it off immediately. Unfortunately, after your hands get in sunlight the UV light will react with it and turn the area you spilt it on a blackish purple color. It wares off eventually after a week or two so don’t be alarmed when it happens.

As part of the Oak Island (Nova Scotia) treasure, there is said Templar (et al) trade with Mayans and Aztecs ... and the possible blue clays on the island being exploited as a trade item ... that the Mayans/Aztecs worshipped for body and building paint - much like the Hopi worship blue corn. The Mayans and Aztecs then paid back in "tumbaga gold" which were gold/silver/copper like small garlic bread-sized bars. With this, you can easily smelt out the copper, silver, and gold, and any other contaminants as slag with great ease. But, this isn't putting silver into a gold matrix to somehow pull out contaminants, or use a nitric acid process (which would pull out any other possible (----- metal) nitrites and nitrates from the original gold source. So the modern version of only using (contaminated) gold, or processing gold with nitric acid alone are 2 different processes, and not putting in any other precious (or rare) metals back into the source. Silver (1763F) would come out easy. Silver (and copper) doesn't pull out any contaminants, so putting it in doesn't make any sense. Borax and other 1800s, 1900s slag compounds like limestone and marble chips (calcium carbonate, offgassing), and/or least-so gypsum (calcium sulfate) would be other smelting and slagging processes of the 1849ers-1900s California, Oregon, Washington, and Alaska Gold and Silver Rush silver and goldsmiths getting a true value of the mined and panned gold. Their processes (i.e, borax or other industrial metal tin or zinc - pulling out copper (1984F) as brass (copper-zinc) or bronze (copper-tin) (or copper nitrite/nitrate acid process) would make sense. Gold (1948F) processes differently than black sands iron (2800F) and iron-manganese (2275F) or iron-titanium (3034F), and would flow freely away from these metals and solidify into their own constituent globules. Any suspected iron and nitric acid could pull iron contamination as a ferric or ferrous nitrite or nitrates. Then whacking the gold of any other slag would knock off any other component contamination. Lead (622F) and mercury (red 500F and black 727F) contamination would also flow out before gold. Tin (450F) and zinc (787F) would also follow lead and mercury along with flow metal and their toxic vapors. So best to use the conventional, least costly, and least bug-a-boo technique for gold smelting, especially with the very clean source of material you are getting from the Wisconsin and Ontario Lake Superior orogenies.

Instead of a button, once in quarter, pour Liquid Metal into a pot of water to creat “shot”. It dissolves faster

Great improvised ventilation system, you can use it when drying out your gold before weighing.

Love the science experiment! Definitely be careful with the acids! I haven't seen gold refined with only nitric acid before, always with aqua-regia. 🤔 Interesting! 😎🍻
@FlourgoldWizards

The gold will usually purify to around 99.3 ! Aqua regia cleans it up the rest of the way ✅

Wrong kind of gloves..Be careful with that acid. I work with acids daily at work..You can put the beaker or graduated cylinder on the hot plate..It can handle the temp.

Excellent man! You might want to try to pour the molten alloy into shot to create as much surface area as possible. It will help disolve the silver faster out of the shot. Great video. Thanks for sharing.

My friend love the video. Please stop that . The acid builds up so fast. Every drop of water you wash with every thing in that 5 gallon bucket is acid that has to be dealt with. I did this for 10 years. I still have to get rid of my chemistry build up. My friend worked in Nevada at a gold plant. Yes fun was had . But now I've got to get rid of it all what dumb it on the ground. HECK no. Please don't. As a want to be friend and fan . Yes evaporate as much as you can still an acid. Bro love to you and family dogs the most . If this gets in your pond all dead. Love bro. Blessings

Jason you're a beast! Going out next weekend is not on my list of things to do here in Illinois. It's gonna be cold bud. Good for cobbles not so much for people. Be safe out there! I truly enjoy learning along with you. I can't wait until spring to start putting everything I've learned so far to use and hopefully finding my first ever little gold strike.
