Were sort of doing the same thing on the inside of our Endurance 35ft as well...we've just taken out all the forward furniture/head etc sections plus we have to put in a new deck as well....fun for the future I suppose..!
perhaps you could use a circular saw and run two cuts parallel to timber insert and then chisel out the fibreglass covering the hardwood just an idea good luck regards Andy
