Thanks for this video, it definitely led me through all the right steps and hopefully cured our issue. There was a lot of ice built up around our ice maker that made it a challenge. Within that ice was some mold which freaked me out a bit, but what's done is done. Total replacement time was about 1/2 hour. Repair guy wanted near $300. $200 of that just labor. Ordered the new maker from Amazon. Whirlpool 2198597. Thanks again, extremely helpful.
Saved me from a big repair bill. My ice maker was all frozen up,I think from a rouge ice cube getting stuck under the prying fingers. they ended up buried deep in the cubes. I was able to remove , thaw, and replace with ease thanks to this video. working fine in just a couple hours. Thank you again
Great video Steve. The only thing I would add is when reinstalling the ice maker one might need to bend the black filler tube up so that it will clear the ice filler cup and allow one to slide in the unit.

Warning to others, make sure you unscrew and keep the ice-maker bracket in a safe place if you're not ordering an ice-maker right away as the new one doesn't come with it (I had to order one).

Thanks, very helpful. Easy to follow. I was investigating why water squirted out the back of the refrigerator. (It turned out to be an 1/3" long ice block in the black rubber hose plastic tube [inside the freezer at the top, pointing straight down] that feeds the icemaker--the water had nowhere to go and backed up until it squirted out around where the goes in at the top/back of the refrigerator. Probably due to stuff I had stacked up behind the icemaker, ruining air circulation. Or, perhaps because the ice was full and unused for about a month so no new water had flown into the tube in a while. When I grasped the black rubber hose my hand warmth thawed it and I could squeeze out the small ice blockage. If it was some more serious problem, the entire hose would have probably been frozen.) The base on mine icemaker also needed cleaning. So, again--thanks!
I did the 5-cube narrow model using this video. THANK YOU! Some of my problems--in case it helps others. 1. The door mount slightly interfered with pulling the unit out. But a little wiggle got past it. 2. On reinsertion--must align the unit fully right. I had it about a quarter-inch to the left, which could start, but quickly hit a stop. I forced it past that stop, and hit another. 3. Removing and reinstalling the wiring harness cover is rather awkward. Persevere.
Great video. Is there anywhere I can find out how to replace the water feed for this ice maker? My ice maker is spraying water over the inside of the freezer, everything is encased in ice now! Thanks for any guidance.
Were you able to replace the line inside the top of the freezer cabinet? I think it freezes up due to a leaking water valve and eventually plugs the line. It can split the line if not fixed quick enough. I hate to do it, but I'll probably have to empty the freezer, turn it off and thaw the line...

Steve, Simply put, YOU ARE THE MAN!!!!! What a great video! Followed your steps exactly for a trouble-free replacement. Any opinion on the off-brand replacement icemakers for Whirlpools? I haven't exactly been overwhelmed the quality of the original Whirlpool part (second time I've replaced icemaker).
Your video was very easy to follow - thank you. We have a Kenmore side by side model 51252101 with icemaker model W10190961. It was making no ice. We removed and disassembled the icemaker. We found solid ice on the heater fins and ice crystals in the chamber with the rotating control disk. After thawing and drying it out, we put the icemaker back in and got ice in 2 hours. After that, no more ice in the next 14 hours. Other than waiting, is there anything else we should check or do?

Great video my ice maker was leaking so I took it out dried it out everything seemed fine but now no water coming out of the tube.I had no problem with that before. mad sure the tube was in the proper spot .Any ideas

How do you know if it's the ice maker or the sensors that are not working? Water gets to the ice maker. This unit use to make ice cubes fairly fast... maybe from almost empty to full within 6 hours. Now, it seems to dump a tray 3 times in about 12 hours... * I bumped up the freezer to a colder setting...
I've got a question for you Steve. My new ice maker takes about 1:45 min. to 2 hours to make a batch of ice. This seems like a long time to me. Is this normal? I usually have to replace the ice maker about every 2-3 years. Also, I had to use the old wiring harness because ours mounts from the front of the freezer to the back-not from the left side to the right like in this video. The wiring harness that came with the new ice maker is about 2-3 inches too short but is exactly like the one in this video. Is there a special wiring harness that I need to buy? Our Whirlpool side by side is about 13 years old. I clean the condenser coil about every 3-4 months.
Can I assume that this is the exact same part the fits the KitchenAid KSRG25FKSS04? When I look up the P/N 2198597 (or D7824702) they don't have the end white cover and some say wiring harness not included. -- Thanks
I have a Holland model #bs24x9dk,,,it worked until i moved fridge from 1 house to another.I tried the jumper wire from T H and no movement.I took another icemaker the same same from another and put in.It made 1 cycle and now quit.Any ideas or should i go ahead and order a new 1 and try that..
Replacing the ice maker onto the tracks was extremely difficult as you can't rotate the unit in side the compartment- it is too wide. What a job it is to connect the harness while it is on the tacks as the harness is too short and then try to insert onto the tracks ! The video does not show how difficult it is to do and skips over this hassle.
The model used in the video was wide enough to allow us to rotate the icemaker into position after the harness was connected, but it was a tight maneuver.
My problem is with the ice bin / crusher in the door. It is stuck and I can't figure out how to get it off! The button on the right side is stuck in the depressed position. I've managed to loosen the thing somehow, but now it just rocks around, but I can't get it off to replace the part.
Bonnie Traylor I'm assuming you were able to get the ice bin off the door by now. But in case it's still stuck.... when mine got stuck I had to clean out the ice that was impacted down on the bottom of the dispenser. Be careful not to cut your hands on the blades.
Refrigerator is a Kitchenaid model # KSRA25ILSS01 side by side refrigerator. I've tried calling Whirlpool for the ice maker replacement assembly part # but they say that one wasn't made for that model. Have to order parts separately. The assembly looks identical to the one in your video, as well as the fridge. Will the ice maker assembly part # 2198597 "fit" in my model fridge? Thank you.
I wish I had found this video before I did the job! I managed to figure it our anyway, but I also managed to damage the black spout that the water fills from! Now when it fills it also sprays water through a split in the spout. I don't know what it's called so I can't even find the part. Can you tell me what it's called?
I have an ART721 full 3xart721f01 the icemaker has been removed. what is the part number. I've never seen what it looks like even. ( i inherited the freezer ) I know I could fix it if I could find the parts.

The ice maker for your model is an optional piece and the parts will have to be individually ordered. The other option you can do is contact the manufacturer and see what information/parts they have available.
