You're such a generous cobbler. My cobbler charges 50 dollars for having to clean the shoes if they're not in a clean state for repair. I thought he was unreasonable.... I understand WHY now.
@jas9friend
@jas9friend 3 года назад
A good clean and polish at my local cobbler is 16 bucks but he doesn't do anything close to the services this guy does. He wouldn't repair the shoe and he doesn't deal with glue on soles. He only deals with welted soles.
@baberoot1998

Lol. You bring in a filthy caked on dirty shoe or boot...(Because you obviously don't want to clean it, you want to PAY someone to do it), but... when the cobbler says, "$50 extra please", you act like HE is being unreasonable. Bahahahahahahahaha!!! Now that...is funny.

Old Russian Joke: Natasha Rostova attends her first formal ball and dances with Pierre Bezukhov: "Pierre, isn't that grease on your collar?" / "Oh my, how could I miss such a terrible flaw in my costume, I'm totally destroyed!" [he retreats in shame] / Then, she dances with Kniaz Bolkonsky: "Andrew, isn't there a spot of sauce on your tunic?" [he faints] / Finally, she's dancing with Rzhevsky: "Poruchik, your boots are all covered in mud!" / "It's not mud, it's shit. Don't worry, mademoiselle, it'll fall off once it dries up."

Nice work indeed Dan and well done on the restoration, but this video is a good example for any horse riders to not let their leather riding/competition boots to get into such a bad state before having them professionally cleaned and resoled. No excuse for not making the effort to at least clean the boots lroperly before leaving them into a reputable cobbler for repairs and making the effort to keep your belongings in better order. Well done and keep up the good work, sir. Cheers 😎👍🍻

Doesn't really matter what it is covered in. In my time you'd change to wellies when not actually riding. People really do have too much money. Not a way to treat a pair of expensive boots. I purchased my first really expensive boots as a teenager. Double lining and all the good stuff. I kept them really nice and clean all the time, which meant that I could sell them 12 years later for the same price that I had purchased them for. They were originally so expensive that the makers ended up going belly up.

Wonder if the owner of these boots will finally take care of them properly after the repair ... it would be pointless repairing them if not. As you say, too much money obviously.

Riding boots should ideally have a 1" heel from the sole. This is to prevent the foot sliding through and getting stuck in the stirrup. If this happens and you fall off, you'll end up getting dragged behind the horse with your leg getting broken and you'll end up being trampled as the horse runs off. The owner of the boots should have let you know this beforehand, but it's an easy mistake to make if you don't ride.
@Dan_the_cobbler
@Dan_the_cobbler 2 года назад
How does the horse trample you if you’re being dragged behind it? 🤓
@SarahJSwift
@SarahJSwift 2 года назад
@@Dan_the_cobbler usually your upper body is getting bounced about on the ground while one leg is hung up, so it's the back legs that are landing on your head and chest area, maybe an arm or both if the riders unconscious. You also tend to see the rider bouncing up and down on the ground like a rag doll. Just type in the RU-vid search bar, horse rider gets dragged, and you'll see loads of videos on it. It can be quite gruesome to watch.

You are really a professional! I don't understand why this crap needs to be repaired? the client is obviously a pig - or rather a greedy pig. here in Moscow they wouldn't even take it for repairs. Rather, I think they would not even think of carrying such a repair, they would simply throw it away and buy new ones.

I'm a bit curious. Did your passion come from your career, or did your passion evolve your career? Don't get me wrong, I have every respect for your abilities, and can see by your posts that you have an incredible amount of manual dexterity, borne out of a lifetime of doing your amazing craft. Your trade is rare, and kudos to you. I myself trained as a traditional signwriter in the mid 80"s, a skill now shadowed by machines run by computer. It is fantastic to see your craft kept alive , very professionally I might add. I genuinely love boots and shoes. Not in a 'sneaker' fanatic way, but in general. I love polishing my leather shoes and boots, and can appreciate a sexy pair of stilettos on a beautiful lady. My wife and kids constantly take the Mickey out of how many pairs I own. It's fascinating to watch you working, especially in a world of throwaway culture. Keep up the good work, and all the luck in the world to you.

My wading boots have vibram soles. The soles /heel include 12 pin size openings to screw in cleats to help grip onto moss covered rocks along the riverbed. These holes no longer hold the cleats.
