This is more like progressive hardcore, this band started out like moshcore on Victory Records (same label as Earth Crisis). Epitaph didn't even put stuff like this out at this time, this was something different for Epitaph then. I haven't really followed Epitaph (I think they've become more diverse) -- I think they've even put out like screamo bands at this point, they were basically a pop-punk label for a long time.
@@aweillekevin4201 dude, no offense, but you have zero fucking clue what you're talking about. And that's coming from someone whose fav. band is R.A.T.M
When they are going straight forward it's like a freight train, when they diverge to do a melody and change up the pace its at the same time a surprise and also as natural as it can be. Where the hell has this been my whole life??
Intro] "They told me that the classics never go out of style, but... they do, they do. Somehow, baby? I never thought that... we do too." [Verse 1] I got a bone to pick with capitalism And a few to break Grab us by the throat And shake the life away Human life is not commodity, figures, statistics or make-believe [Chorus 1] And yeah, I like eating excrement, not getting paid for it Play the guilt, play the fears and play the anxiety And yeah, I like eating excrement, not getting paid for it Play the guilt, play the fears and play the anxiety [Verse 2] Seduced by the opportunity and robbed of hope Alienation is not commodity, figures, statistics or make-believe Yeah! One more time, oww! Marginalize away the joy and sell us boredom [Chorus 2] And yeah, I like working doing nothing, not making anything Blame the poor, blame the uneducated and blame the sick And yeah, I like eating excrement, not getting paid for it Play the guilt, play the fears and play the anxiety [Verse 3] I got a bone to pick And a few to break I got a bone to pick, baby Yeah! [Outro] I took the first bus out of Coca-Cola city It made me feel all nauseous and shitty I took the first bus out of Shell town 'Cause they didn't want me hanging around Yeah! Yeah! I took the first bus Yeah baby, I took the first bus I took the first bus out of Coca-Cola city It made me feel all nauseous and shitty I took the first bus out of Shell town 'Cause they didn't want me hanging around Yeah! Yeah! I took the first bus Let's take the first bus outta here! Let's take the first bus outta here! Let's take the first bus outta here! Let's take the first bus outta here! Let's take the first bus outta here! Let's take the first bus outta here! Let's go! Yeah!
In my opinion 5:25 is proof that all it takes is two notes and an amazing drummer to make one of the greatest moments in music history. Some of the best music in the world is oriented around rhythm and not much else.
I always refer to this part as the best RATM riff that RATM never wrote. Much like this one, the intro and outro of Bulls on Parade is one of the most iconic riffs in rock history and just like you explained, two notes and a fat-ass drum beat.
By now this album is a fucking classic but in 1999 these guys played their last show for about 30 people not in a club but in the basement of a house, being finally stopped when some neighbor called the cops... I'm happy thinking their first show in 20 years was at coachella in front of hundreds of thousands people, being payed half a million dollars for 2 shows.
hi from December, it was looking like it'd be the best album of 2020 too, but then Refused teamed up with Samurai to make an OST soundtrack album for CP2077
Communism and socialism can't be the same, because I saw an anarchist teenager scold a socialist teenager for thinking you could reach your goals thru politics.
@@roy_for_real2674 oh yeah I only listen to this band for the music the lyrics are dumb as hell I was a communist from 2017 until a little bit ago, but it was mainly in reaction to nazis being a much larger threat and viewing commies as the only alternative

I just today thought about classics and going out of style... And came to a conclusion. A classic can never be out of style, but it can go out of style. Once a classic goes out of style, it seizes to be a classic and becomes a historical footnote of whatever it represented.
@Sd Young depends on if you’re willing to learn or not. But I don’t get how the person you called stupid is, well...stupid. I’m guessing because of anti capitalism which is a main part of this song and album, so I’m confused.
Yessssssssssssssssssssss THIS ALBUM IS STILL SO GOOD WTF. I haven't heard it in nearly 20 years and was expecting it to have aged like the rest of my music from that era but NOPE STANDS THE TEST OF TIME fuck yeah
worcester,ma went fucking crazy wen they toured through!! come back.. My friend bought a ticket for me saying "this is your style and you dont know it yet.." BEST CONCERT alongside MESHUGGAH shows! FAVORITE show considering the nostalgia
I'm into all types of music (Tim Hecker, BMTH, Godspeed, Skrillex, anything; you name it), but I have a soft spot for primarily trap/hip-hop/rap. ...But, nigga; when that riff kicks in at 5:25! GODDAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMN!!!!!
Its a hell of a claim to name your album after Ornette Coleman's album, but Refused actually lived up to it. I ended up listening to Ornette because of this album too.

I GOT A BONE TO PICK WITH CAPITALISM...AND A FEW TO BREAK!! I hate their teen-ager politics, but love the way they express it their music and also their music. Those drums, dude.
Calling something "teenager" as a descriptor is not a refutation. It just shows that you're trying to invalidate something a priori instead of actually engaging with its points, by using language that you think is sufficiently diminishing to preclude any discussion. "We live in capitalism, its power seems inescapable - but then, so did the divine right of kings. Any human power can be resisted and changed by human beings." - Ursula K Le Guin
Would the people that came here for video games, numetal, screamo and haven’t read any manifestos linked to the albums and songs please shut up?....Dang 1998 and people just discovering Refused 2 days ago judge them like a tinder picture....fuck i am old...
Screamo isn’t really a thing, numetal and the likes were pretty valid for anti capitalist or anti establishment content all the same. Although there’s plenty of generic pop bullshit too. Fact is when this came out in 1998 (I was literally just born lol) it was hated at the time for their “betrayal” of the genre.
