as a kid I used to think Tia was being rude to Pal by ignoring him but as an adult I can understand why she didn't want to talk to him, I used to think Pal was a nice guy who wanted someone to talk to.
@@jordangroff8978 Buck was a black sheep of the family as he'd fallen down the class ladder. Tia despised him for it, and likewise despised Rog because she saw him as sharing Buck's lower class/station in life.
I know "Pal". He's a drama professor at a community college, but he still acts. He's a fun guy. Good singer. They had him in costume for a long ass time because they basically designed it on set. At one point, they tried an eyepatch, and John Hughes said "Jesus, he's not a damn pirate". The costume designer suggested face injuries, and Hughes thought it would suggest he struck out with another woman- badly. He said the toothpick roll was improvised, and Jean Kelly kept blowing takes because she was giggling.
This was always cool for me because it shows Buck is the big man with the rep around that whole place. The nicest, coolest guy but the guy you can't cross. Major swag
It’s good knowing people grew up with this movie just like I did. This movie definitely hits harder when your older and your able to understand what a scumbag pal, and Bug were.
Sometimes ignorance is bliss! Back in 1993 as a kid first watching this movie, I didn't realize what a fucking creep Pal was, but now he's so disgusting to me (@ 1:30). Unfortunately there's far too many "Pal"s in the world too... guys over 30 macking on younger girls (in Tia's case a 15 year old!) and ignoring women close to their own age.
Doubt too many women his age want him so that's why he goes for the younger gals. He figures they must be easier to smooth talk. It's a sick tatic of guys like him.
Tia was 15, that's right. I thought she was 17 but that was still messed up for Pal to have approached her. What a lowdown piece of scum. Buck should've tied him in the trunk and hit golf balls at him.
Yeah, and him hitting on her was so wrong. He thought she was a college student, but he still should've asked her age first, plus a college student was still too young for that guy.
@@alvexok5523 Hugh hefner was screwing 18 year olds all the way up to his 80s. Leo Dicaprio only dates girls between 18-24 and he's like 50. No such thing as too young for a man as long as she's legal. If a mans got money and fame he can bag young women no problem.
I was 11 when this movie came out and immediately got one of my dad's toothpicks when we got home from the theater. I became an expert at that toothpick flip 😅
Even when i was a little chap back in the beginnin of the 90s when i saw this scene i knew that guy with the black eye busted lip and toothpick was no good i didnt understand what he was tryin to do by talkin Tia back then til now but still i knew his approach to her was not of any good intentions from the look he was givin in his face
@@dashiesbbgurl his name should've been Pow, not Pal, and he should've been called that because alot of people wanted to Pow him right in the face, lol
That's what I like about this scene. It's never explained, and Pal is never mentioned before or after, but clearly he and Buck know each other. We can only guess, but it looks like Buck can do way more than just give you a black eye, and Pal knows it.
@@75aces97 we learn later how Buck will take care of people who do the wrong thing. From that principal at the elementary school to Bug. Buck shouldn't have done what he did to Bug, but he handled that pricipal awesomely!!
