Regenerative agriculture can help us fight the impacts of climate change by restoring biodiversity, sequestering carbon, and increasing water conservation. NRDC interviewed 113 farmers and ranchers to learn more about what’s needed to scale up regenerative agriculture across more acres in the United States. They told us that current agricultural policy is not designed for growers like them. Produced in collaboration with Kiss the Ground, this video summarizes what policy changes would support a transition to regenerative agriculture, as told by the farmers and ranchers we interviewed.

Some questions after watching this and the fantastic Kiss the Ground documentary: Do regenerative farms receive any government subsidies? Are subsidies currently allocated to farms of any kind solely according to product output, thereby incentivizing larger factory farms over more humane, environmentally friendly, self-sustaining ones? Is there currently any widespread push for legislation that would change the current algorithm for subsidy allocations?

These are great points you brought up. I did discuss ag subsidies in one of my much earlier shows, regarding the Green New Deal. I hope to revisit that topic soon. Thanks for bringing it up.
