Reggie, you will be dearly missed. All your jokes, skits, and amazing charisma put a smile on every Nintendo fan. Wishing you all the best in life and retirement.
Here-here, Reggie's been such an important part of every important Nintendo announcement I've stayed up with popcorn to watch. It is very much like saying farewell to a good friend.
Yeah, I'm not even going to lie, yesterday when I saw the first article break out with the news, I cried. This guy has been a huge part of my life so far, and the fact that he's retiring makes me feel really old.
"Did you think i came all the way out here for just one announcement?!" I'm gonna miss Reggie at the VGAs, his presence at the show was always the highlight for me every year
Guys, it’s a hoax. I heard he staged this because he’s frustrated with the amount of money he’s getting from his bosses....oops. Wrong guy. Been watching too much of the news today. Godspeed Reggie, and thank you.
He will be missed, i always did like him. The past two presidents have been positive, warm hearted and enthusiastic leaders. We need this to keep going.
Krytern Reggie was an extraordinary PR guy, only behind Satoru Iwata. You could tell that the man had an undying passion for the products he was selling and that he actually played them before he went out and told his audience how great the products is company was selling were. When asked in interviews, he gave honest, unvague answers that left anyone watching him knowing what exactly Nintendo had in store or what they're hinting at doing. The fact that he was so memeable in an overwhelmingly positive light only helped to make him a staple of Nintendo's legacy.
Reggie to me felt like a Miyamoto, Iwata, etc. etc. To me Nintendo was the whole family, his sense of humor, his character, it was what being a Nintendo fan meant. He had this tremendous amount of charisma and I will miss him.
Being able to retire is a rare thing in this century. I'm honestly happy for anyone who is able to do that. I wouldn't want to stall anyone for wanting to do something they want to do with their life, and would want them to be happy. And am I shocked? Na, he did his work, got to where he wanted, made his dent and was able to now invest time in being with his family. Which at that level of success you sell your life away to it, and not saying it's a bad thing, it's just how it is.
If you've played it you know why they don't want to to bring it to the west lol. Not saying I agree, but the whiny, easily offended have ruined it for us.
It's gonna be hard to get use to another CEO for that company in the US. He was always the go to guy to steady the ship when things got rough. Great opportunity to celebrate his achievements.
Wow, did this news ever catch me off guard, Reggie will be sorely missed 😥🤯 I can remember back in 2004 when he announced the Nintendo DS, you know it's kinda ironic in the sense that Nintendo has slowed sales of games for the Nintendo DS and here Reggie is announcing his retirement. It definately is the end of an era. All the best to him 😊 he deserves to spend time with family, I mean after all it's what anyone retiring wants to be able to spend time with the family you could never see from working all the time. I am definitely going to miss seeing him on Nintendo direct streams over RU-vid here or even E3. Maybe one day Nintendo will have come back as a guest to announce something really good that everyone's been waiting for.
Damn dude... This is some bittersweet news. I'm happy he got to retire on such a great note for the company, but as you said Johnny... the industry will miss him dearly. Still though, happy he's in good health and is moving on to living the rest of his life that he has ahead of him. :)
Reggie retired so he can play MARVEL Spider-man, God of War, Uncharted 4, Horizon Zero Dawn and many other excellent PS4 exclusives without controversy. All silliness aside I found Reggie to be kinda threw off a weird vibe. Kinda like I couldn't trust him.
He was a great character. As the President of NOA, he was mainly a marketing guy and he definitely made some mistakes over the years, but he did a great job overall and he's leaving on top.
Growing up and becoming invested in gaming and seeing Reggie for more than a decade, it really is sad to see him go. I'm so happy for him to be able to retire and be with his family, but it's all bittersweet. Even you Johnny, I've been watching for such a long time now. Way back in the beginning when you were just getting started, before AGG, back when it was guys like PeteDorr who were the most active. I don't comment much, I've never had contact with any of you. I've just been watching and enjoying and you've been a part of my life for so long now that it would be weird if you weren't making videos anymore. It really is like I know you in a weird way. Now you're doing reviews with Victor Lucas, another person I've watched since I was only just a kid. It's pretty crazy. Truly makes me appreciate how much this hobby means to me and the people who are a big part of it.
Hey Johnny, I can totally relate to you. I don't think anyone's 'body is ready' for this moment. Reggie was the embodiment of the Nintendo of America we know of today. He is amazing!
Bowser now taking over the Mushroom Kingdom. Mario doesnt always win but we still always have fun nonetheless no matter how old we get. Reggie will still be high in the clouds looking down on us players while collecting them coins with a big smile on his face. Thank you Reggie.
I think Reggie did an awesome job! He wasn’t perfect, and unfortunately there will be RU-vid videos that heavily criticize his performance, but I don’t care. Because he really poured his heart and soul into his job, and did his best. And at the end of the day, what more can you ask for?
I see where you are coming from, but I'm not really shocked. I've never really liked any 'company personality'. But I see it might be sad for some. I'm sure he will be ok with his millions lol... cool video Jon.
If he's part of the reason why Nintendo has pumped out a disgusting amount of Mario and Zelda games and ignored franchises like Metroid and Earthbound them I'm glad......but i hope that isn't the case
Good for him, he's an incredibly loved and successful man. Maybe he has enough money, for a lifetime, and now he's ready to go on and enjoy that money and that family he made for himself. Hes a smart guy, Id be the same way if I were him
Go go Regie wish him all the best!!! Ah the game cube what a console.... man I wish I had time to play all the games over again, they are all boxed up in my attic, Mabey one day I will play them all again.
I sincerely hope, Reggie & Nintendo should finally give us westerns (MOTHER 3) as a true farewell gift from Nintendo & especially Reggie is actually retirement at Nintendo on April 15th, 2019! #Mother3 #RaheemTheDream #BelieveInYourDreams #NeverGiveUp
NOOOO!!! I'm effected by it!!! Think, we have ALOT of selfish company managers out there. You think we'll get a respectable Nintendo president now of all times? Yeah, Nintendo is about to go into some dark days.
When Reggie had his first E3, Final Fantasy XI had just launched on PS2 in North America. I feel like this is truly the end of an era. Of the old Triforce (Iwata,Reggie and Miyamoto) only Miyamoto remains
Makes me sad to johnny. When he joined and first thing he said is he kicks ass it was like a battle cry for Nintendo who had been beaten down as too kiddie by playstation for 8 years. Will really miss him
The guy was the voice of Nintendo, full of memes, and lots of one liners too. Looks like Nintendo won't be "kicking ass and taking names" anymore. And Ironically, the person replacing him has a last name of....Bowser.
It was the first thing I saw this morning. Rolled over, unlocked my phone, and that's what I saw.... It hurt. He's such a powerful presence, the way he gives off an aura of pure happiness wherever he appears is incredible. Definitely a hard person to dislike.
2 out of 4 is a great record in the Video game industry. Really 4 out of 6 if you count the DS and 3Ds. The Switch is amazing so saying he is going out on a good note is an understatement. I hope he enjoys his yachting and golfing and palates classes. He deserves it.
Johnny, it is Reggie FEE'S Amee. And iconic? I dunno about that. But I suppose it is completely subjective. Personally, I think Iwata was more of a personality than Reggie. "The Fee's" had a little stiffness about him. There was also this real sort of frat-boy dickishness to him as well. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.
Reggie to me was the Mr. Rogers of Nintendo always caring, laughing at himself and just overall fantastic, and above all else he was a Nintendo fan and true gamer among use other Nintendo fans. God speed Reggie you'll definitely be missed by this 38 year old gamer.
The news hit me unexpectedly hard, too. I grew up on Nintendo but in the late 90's I moved into the PC realm and stayed there for about a decade. The Nintendo DS brought me back into that world and I have been a died hard ever since. When I reconnected with Nintendo, Reggie and Iwata were the emerging faces of the company. I saw them through the Wii/DS days, 3DS/WiiU days and obviously into the Switch...or NX for Iwata. I feel crappy knowing they are both gone now.
It’s OK. It means he has enough money, good for him. Plus, his legacy will go on, he’s replaced by Bowser. Maybe things will get a little evil, but really nothing to mourn or make a big fuss of. Especially considering that he just represented the Americas. For Europe, Asia and of course Japan, the company is run but completely different people.
Damn... just last summer I went to NY/America for the first time and the amount of joking around we did about meeting Reggie, the creator of The Big New Yorker pizza and going to see him at the Nintendo store and blaming him for transport delays etc. He just seemed like he would always be there whenever you check gaming news or watch directs etc. Just like Iwata. Such a fun, unexpected type of CEO and the best kind from an outside point of view. I don’t get why people knock his PR talk so much when thats his job!!! What do you expect him to do? Not everyone has to be hated... thats trying really hard to find a reason not to like such an iconic figure over the last two decades, please refrain from bashing him and just let the fans enjoy what he means to us all please
I've never owned a Nintendo system aside from the Pegasus (a NES knock-off), which was a huge part of my childhood, but this news saddens me greatly. Reggie is such an amazing human being, and I'll miss him. I wish there was more presidents like him.
I admit Reggie used to bug the hell out of me when I first saw him, but it was also when I was first seeing some of the 'corporate speak' / TEDtalks style presentation of gaming conferences BUT - he exponentially grew on me and I found him to be charming, sweet, funny, and impressionable. A definitely impactful person to present for Nintendo, also bummed he's stepping aside. Hopefully someone as charming or exuberant will fill his shoes. I bet he will still pop up from time to time in some of their video (puppet) presentations as a cameo though!
What I think? More like what I felt... Like my heart sunk. Felt as if I had lost a dear family member? Except I hadn't. But it's that kind of feeling you know? This news of him stepping down was very heartfelt..
I have no idea whom this dude hes talking about is. I bowed out of interest in nintendo things after the gameboy Sp era, or the N64 and older systems era.
I thought it was a joke at first, especially because of his replacement being Bowser, but reality is sinking in and it sucks! I thought Reggie was gonna be around Nintendo for another 15 years. It seems like yesterday he first came out talking about the Wii telling us that he's all about kicking ass haha. I hope Geoff Keighley can still convince him come out to the game awards and such. Maybe we'll get to see him here and there, who knows.
I wish him the best but I've never understood the fascination with him by some Nintendo fanboys but then again I don't get much of the Nintendo fanboyism these days. To me Nintendo has just been doing the same thing with the same franchises for over 30 years now. To me, Reggie was just a mouthpiece for Nintendo of Japan. I don't see that he did anything great as President of NOA as 99% of the control at Nintendo is in Japan. He was a spokesperson essentially for NOA and imo just an average one at best. It also never seemed to me like he was really a gamer. Him talking about games or playing them always seemed forced or faked to me. So, if anyone is like like me and doesn't get the fascination with him in the Nintendo community, you're not alone.
Personally I'm fine with this, honestly can't really stand the guy. He just annoys me, I don't know. Just found him corny. I'm sure his a nice guy but he didn't gel with me personally. God luck to him anyway.
Finally Regie will stop getting bothered by Mother 3 questions. Lol Also I nevr tought about it but it's true that nobody hated Reggie. Ohhhhh it's damn true And lastly, he was a great meme factory. and *that* will be missed as well...
Is it weird that I really want him in Smash Bros now? It would be the perfect way to preserve his legacy, and it just sounds like something he would do. Like handing over the keys to someone named Bowser. Think about that one a sec. The new guy is Doug Bowser. That's such a Reggie thing to do. Lol.
i'm willing to bet that Nintendo finally killing the Creator's program on youtube and finally joining the 21st century in terms of their youtube/streaming policies was one of Reggie's last checklist items where he could comfortably walk away knowing they were on the right path to sustain their momentum from the Switch.
Yay! Good riddance, he always seemed so arrogant and too pushy of their products. I’d like to see a polite, personable Japanese president back in the North American branch of Nintendo in his absence. The wii and wii u were not solid systems in my opinion (as a humble gamer who has owned every single one of their platforms and only ever got rid of the wii/wii u after finding the libraries lacklustre). The switch is great but there are so many Japanese only games that need localization here for it to be even better. Here’s hoping they focus less on gimmicky accessories and more on porting the titles from Japan in the future. I eagerly await the change in management.
#ReggieFilsAime is gonna make a gaming channel after his retirement and having no gameplay recorded directly because he’ll be having issues with the”el gato” recorder
Well, I'll keep the memory of Nintendo presentations where Reggie and Iwata staged pretend fights and stuff, two big businessmen acting like kids, and we loved it. Now one of them is no longer of this world, and the other one moved on from having a body that is ready... Such is life.
Reggie will be missed he was with the company for 15 years that's around the time Mario Sunshine came out! I was like 7 years old in 2002, hope he has a good retirement 😊.
They did lose something but not much, go watch videos of Reggie and Doug Bowser. He is just as amazing and they chose a perfect replacement who is also as liked as Reggie. Reggie leaving hit me hard and I cannot explain it because he is healthy.
