It certainly was different time. The drivers had mad respect for each other and no one was getting run over. Been involved since 88 when Dad first raced. He actually worked at Fountain Power boats in High Performance division as the head engineer. He was heavily involved in the first step bottom carbon fiber expoxy boats built in the mid 90’s. The big one was Ohio Steel #2. That boat was wicked fast back then. 137.24 MPH according to the recording you heard when you called there and were placed one hold in 1995.
"Bye bye, movie star." I'm not even a big fan of Fountain boats, I just like Reggies ego and the way he backs up his talk. #chucknorris #donjohnson #kurtrussell #fountain #offshorepowerboat
If you listen to the commentary you'll note that Chuck Norris was driver of the day aboard the Popeyes cat, whilst Don Johnson was the driver of the 4 engined cat. Those were the days of celebrity racers!
One these 47 race hills sits down the road from me in Maryland. Been converted to a poker run boat at some point. Boats all red and named the dealer. Motors and drives are gone.
highvelocity123 in big water, absolutely. The reason Fountains are fast in flat water and fastest V bottoms then, was because they were the first V bottom to incorporate a running pad on the bottom taken from an original Allison boat design. This was a new thing for offshore hulls to have as a design. Apache and Cigarette did not have a running pad, and were slower in flat water.
Sounds like to me sloarcat1 has his kitty cat butt whooped by a Fountain more than once! And that Mercedes boat is a lake boat. We will see how well it does in a real off shore race!
It is a 1993 competition 47 Flat-deck hull only a few were made in the world. We watched this boat getting built from scratch impressive combination Fountain started first twin step hull design in 1995. We purchased our 1993 12meter Fountain ICBM the same year with the arch all red boat gray interior pair of 454s magnums 420 hp. Top speed approximately 68-71 mph
SuperGoldnut it doesn’t matter. It’s been well over ten years and no one has even tried. Well Reggie did a few years ago and almost died. The boat started packing air in the piss poor design canopy and the boat was literally getting lifted out of the water. Fiore set that record over 12 years ago. Reggie is the King of Offshore as we know it but the real King is Don A. Fiore has the speed!
I will definitely keep smoking no doubt. Bottom line is Outerlimits=Fastest V Bottom on the planet. You also must remember that I worked at Fountain, in Washington NC, as a favor to my father. He was the head of R&D while fountain was building its first step bottom, fiber carbon/epoxy boats. 1994.
