This was shot at the school her mother taught at. A beautiful song. "You're young until you're not. You love until you don't. You try until you can't. You laugh until you cry. You cry until you laugh. And everyone must live until their dying breath."

This is how it works It feels a little worse Than when we drove our hearse Right through that screaming crowd While laughing up a storm Until we were just bone Until it got so warm That none of us could sleep And all the Styrofoam Began to melt away We tried to find some worms To aid in the decay But none of them were home Inside their catacomb A million ancient bees Began to sting our knees While we were on our knees Praying that disease Would leave the ones we love And never come again On the radio We heard November Rain That solo's really long But it's a pretty song We listened to it twice 'Cause the DJ was asleep This is how it works You're young until you're not You love until you don't You try until you can't You laugh until you cry You cry until you laugh And everyone must breathe Until their dying breath No, this is how it works You peer inside yourself You take the things you like And try to love the things you took And then you take that love you made And stick it into some Someone else's heart Pumping someone else's blood And walking arm in arm You hope it don't get harmed But even if it does You'll just do it all again And on the radio You hear November Rain That solo's awful long But it's a good refrain You listen to it twice 'Cause the DJ is asleep On the radio (Oh, oh, oh) On the radio On the radio, uh oh On the radio, uh oh On the radio, uh oh On the radio

I heard this song when I was 20 and first renting a room in a townhouse with my best friend, living on my own after experiencing a tragedy. I’m 32 now and still have yet to hear a better description of the human experience than these lyrics, from the surreal to the real to the emotional - it’s just accurate.

@maryreneereuter7226
@maryreneereuter7226 3 года назад
"No this is how it works. You peer inside yourself. You take the things you like, and try to love the things you took. And then you take that love you made and stick it into someone else's heart - pumping someone else's blood." That follow-up is important. While what precedes it is absolutely honest and and beautiful - the second part changes it. She says "No, this is how it works" If you're able to do more than survive, if you're able to somehow find beauty and passion on top that, you share it with other people. Which makes sense, given the music video and that her mom is a music teacher. When times are hard, laugh until you cry, cry until you laugh, and just keep breathing, it's all you have to do. But when times aren't hard - take the love you've found and share it with others.

It will come when you least expect it tho good to nudge yourself into an activity of passion if you can :) Glad you remember how you love pure and genuine . If you love music maybe a dance class will let you unfold that love again . I found Argentine Tango classes at a local rec center when I felt similar to you in the most depressed lost and hopeless time at 38 now 43 . I always secretly wanted to dance with this old music and to my surprise it wanted to dance with me too . Now I can take classes and dance at milongas no matter if I'm sad or celebrating . Tango is always there for me even when I'm timid of my skills . The journey has introduced me to what I call my "tango family" of all ages from youth to 80 year old friends . Doing something cool for yourself will help you find that love again BBN . I know it will :)))

This is by far my favorite video, and one of the best songs by her. She is my favorite artist. I got my class to listen to her because of a report I did for school. Thank you Regina, for being an inspiration to girls and women everywhere, even those of us with no aims to be singers :)

OBSESSED with how she ends the first refrain rhyming "long" with "song", and the second refrain rhyming "rain" with "refrain". Going from ABCC to ABCB is brilliant

She clearly sings "On the Bradio" and "On the Fradio" several times. Any idea why? Is this a technique for bringing more definition to the R sound or is this a lyrical choice?

The words "the radio" together produce that sound (accidentally or otherwise) because of the abrupt end of "the." Based on the way she's singing it, it's kind of like filler.
@synchrxny

This is probably due in part to the McGurk Effect--what it looks like she's saying and what you hear aren't exactly the same and it's causing a perception of something between the two.

if you're experiencing every sound that she makes only as the symbol it stands for you're missing the point. consider the difference between prose and poetry, prose treats language as an incidental inconvenience which must be overcome in order to communicate abstract ideas, whereas poetry is more concerned with the beauty of the words themselves. the abstract meaning of the words is still important, but there is more focus on/appreciation of the sound, texture, feel, and sensual beauty of the words themselves independent of their abstract meaning. what i'm trying to say is, Ms. Spektor, in her infinite aesthetic wisdom, is playing with the words and the way in which she sings them to give herself more expressive power. this is why she is so good at what she does, she isn't just singing things according to the common consensus about how you ought to sing particular words, anybody can do that. by breaking conventions she is producing art that only regina spektor could ever produce. in this particular instance she is especially emphasizing the attack of the ra in radio by turning a liquid sound into an aspirate. this extra expulsion of air is realized as br or a fr or what have you. in the act of translating language into song, many wonderful insertions similar to this can and should occur to add musicality and rhythm to the words. if you only concern yourself with reproducing words exactly as you are expected to, you miss out on a lot of expressive potential. if you've ever listened to a song, and heard someone singing words that described ideas you liked, and their voice was great, but it still felt like the words didn't sound like they belonged where they were put, lack of awareness of the poetic rhythm of their words is likely why it sounds off. good lyricists/songwriters are very aware of the phonotactics, rythm, and texture of words and are certain to arrange them in a way that works musically. fundamentally poetry and songwriting is arranging words such that they follow a rhythm.... oh dear ive gone off on another rant again, terribly sorry
