It’s for the New Year’s 2000 event to welcome the new millenium. It was broadcasted in 67 countries. She was singing on top of a hotel building at the corner of 2 major roads in the financial and business center of the Philippines. They had to close down the roads and rerouted the traffic during its filming. The choir is composed of 2,000 school kids.
This is from BBC UK's "Millennium Special: 2000 TODAY". Each country was given 10 minutes to show to the world how they welcome the new millenium(Year 2000). 5 minutes of that precious 10 minutes was given to Regine's music video as she sings 'Written in the Sand' with 2,000 Filipino youth. This was televised LIVE by BBC UK in 67 broadcast networks in Asia, Europe, North America, South America, Australia, and Africa reaching to almost a billion people.
I believe there were 2000 kids singing with her with this performance. This was the theme song for the new millennium. Of course REGINE VELASQUEZ will always be the best singer to sing this kind of memorable song.
The kid with the hat @4:54 is the first ever Make A Wish Foundation kid here in the Philippines. His name is Kristian and he has Hemophilia A. His wish was to be able to sing and have a piano, but the foundation also gave him a once in a lifetime chance of welcoming the new year with Regine together with other 1999 kids, in a globally-televised segment in 2000 Today. In celebration of Make A Wish Foundation’s 20th anniversary, they arranged a “virtual reunion” of Kristian and Regine. The brightest artist in the Philippines. The most treasured, and most celebrated Filipina singer of all time. Such a Vocal Goddess and she literally looks like a Goddess. Oh my Queen Regina.
Wow I have just been having LSS again with this song and performance recenty. Anyway, this was actually broadcasted accross the globe. After she did this Millenila theme, she became the most influential person in the country and also sealed her as the artist of the millennium. She literally dominated everything, record sales, movies, product endorsements, concerts and even Television. This song always brings so much memories. In 2000 everything was still so simple. The life then was just super nice. Also the children here are now adults married and have children of their own. And they are vocal about that this experience was still surreal for them.
It's New Year's Eve of the New Millennium Y2k. This is a global momentum for the Philippines and cemented her iconic status as Philippines music treasure and hailed her as Queen of OPM. Asia's Songbird indeed ☺️👍🏼👍🏼
A core memory for me. Thank you also for creating the new year song Written in the Sand, Sir Danny Tan. Asia’s Songbird, Regine + awesome choir performance gave me goosebumps and comfort during the Y2K scare. New Year’s eve prayer recited well by Sir Mike Enriquez ❤ It was a momentous celebration. Back then it was scary, my grandma horrified me with End of the World & Y2K Bug scares in the news, as computers might read 1/1/1900 instead of 1/1/2000. I was 10 yrs old, worried about everything turning dark & collapsing after countdown. Everything turned out alright ❤️ The best fireworks display from many countries that we’ve seen on television. Now I miss my grandma, and the people gathering & celebrating without getting scared or hurt 🥲
Yes they’ve said it all... the show was BBC’s “2000 TODAY” basically Regine Velasquez was the face of the Philippines during its new millenium celebration.
It was when the world enters the year 2000. Millenium year. Regine is standing in the podium of a 5-star hotel ( The Peninsula Manila)in the middle of financial district of Manila ( Makati). Philippines entry for the presentation all over the world. I have heard she was lifted by helicopter just to stand on the top of that arc.
