The thing that I miss the most about your videos of Japan is the unique aesthetic of the scenery (although I can just rewatch the old videos!). Thailand's natural scenery is still beautiful, just different. The things that I appreciate most about the Thailand videos are your enthusiasm and of course the epic new bikes. Also brief throwback to Bianchi Love at 6:00. Love to see it!
From my perspective, doing something you enjoy and getting to be outside/exercising is so much better than being stuck in meetings or behind a computer 10 hours a day. So I hope you're really enjoying this lifestyle, I know I would.
I cannot agree more. I'm stuck behind computers and for me, seeing them riding is such a relief and inspiration. I'm trying to get into this lifestyle too instead
Congrats on hitting 13m+ views and hope u hit 100k subscribers by Christmas too. Didn’t realize 7-11 was that popular in Asia, really odd given they had filed bankruptcy in USA.
Thanks Frank! I believe 7/11 is a Japanese company now, but they are really popular in Japan, Thailand, Taiwan, and probably some other nearby countries as well.
I started commuting by bike around two months ago in Japan. I have to agree with you about the winter, so cold!!! Coming from tropical weather myself it is quite a challenge. At least I arrive warmed up at my job while everybody is shaking.
The morning is the worst, but I didn't think the nights were too bad. The extra wind in the winter there doesn't help, but the lack of snow makes it rideable most of the time at least.
Honestly, Thailand seems to have rejuvenated you two a bit. Its a beautiful country. Thailand green is REALLY green. And I imagine your digital income probably goes a good bit further in Thailand than Japan.
I’m chuckling over the snow. The 18” we had in this part of Lake Erie was finally starting to melt, but we just got another 4 overnight. Does the weather there tend to be on the humid side year round as well?
I would say the "winter" weather here is pretty similar to the summer weather in Michigan. It gets hot during the day, but it's not that humid (compared to the crazy humidity and heat in the summers)
Cruise, I am happy to hear that you and Thoung are pleased with your move to Thailand. While I couldn't see you in the video, I can see that Thoung has acquired a fit bicycling body. I usually lean down in the summer and fall months here in the US, due to better weather, but you two have good weather almost all year! My favorite snack? I would most likely enjoy any ones with Chocolate. John Shelbyville, Missouri
Thanks John! 😁 We're both getting a lean cycling body now thanks to our increase in riding. It's exciting to see Thuong start to get some calf muscles haha 😂
I always say that once you made the decision you should never go back for revision. You need to always look forward and trust that the decision was a good one, or leads to a good one. I'm happy you guys are not regretting this step and honestly, your videos got much more happy and light-hearted, the last couple videos in Japan were obviously stressed and that showed. This lifestyle fits you guys! I wish all the best and I am looking forward to more to come from you :)
It's good to see you two comfortable and apparently very optimistic about the move, without much tangible regret. Someone once said, basically, living life safely is, umm, not really living, more avoiding. I'm sure I butchered that but who cares. The point is, rock on and get some experiences.
Can't wait for you to come to Vietnam! I am actually an urban planner working on a bike infrastructure system with Asian Development Bank here in Ho Chi Minh city. Would love to have you guys as our testers!
I'm in Chiang Mai too. There's a little restaurant owned by a Japanese lady from Hokkaido called "Smile Kitchen" and it's fantastic! I eat there many times a week! There's also a new Japanese Convenience store with lots of Japanese snacks and a vending machine outside of it with cold Japanese coffee drinks; Its called "Misae Chiang Mai".
Glad to see everything worked out. My company might ship me to Yokkaichi, not far from where you were, if Japan opens up March 1st. We live vicariously through you two, so keep it up!
I would love to see some bike shop tours. Doesn't have to be the fanciest high end shop. Learning about cycling culture in other countries is just very interesting.
Depending how much you miss taiyaki lol, you can get taiyaki pans to make them on a stove. I assume they’re fairly heavy so maybe not the best idea until you’re more settled somewhere.
You can get taiyaki here in Chiang Mai just not in the fish shape but the same fillings. I see them often but at this moment can't think where to tell you to go.
Thailand looks like the country side Japan. It’s beautiful there in Thailand. One question I have, since Japan is so structured and everything has to be done by regulations and allot of “Red Tape”. How does Thailand compare? I’m sure you don’t miss that part of Japan. I remember while in Japan I lost my new cellphone, I remembered where I left it. When I went back to get it from a outdoor food stand. I was surprised I had to fill out paperwork to get it back. But I was grateful to get it back, don’t get me wrong about that. Honestly is a very high virtue in the Japanese culture, as you know.
Thanks nice video & about the Taiyaki Japanese waffle you folks are missing try downstairs of Big C Extra . They have a stand sells filled little waffles with things like Taro, chocolate, raisin etc 😉
Hey guys! I’m planning to visit Chiang Mai in May and want to cycle around but not sure how to start/rent a bike somewhere? Is there a lot of bikes to rent around?
Never visited Thailand, quite familiar with Japan. An immediate similarity I noticed was how close buildings are set back from road in both Japan & Thailand. Quite different in Australia.
Hi from Japan, and yeah because some or many Japanese companies and JICA organisation etc helps to build the urban plannings in ASEAN countries. I hope their cities won't copy the awful sides of Japanese cities, like a narrow roads without the cycle lanes, etc.
Happy Valentine's to you and Cheng san. There are a few things from Japanese culture I like and respect and some i don't. As a nut on volcanoes Japan is definitely an interesting place. Our closest is Iceland just over 1000 miles to the North West of the UK although many of our native peaks were volcanic in origin. I returned home after service with the French military for 12 years and the British Army beforehand for 5 years. I noticed I missed some elements of French culture, cafe's, street food, rolling vineyards and good cheap wine - although now i don't drink alcohol. Drinking chocolate has improved here in the last 5 years but it's still needs work, too sweat and leaves a bitter after taste.
Not the main theme of the video, but I was riding a 46-30 oval with 11-34. Climbs where I live are pretty brutal so I wanted a goat climbing gear and just installed a custom 14-40 cassette. First tests in flat and mountain has been pretty satisfactory. I can keep a more straight chain line. For low-power/high-cadence riders with steep gradients ahead, it's a great option. 105 R7000 derailleur, by the way.
Glad to hear you are happy with your new home in Thailand. Other comments, I like the backpack that Thuong was wearing. It conforms to her physic and doesn't appear to jiggle around. Just noticed that she has a proper set of bar ends, unlike her old bike from Japan. :)
Has the smoke season started? Do you think it’s going to be bad this year? I wanted to visit Chiang Mai at the end of march but just learned of the smoke season! PS: Thuongs’ English is getting so good! Have you picked up Vietnamese yet? lol. I love watching you guys good luck!
@@TwoWheelCruise I used to live near San Sai Hospital/Mae Jo neighborhood (assuming that's where you guys live lol). I missed Japanese foods so much that I moved to Santitham (next to Ninman) ahaha...
I have an unusual favor to ask/question, that *Bianchi* reminded me about my fight to get the color code about a turquoise I love so much. This color is featured on Volume Bikes Voyager V2 bmx frame, that's a signature bike of rider Billy Perry and they named the colorway PerryMint. Volume Bikes is not responding to my question about the color code. I saw a new Bianchi Sprint IRL and the color is very similar to the Voyager's turquoise. I fell in love with the bright, pastel Celeste blue that's featured on the Sprint. Can you help me determine what shade is this light Celeste blue, because the signature Bianchi green is dark. Any help is much appreciated!
The Celeste color has been researched on bike forums for many years with Pantone 332 and Pantone 333 being the most common answers. For 70s/80s era frames the darker shade of 556. Bianchi have used many variations over the years so there is nothing definitive. Also the suffix of M and C are used, ie 332M, 333C, 556C - the M refers to matte, the C to coated/gloss
Thanks for your video! Is there many bicycle shops in Chang Mai? Are they far apart? Are their bicycles shop equipped with high end parts or just standard parts. Thank you
I don't think there's any disrespect to cyclists, but I think a lot of problems come from bad road / infrastructure design leading many people to look for shortcuts.
What are your thoughts about cost of living vs income. It seems that Thailand is much less expensive to live than Japan. Things like rent, food, etc. How does this compare with the US, Canada or Europe where the idea is to raise one's salary to pay higher prices. Do you think the average person is better off in Thailand? Are people more friendly and relaxed vs more polite and formal? If you were to stay or start a business is it more open? Having visited neither country it is interesting to hear of your experiences beyond riding. There is a couple across the street from me who are English and Japanese. We have talked often but I don't know them well.
I commute to work every day and the danger cyclists face everyday is in my opinion the same in most countries (note the word MOST) of course there are countries where people are better behaved when driving,it's really a shame, peace! 🙋♂️🕊🚵♀️
Thailand is totally a cool destination for vacation. I do miss the clean crisp rides of Japan you used to record. You guys should come try Korea sometime. The cycling infrastructure here is just next level. Paths go all through beautiful mountains, Jeju Island, and you can even bike from Seoul to Busan entirely on bike paths. Korea is a little like Denmark in that you just constantly see people doing all kinds of activities by bike. And dare I say the food in Korea is actually better than Japan... Just my opinion (and many others I've spoken to as well).
Korea is awesome! I went there for a race a few years ago (there's some videos on this channel about it). The racing scene and bike infrastructure is definitely better than Japan, and dare I say I agree on the food too 😅 Thuong really wants to go to Jeju since it's one of the few places she can go visa free, so hopefully one day.
@@TwoWheelCruise Please, I implore you to make that trip before the Chinese tourists come back. It's just so pristine, relaxing, clean, and quiet right now for Jeju. Once in a lifetime opportunity. It's really a special time. Nothing against the Chinese, it's just there are so many of them and it's not their country so they tend to litter and are very loud in comparison to Koreans. And you can get the bike stamps all across the Island as you bike around the perimeter along the volcanic rocky coast and it's beaches. It's really fun and beautiful. It would make for some stellar content.
Glad that TWC couple is doing well. Even though I may not have stayed in Japan as long as 7yrs. But I do miss that most pipol queue up. While most Asian countries.. this is not observed 😭.. chi Thoung eating face made me 🤣🤣🤣. So funny. 👍 Good job
Would be interested to hear of a cost breakdown between the two places. Housing/food/electricity etc. I’m kinda of shocked at how much cheaper housing is in JP vs america. As well food is unexpectedly cheaper as long as you don’t want cheese :) Imagine Thailand even cheaper.
We may try to do a cost of living video, but it depends on the quality of life you choose. Generally though it's probably about 50% the cost of Japan if not cheaper.
Every country has a different cultural landscape Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, I like them all If you want to have the flavor of these countries at once come to Taiwan
Honestly speakimg to stay long in Japan expertise requirements if not no matter how your regret to leave .you need to leave if the country don't need you .
Are Thuong's oval chainrings from Absolute Black? I'm curious to hear if she perceives any benefit from the _oval_ shape -- I've heard it's quite minimal, if any.
Yes, Cruise mentioned this upgrade in a recent video. They are Absolute Black brand chainrings. (I'm curious to know her perception, as well.) (edited for punctuation)
How are the quality of roads in Thailand? Are they similar to Japan, worse or better? I lived in southern China for 5 years and although it could get quite cold at night, to me, most of the time it felt like either Spring and then Summer. So basically, a place with only two seasons. At first, I thought it was great, but after a while I began to miss having seasons, and wished it was cooler in the summer and less humid a lot of the time! Haha, I guess, we humans are creatures of habit.
Most of the roads are pretty good or at least good enough. Japanese roads overall are more smooth with less potholes. I have a feeling that I will eventually start to miss true winter the longer we are over here.
How's the pollution in Chiang Mai? I was there 10 years ago and it was... rough. The farmers burn their fields in the dry season. When I was there, they set some kind of record for worst air-quality in history. I heard it's better now though.
There's a reason why Japan is a first world country and Thailand is.... well just like the rest of South asian countries...just hot and humid jungle and cities all the time🤣🤣
