This video actually starts as an excellent example for viewers of things like Olympic diving to understand what a "no splash" looks like. It's really informative to see where People start out and would it actually feel like for a normal person to attempt to hop off these platforms!! Shout out to everybody for doing something pretty scary and conquering those fears and doing a pretty solid job of it!!
When I was in college I took a water safety class and we were learning how to survive if we went into water from a great height. We had to jump from 33 feet up, like this, or we got a 0 on the assignment. This group rocked it!
The fact that you made them jump increasing platforms allowed them to work on technique and nerves along with working up the height. Very well done. Curious how many would've jumped if straight to the 10 meter
I have done scuba diving on shipwrecks, snorkeling and fishshooting, crayfishing, skydiving static line and YET, I have never jumped from the 10meter board and cannot get myself to do it up to this day😂.
My first time wasn't a great feeling. I had a vestibular disorder plus an ear infection, and could barely stand up when I got to the platform. When I jumped I thought, "what am I doing? Why did I do this? This is by far the stupidest thing I've ever done."
Pro divers could dive high as they practiced from lowest to highest stages by stages and got used to the highest. Our fears are the guard to our safety and the right way to tackle the fear is going by levels that takes time and practices, not drastically challenge beyond our norm, otherwise it could harm the nerves and senses. There's a reason why fear exists. Fear does not stop people, it guides.
I was a diver years ago in h.s. the springboard, I was asked to go off the platform once and did jump, but with my heart in my chest. I got out of the water terrified. Seemed like open air space no where to go. That absolutely gave me the major confidence to go back to the spring board and feel safe to try new things. Wasn't afraid of harder dives after that. Lol 😆
MAJOR Props To The WONDERFUL LADIES! WOW! Your All Wonder Women! Brave! Good For YOU. I Am So Happy To See You Ladies Do That. I Guarantee You WILL Look Back In Time When YOUR OLDER & Tell All Of YOUR Grand Kids Look At What Grand Ma Did! Bravo! Bravo!
I used to be a member of a diving club. I'm 68 and getting a bit old but can still perform simple dives and falls. I've just learned about your channel so I'm off on a binge. I loved the video and I'm wanting more. I'm hoping to see volunteers learn a reverse dead man's fall from the 3 meter platform, or pike and tuck dives off the 1 and 3 meter spring boards. It's such a good sport at this level of participation. A real challenge for the self rather than competition against others. Brilliant!
I remember I was once in a cannonball competition at a local pool, and it was only like 3 meters up. Because I was not nearly as big as some of the other people I decided to risk it and do a belly flop. My stomach was red for a while after that.
I've watched this channel for a day and I've already decided to join my local diving club! I was really good at trampoline clubs as a kid. so you've given me the motivation to join my diving club! Thanks from England 🏴 🇷🇺
@@watermagic_fun the first session was really good. Dove from the 1, 3 and 5 metre without a bruise for the first time! 😁.. Keep up the good work, your videos are amazing!
The anxiety and the feeling of my gut just watching this was intense. Been a very long time since I jumped a 10m platform. I would literally s h i t myself these days😂
I've jumped off those cliffs into the ocean before. I think the place I went was about 8-9m. It was cool to do just so I could say I've done it, but overall was a bad experience. It's so hard to stop the water getting in your nose or ears, I had a really bad headache afterwards. The adrenaline when you're in the air is fun tho. Just a rough landing. Props to these guys for doing 10m. It's a lot harder than you think!
Nice work, as always, Jim! I really love your vids. As someone who is very afraid of heights, I never could picture myself diving. However, the more I watch of your channel, the more I want to learn diving and conquer my fear.
You should do it! I am/was afraid of heights and took up diving (more springboard than platform) as an adult just to see if I could do it, and I still remember the first time I got back to the edge of the pool and realized that I did a full run, jump, dive without even thinking! I'm actually still afraid of things like balconies on tall buildings but jumping deliberately from the board feels like I'm in control. (Also wearing swim leggings and a swim shirt and a nose clip, not the most elegant but it takes the sting out of minor smacks.)
I'm really impressed! I'm not sure I could jump from 3 metres 😀 It's also amazing how subtle changes in angle have such a big effect on landing - something to think about when you see competitors twisting and turning on the way down!
I used to swim at a pool that had one of these and after you manage to do it once you keep running back up to do it again and again, it's really great fun!
At first, i was thinking 'oh, like the high dive, I used to do that all the time!' But by the time they reach the top, I'm low key freaking out because that is definitly higher than the high dive!
My favorite part of the whole thing was hearing great Russian name after Russian name and then…Denis. I love it. PS I loved the whole video. I want to jump off the 10 meter platform!!
I was a good swimmer and a surfer when I was a young guy. Lots of time in the ocean, but I could never, ever jump off of a platform. Hats off to these folks.
I've jumped off cliffs over 15 meters high, and for some reason it feels a lot less scary than diving off a 10 meter olympic diving platform. There's something about looking down at that pool, where it just looks so tiny and unwelcoming a target. Hilarious, because all the rocks that could be under the cliff landing are of course more dangerous, it just doesn't feel that way.
That’s such an awesome experiment!! 🥰 I’m so proud of everyone. I used to cliff dive with friends as kids, but it’s been probably 20 years since I have. My highest was 15 meters, and that was absolutely terrifying. lol. Super fun, though. 💪🏻
I was super impressed by Anna! She could've easily bowed out of the competition, but she chose to come back strong from the highest height. That took a lot of courage.
@@itslongford the local ones I go to you’re allowed to do them as long if it’s in the deep end, it’s the back flips that they don’t allow you to do tho
When I was young, around 10, there was a local pool that had a 10m platform. I learned to jump off of it and even take a few straight dives. I one time decided... I'm going to do this, I'm going to flip! I got 3/4 of the way around and then splatted on my back. It hurt. Sucked the wind out of me. Decided I'd never try that again! So I played sharks and minnows instead. I had some good lung power. Now that I'm older, I wonder if I could do the 10m.
I remember how scared I was when I jumped from a 7m when I was 10(i was screaming the whole way down lol) its been 2 yrs since that dive and this makes me want to try a 10m although I'd probably be scared af when im on top of the diving board.
I'm thinking that you're probably a good teacher, so most if not all people will jump eventually. Let's watch. Right on man. Like I said, you're a great teacher.
This may be an odd comment, but I’ve never seen anyone that looked anything like this group. Like a lot of people actually look somewhat similar. Everyone in this video has a complete and totally unique look to them
Nice video, it would be nice to compare the results of this experiment with what would happen if every participant was diving with just you watching him, and no one else
@@watermagic_fun similar to this its okay and fun to watch..but if can try to interview more each person and put english subs if the ycant speak english :) really want to hear their thoughts aslo..
I'm so much scared of heights i got dizzy and unconfortable in my stomach just from watching these people standing on the platform. No joke! Once i saw a documentary about roofing, an activity in which mostly young people and young adults climb high structures or buildings unsecured in order to photograph or film themselves there. I almost passed out just from watching.
Before I start watching I predict with 100% certainty the Military Pensioner will succeed! Ok finished. Excellent job everyone! Much higher % than I expected. I would be interested to see success rate if you took them by themselves (no immediate peer pressure of the others watching).
I was surprised the advice to keep hands raised- the biggest slaps often are from leaning back or on the bottoms of the arms entering the water waving. Safer entry is arms on the sides but that does require good balance which gets increasingly more difficult the higher the jump. Also there is a huge difference between jumping and diving above 7 meters. I used to regularly dive 3-7 meters and occasionally 10 but then I once dove from 20 meters... ouch. You have to be nearly perfect entering the water and I was maybe 1 inch not square in my shoulders/hands and really hurt my shoulder and had a slight concussion from my hands not fully covering my head. Last summer I dove from 12 meters after not having practiced for a few years and the first dive was perfect and I got too confident and went for twists on the 2nd... that was painful.
