I am a master gardener now for ten years and work with orchids all the time. They say no matter your age you can always learn something and today I learned about the tannic acid and the black tea. Never knew this. Thank you so much Michael. I enjoyed your video very much.

Hi, I'm Italian, can you help me? How long should the roots stay in the black tea? In semi-hydroponics, water should be added only to the bottom or also to the top?

I saw this video last spring during our lockdown and knew I had plenty of time to devote to it. Lost flowers, stem and even some roots, because I didn't Know how to take proper care of it. With your instructions my poor little plant developed new leaves, a stem AND elegant blossoms! I can't thank you enough for all your expertise and wisdom! I'm now nursing a second orchid that someone else was ready to throw out, but I have all the faith in the world now that she'll come around too! YOU ARE A STAR! XOXO

@kalinystazvoruna8702
@kalinystazvoruna8702 3 года назад
@@rizasantri6546 I have the plants sitting in a medium that was originally intended for an aquaponics setup that ended up being a failed experiment. (ha ha! I have lot of those around my house.) Basically, if I get a new plant that is potted in moss, the first thing I do is get rid of the moss. Orchids are basically air plants that originated in tropical climates and many times they cling to the bark of a tree so reproducing that as closely as possible is the best way to go. I used to get special orchid potting mix from the big box stores, but since I started using the growing medium meant for aquaponics (I had about 40 lbs of the stuff and I recycle everything), I potted up the old orchids in the new medium after getting rid of the dead roots. This is usually done after they have finished flowering. Then I sit them on a saucer that contains the same aquaponic grow medium, which is basically marble-sized balls of clay. As far as watering, I have many other edible tropical plants and trees (like Avocado, lime, orange, olive, fig and a pepper vine that will eventually give me the kind of pepper you put on food) in my living room whose windows face south. When I check them to see if they need water, about once a week, I also take a good look at the orchids to see if they need watering or just misting. Now that it's getting warm, and they've started flowering, I tend to mist them frequently (usually when I remember, but since they're all sitting in my living room, they're not hard to miss). Occasionally, when I think of it, I'll add some very diluted liquid fertilizer to the spray bottle. As you can tell, I'm not prone to doing things on a tight schedule. Winter is trickier because the house gets warm and all the plants (and people too!_ need water in the atmosphere. I have started putting some containers of water under the tables that hold the plants so it evaporates into the atmosphere and I find that has helped considerably. Anyhow... try phalaenopis (moth) orchids. They're the easiest to grow. Good luck! :)

Eternally grateful I found you and your valueable videos! I have a phalaenopsis Ive had for 3 years. I'm a total orchid novice and haven't killed her yet. Thought I'd give this procedure a try. I removed the original flower stalks that each had 3-5 leaves and tossed them in the trash. More about that in a bit. My poor orchid had a HUGE plug beneath her and only about 3 viable roots. No idea how she was still alive! I sure hope she can make some more roots. If she does it's all due to you😊 So I was hooked on watching orchid videos and kept thinking about the stalks sitting in the trashcan. After some Googling I discovered I had thrown out 2 keikis!!!!! Those weird green off shoots were aerial roots!!! At about 1 am I fished them out, apologized, and trimmed the ends and put them in some distilled H2O. Later today I will try potting them up. They have been growing on the end of the flower stalks for over a year so hopefully they will survive! Whew! I went from one orchid to three in one swoop!

Hi 😊 have you googled anything about your orchids? This may explain why this video was on your feed.

Oh yes, orchids will live years and years if well cared for. I buy them from grocery stores and places like that when they stop blooming for $1 and then rehab them and give them out as gifts. I have about 20 right now and I absolutely love them! It's not all that hard to get them to bloom again either.

That's uncanny - samesies here! I noticed today that one of my orchids has "weird" leaves, now I know it is dried out and what to do about it!

I wondered the same thing, been having a sad orchid in my room for a couple of years, not knowing what to do with it

This is so timely as I had been able to enjoy my orchids for many years until suddenly one after the other, they started to lose vitality and just dried up😢 I’m going to start on saving my orchids, thank you 🙏

This worked like a charm for me on two miserable rescue orchids, and one is putting out a flower spike right now!

Pam Ela; "Rescue" orchid. I love that term! I have 3 that need rescuing and feeling guilty for neglecting them; for after all, they're living things. Do you know what he used for the repotting phase? Thank you.
