What makes a lie more believable is having a part of the truth within it. Reigen lied about having powers, but the lessons he taught mob were very real.
reigen isnt a psychic but he helps people in a mundane but real way when they believe that only psycic powers can help. which proves the message of the entire show.
@@thesatelliteslickers907 What's more Reigen has been teaching Mob the reality of life that being honest to yourself and friends is the way to go. His initial lie is what made them become friends. Their friendship bloom afterward because of their bonds and his genuine kindness. Shigeo is waiting for Reigen to admit his initial lie so that they can fully accept their bond without anything holding them back. Reigen admitted all the bad in him and how he is grateful for Mob's kindness and patience to wait for him to do so. Confession, as the name of the episode is really about the two of them and Mob accepting himself.
So your telling me... That the man that singlehandedly beat all of the 8th Division of claw including the leader with a single hand, Beat the Ultimate 5 member Ryo Shimazaki in a single "Self Defence Rush", parkoured in the middle of a tornado and survived, AND knew 4 whole ways on how to beat toichiro after looking at him for like 3 seconds (4 Whole Ways !!) Is not an esper? Come on bro. Reigen really needs to get ahold of his lying problem man. 😞
We need to have a death battle between Reigen and King (from One Punch Man). Seeing as though Reigen worked out to survive and make it through this storm, he might have the upper hand. However, King might have even greater luck than him.
@@scottvgamer1163Well depends on the rules but considering that King’s trump card is Saitama or another hero he could win but if they don’t allow help then Reigen wins
@@swarbhanubanerjee8151 I’ve read hundreds of fantasy and contemporary historical novels. I’ve seen hundreds of movies thatre made to be character studies, and probably as many shows with amazing characters as well. Reigen is easily in the top 3, he’s extremely complex and relatable whilst also being one of the most entertaining and human characters I’ve ever seen.
Yes, I agree I honestly did not expect he'd climb down from his high horse and tell mob the truth. Well don't really see characters like him often whom is made to be flawed, yet his bs is acknowledged. I was taken aback how wonderfully this character is crafted. It's somehow the first time an author would put one of the main characters through that much humiliation all the while sht is going through well in the story. Honestly thought when he and mob had that argument in s2, mob would finally cut raegen off from his life. And of course that would be highly reasonable. But my how the turns have tables. Love how the author made him vulnerable at this moment, putting his dignity at line for finally he wanted mob to really see him for who he is, not just acknowledge it but say it out loud for he's not afraid anymore, may yet he had accepted that part of him. He wanted mob to realize that we are but yen and yang you cannot cast out either for it is the embodiment of who we truly are, so instead of fighting and denying the existence of that ugly side, it would be much easier to accept it and thus grant us freedom from the conflict that's been brewing deep inside. With that we can become whole. Oh my, sorry for the Ted talk. But I just love the author for this and reigen as a character.
That’s the beauty of this show. They didn’t need some major bad guy or some great evil to be the final fight. If other anime’s tried to end like mob psycho 100 did nowadays it would be very awkward. What made this ending work for this show was that everything mob and his friends has been built up since the beginning of season 1. The creators of the show didn’t make it feel that those moments that built up to the series finale were awkward or forced. They were able to make it fit perfectly. To end back to my first point. Mob Pyscho 100 definitely taught a good lesson about accepting yourself and that the greatest villain isn’t some world dominator but rather the fear of not being able to accept yourself.
Spoilers for opm. I Wish they kept this Spirit in other stories from One, sadly the message was Lost to make the fight look cooler in opm. Next season I mean.
another subtle thing i like about this scene is that it's not like shigeo (form/???) was repressed and mob regained control once again. you can tell in the shots where it cuts to mob in his subconscious, their expressions are wildly different. right here, the same shigeo kageyama who had rampaged through the city utterly shuts down when reigen tells him the truth. he already knew for years that reigen had no actual powers, but the way he saw it, reigen was hiding the truth from him because he thought mob was naive and ignorant, and if he did tell him, he could no longer use him for his own gain. this idea was repressed but nonetheless had still been eating away at him for all this time. hearing reigen admit the truth directly to him, humbling himself and exposing his flawed nature made shigeo kageyama/mob realize that reigen actually does have genuine respect for him, and that the only reason he never told him the truth was because he was afraid to ruin the bond that they shared by revealing his true self. but to the most flawed albeit genuine side of mob, that humble affirmation was all that he needed.
Well.. reigen kind of helped mob become who he is now (even lying to him at first he made him go the right way and ended up learning a lot and also becoming someone even more amazing)
Both of them are. Mob is a really kind person. That's why people around him who was the most problematic tries to changed. Teru admired Mob's selflessness. Mogami accepted Mob's resolve and was able to move on knowing Mob is kind hearted and determined. Suzuki understood Mob's sacrifices as the one with the most powers. Dimple is grateful of Mob's acceptance and their friendship. And lastly Reigen, owes it to Mob's bravery to be real and to ask for his help when he thinks he has no purpose.
One of the best written characters in anime, imagine a show about ultra powerful psychics and spirits that can level a city and a regular human with maxed out charisma stat is the one that always steals the show
@@Mark-tq7bf she is, shes far better of a friend than almost anyone i can think of. She sat and waited for Mob even though a FUCKING TORNADO was coming just because Mob's voice was shaky
@@jaoofy To be honest it was only because she wanted to reject him. I don't think she is a friend if all her interactions with Mob are either saying he is shit, looking down upon while hidden like she was some kind of superior goddess, and feeling unconfortable/not being for him never when he had problems. Teru is a better friend in only 1 year than Tsubomi in all the lore. Wtf are you talking about?
@@Mark-tq7bf Yeah but you have to pay attention to her character. When she's rejecting all those other people, she was extremely blunt, going as far as saying "Do I really have to tell you the reason." However her rejection of Mob was very polite, even including a "yet" in there. Plus she continues to talk to him as a friend. Even though she knew she was going to be rejecting Mob, she valued him enough as a friend to sit through a tornado waiting for him to show up, so that he could ask her out in person. Tsubomi doesn't owe Mob romantic feelings, but she is a great friend nonetheless.
Everyone is doting on Reigen's VA, but Mob's season 1 and 2 VA needs praise too - listening to the English Mob and Japanese Mob is like listening to the exact same person speaking different languages. Not so sure about season 3's replacement since I haven't gotten to hear much English dub yet beyond clips - Hulu only had subs :(
Honestly, while I wouldn’t say it’s better than season 1 and 2, I actually think season 3 Mob sounds pretty good. I actually found it pretty easy to get used to despite the difference in VAs being very obvious.
This was the scene that convinced me Mob Psycho 100 was my new favorite anime of all time. God, this scene is so cathartic and both the Japanese and English VAs gave it their ALL.
I like Reigen Arataka! Psychic power or not & he maybe a con artist, but he's a great man & what I care about is the good deeds he did. Because he's Mob's mentor/master, he gives good advice to his student, Mob. Reigen's like a father figure to Mob. He's a really nice, caring, and kind guy. He's nice to Mob, he supports him, and respects him as well. On Season 1, I like how Reigen just told Mob, "You're the protagonist of your own life." I also like how he says to Mob, "When things go south, it's okay to run away and save yourself." Then, what happened Mob transferred his psychic power to his master Reigen, which was temporary. It was showing from 100% to 1000% - Gratitude. That was awesome! On Season 2, I like when he said, "You've grown so much, you know?" I also like how Mob said to Reigen, "I find out that my master is genuinely a good guy." That made me cry! Now on season 3, I like how he told him, "You're fine just as you are... All you have to do is accept yourself, that's it. So don't worry, I know this is something you'll be able to handle easily. Because you're Mob!" That was so sweet & beautiful. That made me cry. Their relationship is precious & wholesome.🥺😭🥲 I also like how Reigen uses his special techniques throughout the series. That was cool & funny at the same time.😃❤️
Super late to the party, but im so thankful the anime did this scene such incredible justice. Imo, Mob Psycho 100 is probably the greatest anime of this current generation of shows, same with the manga. Thanks so much to One for making such a remarkable thing for us all to enjoy (and cry) at. ❤
It's a shame that not a lot of people are going to know about the anime character, the great and cunning Reigen Arataka. There aren't many out there truly like him. And if there are let's have a thread about it.
He’s easily one of the dub’s highlights, although I do think other characters sound great in dub as well. Even if it’s just from clips on RU-vid (there’s one video with over a million views about Reigen “carrying” the dub that I recommend), I think the dub is worth checking out. Just a heads up, though, Mob’s VA got replaced for season 3.
@@primaloftheabyss3139 wasn’t trying to say that. Just wanted to point it out in case they were wondering about why he sounded different. Personally, while still prefer his voice in season 1 and 2, I think his new VA did a great job overall. I got used to it pretty fast despite the change being obvious.
@@bruha594 no but what they’re saying makes sense. everyone naturally thinks a language they understand has more raw emotion since they can actually comprehend what they’re saying
When mob stared having his inner dialog with himself I wasn't a fan of how they were seemingly going with the split personality route. But then they tied it all together in a very satisfying moment right here
He did know, but there's a big difference between subtly noticing someone's lies and going along with them, versus having those lies addressed directly by the person who told them.
This shit hits different for people on the autism spectrum. Cause there’s always gonna be parts of yourself that you hate, and there’s always gonna be sides to you that you want to mask from other people to make yourself more palatable. But everyone has hidden parts to themselves, and what’s important isn’t to ignore them or push them away, but to accept them- even the ugly parts.
I think what was great about mob psycho is that each and every season had like a different feel to it season 3 was more like a slice of life while season 2 was more like an action hero vs bad guy anime
Lesson i learned from yuji: you don't have to be strong to make a change. Lesson I learned from reigen: powers or not you are special just by being you
I'm glad I can watch this without thinking about all the VAs being replaced (most of the new ones are acceptable) the change took me out from watching S3's Dub
Imagine if Kirito from Sword Art Online 2 & Shinra Kusakabe of The Fire Force to be on the same anime tv show to look exactly similar between these 2 men.
Wait i thought Mob knew In season 2 when he had that whole media ordeal, Mob shook the building for him, and i thought it was because he k ew Regen couldnt prove he had powers cuz he was a normal
Mob did know, but the important bit here is that ??? (Mob’s hidden side) believes that reigan would keep that fact a secret to keep using him. So having reigan just admit it shocks ??? enough to calm down.
My favorite piece of fiction of all time is one piece. But I will say this for short great stories this is the best anime I’ve ever seen, it’s fun, deep, and has an amazing message/ ending. I would say this should be #1 on mal.
its such a shame they dropped mob's va in the third season, the first episode of the last season was jarring, they couldn't have stucked with the original vas for the last season? jeeze...
@@helsmify it’s rather the fact that the one showing those emotions isn’t necessarily mob. that’s shigeo being shocked because he’s deemed reigen a lier his entire existence, and for reigen to actually straight up admit it shocked him since that’s everything he’s been trying to suppress
@@helsmify I think only a part of mob knew or even thought about reigen lying to him, that's a thought he discarded, in the same way he discarded his powers and a lot of his emotions in a repressed part of him and indeed that repressed part of him is ???%, the one that was trying to take complete control from episode 10's start until reigen taught both '???' or 'shigeo kageya' and 'MOB' or 'mob' a very important lesson.
A lot of dubs sound goofy but the choices pretty much are up to par with how they’d sound if they spoke English. I still prefer subs but they don’t work for everyone :)
@@Playernotfound-404Yeah, good ending if you ignore the fact that the entire city got destroyed and Mob’s rampage was only stopped right at the end of it. Lmao.
Man I missed dub Reigen so much. I switched to sub for season 3 and rewatches because of the jarring cast changes. It’s basically the only flaw of this anime to me.
Reigen's Japanese VA sounds more vulnerable and emotional, which makes it more satisfying since all Mob wanted to see was Reiegen being 100% truthful to him so all of Mob's doubts about his relationship with Reigen will be erased.
