I keep pausing just to drink in the front view of that Jensen. Four round front lights, as so hornily rocked by the Interceptor, various Triumphs, the Rover P6 and pre-1990s BMWs definitely need to make a come-back.

What you said about the slight dimensional changes making big differences reminds me of when Lotus redesigned the Esprit in like 88. IIRC, no dimension changed from the previous car by moree than 1 inch and it was a much more modern design.

Since you were talking about the challenges of mounting a vehicle to a rotisserie. I would love some info or thoughts on how to mount a Range Rover Classic on a rotisserie. I would also love to see more about the Nats Range Rover Classic. Maybe a weekly or monthly update!? Might be a good excuse to make more progress if you have to give updates 😉.
@RetropowerNat
@RetropowerNat 4 месяца назад
When I blasted and zinc sprayed the shell on mine I bolted the front rotisserie mount to the bulkhead body mounts, and the rear to the lower tailgate opening via the lower tailgate hinges and the rear lamp apertures. I made the front inner wings bolt-on like earlier ones so they weren’t in the way. I can do a little update on the rangey in next couple of weeks. Progress is so slow that a regular update wouldn’t show much 😂
@russcooke5671

Because of the size and weight of the Range Rover shell you could use a ratchet style pulley system a bit like roller shutters so you can spin it slowly and caster on the bottom to move it slowly I think. Not an engineer or mechanic.

Hey dudes, I used to work in car audio. For quite a well known and prestigious company. If you can get yourself a “sine sweep” audio track it will help identify rattles, not just from the subwoofer but from all the other parts of the car. If you included that in your q.c it would help find rattles pretty quickly. Really respect the work you do. ❤

Amazing work as always. I look forward to seeing what the gang is up to every Sunday night! A question for Nat, regarding CFRP bonding to steel bodyshells: Can you elaborate on the order of operation of blasting, zinc metal spray, epoxy, raptor, and bonding? I'm under the impression that the structural adhesive needs to bond to freshly abraded steel and it seems a recipe for corrosion issues. Is it simply a matter of ensuring full coverage of the steel flanges with the structural adhesive or is there some post process for sealing the joints? Maybe a tangent worthy of an AutoFocus episode!

Looking forward to seeing the Scimitar design taking shape. I’ve had a P1800S that I “restomoded” in the 80’s and been toying with the idea of doing an ES - then what do I see on George’s laptop ? I have always thought the Scimitar and Volvo had a lot of styling in common. P1800ES would be a lot of fun with a Duratec or a grunty V6 under the bonnet. A friend of mine had one back in the 90s and it always turned heads. A bit of restyling, improved suspension and better power train would make it into something quite special and a lot of fun to drive. Alas, I do not have the funds. 😢

Wow! When I was a teen living in California my mothers boyfriend who was a road manager for a band had a Jensen Interceptor. It had that dark purple/black/brown/blue/green color shifting paint. Wheels were polished bright and the interior was black leather and suede. Only problem was it never ran well. Always wondered what happened to that car.

With Marc touching all the pieces in the spray booth won't the natural grease on his hands contaminate the surface and cause issues further down the line ? Unless building a racing car why do owners go to the expense of carbon fiber, no one sees it.

Jag you already know that using CF to replace the steel upper panels does improve the centre of gravity when cornering. Subsequently I guess most of the customers at “this level of investment” can obviously afford to have the ultimate level of perfection whenever they like!

Hi Retropower, I have a question about the Interceptor, what do you think will it weigh at the end, the Dodge Challenger 392 SRT8 comes in at 1892 kg, which makes it heavier than my M5 F10 manual (1855 kg) just for me to have a reference. Two of the shortcomings of the stock Interceptor were the live axle and the automatic gearbox, great you went for IRS but did the owner never consider a manual conversion, which would have been very easy as the Dodge Challenger 392 SRT8 was available with a 6-speed box? And lastly, that's purely my personal taste, would it have been possible to redesign the rear deck as I never like the "glas house" and going for a more Fastback-design? By the weigh how much weighs the rear glas? I don't like the rear, but for me the front is absoluty gorgeous. Thanks in advance, keep those videos coming.

Yes, the owner will be paying for the fixtures. Bear in mind that only the towers are unique, the rest of the parts are Celette and we already have them, I have them in cad to make the layout easier. The overall cost of making the fixtures will be similar to a very short term hire of them from Celette, so it’s a no-brainer to make them. Of course if the customer wants them when we are done then he’s welcome to them. They would be quite valuable!

Yes, that scimitar redesign doesn’t really work for me either. The rear quarter glass looks too big and heavy, makes the car look like it’s sat on its arse. Needs the lower profile of the glass to be more upswept in keeping with the original design and it would work better, part of the original cars good design in my opinion, and not really cohesive with the front of the car.

It’s so great to see carbon parts worth the name. Using carbon laminate structurally correct and actually saving weight by doing so. I’m so tired of seeing carbon design add on‘s that will most likely add weight and just a fake carbon look to the cars… 🤦‍♂🤦‍♂
@JDStoneCreations
@JDStoneCreations 4 месяца назад
That isn’t a Scimitar design anymore. If you think “design reimagined” you think Singer 911, where they kept what makes the design great and enhance it… This doesn’t do that. It’s completely ignored what Tom Karen loved about it, the rising waistline from the centre of the car backwards and the roof/tail flick. This has a lowering waistline that makes it look lazy, then widening it and lowering the roof line makes it look flat and with a lack of purpose, as does the shape change of the rear side window. It’s now left the C pillar and rear hatch looking like an afterthought rather than a feature of its design being the first sporting estate. Now, put back in the side window and you reintroduce a forward stance to the rear of the car, that also matches the angle of the trailing edge of the rear wheel arch, as well as the angle put on the vent by the rear light. Not that anyone will care or agree. Ah well.
