This is the first video of my Great Guitar Build Off 2022 series. Its a brief intro message and a talk through of my plan for my GGBO 2022 guitar build.
Thanks to everyone that has continued to watch and support my builds and thanks in advance for your comments.
This year I will be making an SG style guitar in Niangon with a multi laminate neck, zebrawood fretboard, string through body and two humbuckers. Hopefully the first build video will be coming soon (depending on the Crimson Guitars GGBO announcement!)

Couldn't agree with you more about that terrifying first (and 2nd and 3rd) video! But you are absolutely right about the great, helpful community here too - I started my channel last year, and their support was incredible. So, to all new to YT: don't be put off by having to record; bite the bullet, maybe start with just voice-over as suggested here and go for it. It's definitely worth it!

Dude! Thanks so much for the shoutout this just made my year so far! i cant wait to watch your build for the GGBO! also you're a natural at the talking to the camera, it does feel weird but you didnt make it look like it felt weird. anyway thanks again! 👊

Also I thought it might be useful to get something out early ahead of the hundreds of others and maybe pick up some views and subs. Might be an idea for you too?… as another small channel 🤔… just a thought, can’t hurt.

That's some really good advice/feedback. I'm not comfortable in front of the camera. I've done a couple of voice overs. It's useful to know people appreciate hearing what we're doing and why

Glad it was of some use! And yes I don’t think many of us are comfortable in front of the camera but hearing why someone has chose something or doing something a certain way is always interesting, particularly if it’s different to the norm!👍

I love the Yamaha Revstar so it's a great place to take inspiration from. It is very weird at first speaking to a camera, but now I can just turn it on and start wittering on. Whether it's coherent or not is another matter :) Looking forward to seeing how this progresses.

With my accent i thought most people wouldn't watch cause they wouldn't catch what i'm saying and sometimes i try to talk slower and more concise then other times i forget and just talk kinda normally, but have got MORE subs as i went along and not LESS and a lot are Americans which is always good to know that they like what i'm doing and can still know what i'm saying ... lol

Finally the reimagined SG! Can't wait for the build! And thank you for the mention! Also, yeah, talking to a camera for the first time is difficult for everyone... The first time I record half an hour pf footage and end up redoing the next day because it was horrible 🤣

I like your alternative SG. Working on an SG for my daughter, but it will the standard with a gold burst. I have entered the GGBO this year for the first time and hope that I can look as relaxed and calm and professional as you. Good luck, and thanks for sharing!

It was GGBO 2020 that introduced me to the idea of building guitars as a creative outlet. The two rounds thus far have blown me away with the number of incredibly talented, creative, and dedicated folks who have participated. Better yet, a large number have taken to taking the time to share their insights, tips, and "how to" knowledge. which has been amazing. I'm looking forward to this year's version, not for the competition as much as for the ideas and passion that will no doubt emerge in the submissions. Good luck with your buiild!

Thanks for this, it’s nice to get some noob encouragement! I shall definitely be entering this year as an excuse to have a go a building an instrument; something I’ve wanted to try for many years. I have found yours, and many others channels as inspiring as I’ve found informative. As for your build, i look forward to this immensely. Love the shape and the idea, it also reminded me a little of those double cut Gretsch jets ala Mal Young

Love the shape for this reimagined SG, I rekon spray it black & chuck in a set of fishman fluence, and some heavy strings, no? This coming from the guy that got you to make a heavy metal reimagined Tele so take that with a fist full of salt 😅! Joking aside I live the attention to detail with wood selections and making them match perfectly, and I can say as a proud owner of a tornelli myself that I'm sure this will be amazing when it's done!

Great video and pretty much what I needed to hear. The video requirement is what kept me out of it last year. I'm planning on entering this year and probably just doing a voice over my video. I'm just waiting for the official announcement before I start. I already have big plans that I hope don't implode on me.

Glad the Great Build Off attracts many luthiers willing to give it a go in public on RU-vid. I really like your SG style mash up idea, but please rethink painting that beautiful mahogany. Perhaps, a matte stain instead? Looking forward to following your progress.

Lol those first vids are a bit rambling I found, did a few retakes but I'm on a roll now. 2 videos in for GGBO and a slide show for my previous build. Funny thing regarding how you sound on video, I point out to people that's exactly how everyone else hears you and has been hearing you for years! Kinda freaky at first lol Anyway regarding last year, was it you that did the melamine lacquer vid on the tele guitar? Cheers

Just getting started myself... not ready for a full build yet, my channel still has learning woodworking techniques 😉 wanted to get in on this year's build but next year may be more reasonable... thanks for getting on and sharing with us... I know the first ones are terrifying... you have a better speaking presence than I do! 😊😇

If you are using that mahogany, I would not paint it. That's lovely stuff; if you could swing it, the red transparent color used on an SG would work, or any other transparent color that keeps that lovely grain in view!

La chitarra della scorsa edizione era molto bella complimenti e credo che verrà molto bene anche questa. Per quest anno ho deciso di fare un basso semiacustico.... non l'ho mai fatto prima, vediamo che ne esce fuori. Felice di vedere che gli italiani ci sono e insistono anche se siamo ancora in pochi nel GGBO. Buon concorso e in bocca la lupo.

Hi. This is the first time I've commented on any RU-vid video. You seem to be the kind of person I'd like to know and your instruments are beautiful. I built about a dozen guitars from the early 90s to 2005, when I moved and lost space to work. During that interval, it was difficult to meet and talk with other builders. I've recently been able to get back into building, finishing some undone projects, and am starting a new guitar, ironically a neck-through SG styled instrument. I had considered and quickly dismissed the notion of recording myself during the build, thinking, "who would want to watch me?" but your post here has made me give it more thought. Thanks. When i started i wasn't even expecting to get into double figures for subs and now i'm chasing 100 subs and hoping to get there before the start of GGBO ... we'll see how it goes. Like the shape ... but that's a hanger or a guiatr stand for sure .... that's not going to sit up on it's own ... lol Looking forward to watching it come together and nice choice of woods on the neck too and should look quite elegant once it's all carved 👍

@@TornelliGuitars Oh thank you very much. Yeah I'm hoping to join the GGBO community this year. Just waiting on news from Ben. I was sure I'd be ready last year but got caught out when it was announced so early in the year. I think he's aware of that and wants to move it to warmer months. That suits me as I mainly work from a shed. But do have time in a small workshop I volunteer for once a week. Sooo looking forward to it!

@@TornelliGuitars you know, last year's March I enrolled in GGBO kit competition but because of luck of ability to receive kit in Russia from Crimson guitar (DHL refuse to deliver) I could receive it only in August when I had short visit there. In Finland I bought some pieces of wood for body and neck. So I am, as novice, waiting for GGBO will start. I am going to build tele, maybe even 3 tele in same time with interchangeable neck and bodies. I'd like to do it. I assume. I hope it will enable me to get some experience in guitar building. Anyway, we'll see. I also have problem with fluent oral skills in English.😭 Video scenarios will be time consuming.

I started my channel this year in hopes of doing my first build which probably won’t happen this year but when I started I was going through treatments for cancer on my vocal chord and I have no voice above a whisper. My son added some background music which made my videos better but I still have no voice and I don’t know when I will get it back. Hopefully I can get back to my job soon so I can put together some money to do a build and at least join the community build. Any support you can give me would be appreciated.
