Reindog is (so far) the only original playable character in the game, and I think I get why they made him. He is made to showcase support type characters. That's actually important, because the concept of a support type character embody the emphasis on the co-op multiplayer aspect of the game which separates it from other fighters. The game is really designed around multiplayer in ways that others just aren't, and having a character whose specialty is aiding allies really drives that concept home. It only makes sense that the stand-in showcase for this character archetype would be a completely original character, so that people's biases of the character wouldn't affect their opinion of the concept of a support type character. It's actually a stroke of genius.

I can almost imagine there going the route where Reindog is a cute character but with a back story revealing he's has the power of the entire multiverse within himself. And what does he decide to do with such power, power that in the wrong hands could end all of existence as we know it! He travels the multiverse to make a bunch of new friends. 😊

Reindog's world was apparently destroyed by something called the Nothingness in a dimensional cataclysm and that he's the last of his kind. Learning with Pibby also has a glitch that destroys other worlds, turning them into nothingness. Both Multiversus and Pibby were made by Warner Bros. Coincidence?.

The Nothing actually originates from The Neverending Story, a book-turned-movie that predates all of this by decades. But I will note that if Learning With Pibby gets greenlit, she's an absolute shoo-in!

Geez it's been a while; I forgot Reindog didn't always have the dance victory animation. I think I remember them standing still atvthe ens but not them using the tail wag taunt as a victory animation. I definitely remember the lack of a loss animation though. Also Reindog has been silent for so long. It's gonna sound weird at first when we finally have his vocal sounds added to the game.

I dont think so, I think the nothing is going to be the main "villain" of multiversus in its story mode. So the reason why reindog isn't from any particular universe is because his home dimension was wiped out by the nothing, meaning nobody knows or remembers what he's supposed to be from. It's a cool in universe reason for him being an OC

I hope his animations get tuned up before the final release. They feel SUPER clunky and lifeless right now. Going to assume they couldn’t clean him up much before the closed alpha started.

And he’s repeating that same tail wagging with tongue out animation a little too much Though maybe he’s not as finished as the other fighters, so maybe he just has lots of placeholders to keep him playable, similar to Skullgirls with the sketched fighters

@@akirbyobsessee7396 Yeh, I also heard he has a voice actor, so he may get voice lines on a later build I think they left him for last because leaving anyone else like Reindog would actually rub the wrong way, since he’s a brand new character, no one really has any major expectations on how he should look like and behave, so they can peacefully finish him later

If You didn't notice he have more support moves but Master of Hyrule didn't put them. One of them is the down special fire that makes your team projectiles do burn damage then the neutral special gives your teammate the ability to do electric damage.

Not when Reindog is ridiculously overpowered for minimal effort. In 1v1 he struggles to kill, but in 2v2 his partner can easily do the killing instead. Reindog is so broken in alpha and almost always has over 400 damage done at the end of a 2v2. The fire effect does way too much damage it is not even fair. Considering the game is 4 kills rather than stocks, Reindog avoids taking excessive damage anyways. He is played because he is so easy to play and projectile ranged. His only downside is mitigated by a partner.
