It was always a silly argument. Especially considering most players dont even play as a team in OW1 to begin with. Just one of those little things that caught on and people repeated for whatever reason

My experience in the beta has been a lot more grouping up and making plays together, even w/o comms. It's almost as if having two less tanks to focus on makes it easier for players to quickly read and react to situations. Good stuff.

@@ajaythagod8769 Honestly the deathmatch argument was already incredibly stupid. Like all these people debating what "deathmatch" means but we all know they were referring to the quintessential TDM in which players just rush around at full speed killing anything in sight, or alternatively camping out in a single spot and shooting anything in sight. I can't believe anybody thought OW could ever become that given the obvious focus in hero roles (tank, support, DPS), the extremely OBJECTIVE-ORIENTED gameplay (which is inherently basically the opposite of a deathmatch), and the wide range of heroes with drastically different abilities and potential. Like I even heard OW content creators and pros repeating this sentiment, and I couldn't help but wonder if anyone had actually played a team deathmatch before. I've played deathmatches in several FPS games, and they are literally just a space where people go and try to kill as many people as they can before dying. There is no strategy (besides individual positioning), no purpose, and no teamwork. I have a friend that plays a lot of deathmatch games and top frags literally every lobby he's in, who hates and can't play Overwatch because you can't just walk in by yourself and defeat an entire enemy team through aim alone. Two mediocre FPS players working together in OW can easily beat one extremely mechanically good player (who doesn't know how OW works). I only play OW casually, but put me and a friend playing Roadhog and Zenyatta against a CSGO player who's the highest rank playing McCree, and I can guarantee we dust him easily. The fact that there are certain roles that are basically made to be impossible to beat 1v1 already nullifies the "deathmatch" argument, much less the obvious need to group together to survive by decreasing your own target priority and freeing up space to actually shoot the other team. I feel like anyone who actually played Overwatch for at least a few months should understand that it's basically impossible to make the core OW gameplay a deathmatch, unless you literally took out every gamemode in the game and replaced it with actual TDM rules (first to a certain amount of kills, or a life pool). Even then, Overwatch had a TDM mode, and at higher levels if you didn't pick a bunch of tanks and like one healer, you were basically throwing. Why? Because OW isn't supposed to be a TDM, when you can play anyone you want, why would you not pick the objectively strongest characters in the game, the tanks? (This is also the argument against open-queue. Nobody wants to have a team of 5 dps against 4 tanks and a healer.) OW2 was never going to be anything remotely "deathmatch"-like. I even think saying it is MORE "deathmatchy" is a dumb statement, because what people mean by that is that there's more individual impact in games now. This is obviously the case since its one less player on each team, but why would you compare that to deathmatch, of all things? Like I said above, deathmatch has always meant the "turn off your brain and shoot at enemies" gamemode in every FPS game. Deathmatch isn't used in reference to "games that involve players trying to kill enemy players" (instead of other roles). If this was the case, why not describe every FPS gamemode out there in reference to deathmatch? Battle Royale is just TDM but more teams. Capture the Flag is just TDM but you're trying to bring a flag back. Payload is just TDM but you have to stand next to a moving box. Like it doesn't make much sense, right? So, yes, you could technically say Overwatch (and OW2) is just TDM but every player has different abilities, some of which revolve less around killing and instead sustaining themselves and teammates, some are movement abilities, some are CC, and all of these abilities are integral to being able to beat the enemy team since some abilities fully counter or severely handicap the utility of other abilities, also every character has a different hitbox, meaning the vulnerability of each character changes based on their size, also some players have armor and are therefore extremely hard to kill and are in fact better handled by simply ignoring and running away and targeting other enemies, and abilities are actually predictable and reactable most of the time because they have certain sound queues that allow you to prevent or at least minimize the damage to your team, and also abilities work together in ways that actually multiply or sometimes exponentially increases the damage output you can do (and increase the damage you can take), meaning playing near your teammates has several tangible benefits, and playing solo against a team playing together practically guarantees a quick defeat no matter how skilled you are at aiming... Or you could just say it's not TDM at all. Because it isn't. OW and OW2 are hero shooters. MOBA/FPS hybrids. It's not that Overwatch has no deathmatch elements at all. It's just exceedingly weird to bring up those elements and say they are all OW has to offer. (OW2, despite it's several balance changes, has all the exact same mechanics and gameplay essentials that I just described in the above paragraph, so it's not an exception) Sorry, that ended up way longer than I meant it to be. I just keep seeing this "deathmatch" comparison and getting irritated. I play other FPS games that have deathmatch and the Overwatch 2 PVP Beta experience is not even remotely similar to "COD" or "Battlefield", and I think it's ridiculous to even compare them.

Overwatch 2 tanking actually looks like a more fun experience now for the average player. I enjoy the tank combos in overwatch but it’s hard to find good cohesion in the role out of higher elos.

Idk there's definitely more individual carry potential than OW1 had, so you can turn a game a lot easier than before, these teams just weren't remotely balanced.

Yeah, he also had to heal Emongg on Rein, which may have forced Sleepy into bad positions. Like at 18:10, when Flats charges him on the stairs, he's in a very close position with no escape.

Was number 1 Ana for a while. Was a streamer for TSM up till a few months ago. TSM is calling apart so, they let people go snd didn't resign after contract ended.
