If you like the awesome and melodic grandiosity of Power Metal but want a different approach/aka not metal, check out Two Steps from Hell if you haven't, epic trailer/music OST type of music Strength of a Thousand Men, Dragon Rider, Nero are good starts
I've been big on this type of music for over a decade and sadly most music can't compare, it's like a drug, I have a tolerance for awesome music and the high is hard to find
No, they were considered just "heavy metal", plain and simple. Later, Helloween took Iron Maiden sound (with some thrash metal hints here and there) and created what we call now "power metal".
As a die hard Maiden fan, that's a great job! Well done. As for the "are Iron Maiden power metal?" debate. The answer is No. They're not. Just because they've influenced power metal artists, does not mean they are power metal. Having been founded in 1975, they came through the "New Wave Of British Heavy Metal" movement in the mid to late 70s. Doubt the term "Power Metal" existed back then...
Helloween are the first PM band, aka the eldest brother of the genre imo Maiden is like the father of Power Metal, laying the groundwork for their "offspring" to take the next step, whether it's melodic EuroPower or the more thrashy US Power Metal side
Reinxeed this is more like it. Giving Aces High a Swedish Power Metal touch as this fits you like a glove. Golden Resurrection sounds like a Holy Iron Maiden too. Aces High is a hard track to sing as Bruce hits some very high notes on this. Tommy you should try to cover Breadfan by Budgie as well as The Headless Cross by Black Sabbath.
Same, just so happens they are two of my favorite Maiden tracks I sorta discovered the depth of Iron Maiden's discography after I got into power metal...gotta respect the classics, plus Hallowed Be Thy Name and Somewhere in Time as a whole are hugely influential too, 80s Maiden was pretty much untouchable
@kepalajamuran oh my brother of metal! I like Bodom's cover to,but this cover oh god this cover simply Blows ALL and I do mean ALL other covers of Aces High to kingdom come.
Wrong. Keep in mind how long Iron Maiden's been doing this. When they first came on the scene, Iron Maiden was absolutely considered power metal (though still apart of the NWOBHM movement). The genre has evolved into a sound such as Stratovarius, Sonata Arctica, Lost Horizon, Emerald Sun and the like.
While I cannot honestly "dislike" this song, personally I have yet to hear a cover that I could ever honestly consider better than the original. The timing and arrangement of the original were perfect, allowing you to hear every note and instrument clearly while playing as fast as possible without the instruments and vocals "stepping on each other's heels". For myself at least, they have failed at matching that level of composition.
yes I agree. The Trooper or Run to the hills could be quite good I think or something more slow like Fear of the dark. Also Can I play with madness or The evil that men do,would sound great as a cover I think.
It can be seen as the black sabbath of power metal (like, even before Helloween and Gamma Ray and the stuff that sounded closer to the more modern day music). But yeah I consider Maiden to be just good old fashioned heavy metal :P
It's cool to hear a power metal version of this song and I give them credit for making a decent go at it. Seems like they thought it thru to not butcher it like cradle of shit and children of bodom. Machine men still have the best cover while this is top 5.
It wasn't easy to fly -- a substantial number of Luftwaffe pilots were killed in accidents trying to fly in them, especially in the later versions, which were prone to ground looping. The cockpit was also incredibly cramped compared to the Fw190 and any comparable Allied fighter.
