This happened years ago on a flight I was on. It was rough and the pilot said another plane had been cleared to land on the runway we were taking off on. All I wanted to do was get off.
Very common in the US for aircraft to be cleared to land whilst and aircraft is rolling, why? No idea. Not safe in my opinion. However, this in the UK isn't the case as the runway must be "sterile" (nothing on the runway) before landing clearance is issued.
Great catch. On the Boeings (Airbus too but not familiar with the particulars) we arm the auto-brakes to RTO (rejected takeoff). Once you hit 80 knots, 92 mph, if you pull back the power the autobrakes apply max braking. Going from accelerating to max braking seems like hitting something even if you didn't.
@@Babacaru Yeah probably. The RTO mode is close to max manual braking, which is extremely powerful. It happened right around when the engines were spooled down and the pilots had most likely selected idle reverse thrust. That is when the RTO autobrake was activated and applied maximum hydraulic power to the brakes, going from an accelerating moment to a rapid deceleration moment, which most likely felt like the plane struck something on the runway.
did the pilot run over like a bird? either that or he hit some form or debris either biological or inanimate because that was a very loud thud just after the brake
