Relearn TPMS On My GMC Terrain Manually Without a TPMS Tool

This will be my first attempt at performing a TPMS relearn on my SUV. I did not have the tool so I researched how to do it manually. It was fairly easy but since it was new to me it was a bit long and noisy while inflating the tires. Please bear with me! 😊 This was done using only a Phillips screwdriver to deflate the tires and a Stanley Jumpit 1000 peak jump starter/120 psi air compressor.

I got a 2012 GMC Terrain and went to Mr Lube and they did it for free. My rear right said it was low and it actually was my front right. They checked all my tires for correct 35PSI and reprogrammed the computer to the correct tires. I bought the vehicle a year ago from a dealership and when doing the inspection on trade ins they had put the right side tires on the wrong wheels.

My dealer has done mine free also. In seconds with a tool. 😂 I don't plan on doing that again unless I need to. It's all just a learning experience for me. The tire positions must be relearned after rotations, repairs, etc. Some places forget to do that unfortunately. 💕💜💕

@@Mscross Yup, they stuck a hand held thing into a slot under the dash and then went around the tires with the thing getting horn beeps. Way better and faster then deflating your tires and inflating them again. Whole process took 10 minutes and it was FREE

@@brentwhiteside6805 it only took my dealer about 2 minutes or less to relearn mine. And free it was.

It seems to be a recurring problem. Another sensor has malfunctioned. 🤦🏽‍♀️

Hate isnt a strong enough word to describe my feelings on this bullshit GM tire pressure system.

I wholeheartedly agree! My left rear has now stopped monitoring my tire. I will not be replacing the sensor. 🤦🏽‍♀️

I'm having a similar issue...my rear passenger shows 0 psi. When I engaged relearn mode and started with my driver front tire, I could never get a horn blow signal. Does this mean my driver front sensor needs replacing?
@Mscross
@Mscross 4 года назад
It's possible. You can go by an o'Reilly's auto parts and they can check it with a tool for you for no charge. I went to my dealership and they verified for me that my sensor was dead. 🤦🏽‍♀️

One of my tires were reading low and I put air in. I pushed relearn and it showed -- on all four tires as well. I let air out of all four tires and it is still the same reading of -- ... Now I am waiting to hear my man yell at me🤔🙄
@Mscross
@Mscross 3 года назад
Oh no. I would take it to a dealership and let them use the tool to relearn. It should be free. Also bad tires can cause a -- reading. I'm am certain that all 4 sensors are not bad. Only one of mine was bad.

Where is location of sensor?
@Mscross

It's located in the tire. On the valve, I think.

I'm so sorry to hear this. They have a tool also that will relearn tire positions as well as diagnose a failing or dead sensor. They are inexpensive around $15 US.

Did it also clear your check engine light???
@Mscross
@Mscross 4 года назад
The check engine light was on only because I had to position the key to see the tire pressure status without starting the car. Once I start the car it is no longer illuminating.
