This comment was written using the voice-to-text feature. I will not be re-recording any of the sentences if it gets wrong because I believe that it will probably work well enough even though this is my first time using it. I'm lying on my back and barely even trying when speaking so most of my words are slurring together and yet it still seems to work. I am very happy that there's many different themes, and hopefully, if it doesn't give me any terrible crashes or troubles, I will be purchasing it within the next couple days. Shout out to the whole foodo team that worked on this. Thank you for the amazing keyboard looking forward to what you have next.
Maybe it was pride. A fair few people pronounce Futo (as in, Futo Maki) as Foodo. And the AI thought; "That is NOT my name! I will not answer to that!". :p
possibly, also i still use my OpenBoard Setup since i still dont know how to make the Ai models for Indonesian langiage on FUTO and that thing wasnt ibcluded and yes i dont bother edit the mistakes in comments and i use edit to add new context insteax
@@shiro3146 I mean, I get it from a "look at what it can do" perspective. But if you don't edit your comments on the internets in general, you'll be adhering to the "don't ask me to be more clear, just put more effort into trying to understand what I mean" school of typing. :p And at least in World of Warcraft, that gets you healed just a tiny bit too late. Oopsie.
I really enjoy using the keyboard but sadly, it crashes constantly for me 😿 (a few characters into typing in a field) I'm really excited to try it again in a little while once some of the launch bugs have been ironed out though!
Love the keyboard! Paid for it and Grayjay BC it's really refreshing to have great software made by people that it feels like I can actually trust! And Louie was right, even if software is open source (or source first) we should still pay for it so developers can earn a decent living. Happy to do so!
@@brahtrumpwonbigly7309 I've just downloaded the keyboard, and unfortunately swipe typing rn is shit. Back to gboard for now, but I have hope that in a month or two this keyboard will be usable for me.
I wonder whether if enough people become aware of it, Google will just not show transcriptions to users any more. But they'll either store them anyway or in an "anonymized" manner.
Mhm, and we keep ignoring the fact that -everything- goes through our keyboard app. Seeing how Microsoft's Swiftkey is the second most pre-installed one after GBoard is like having two evils but neither being a lesser one :D
it doesnt cost them anything to offer the deletion. they only need to process it when it's created to add to their model of you and for training data. but they store it for your convenience, they've already converted it to training data the same day you sent it
@@onthefence928 The raw data can be used to train different models and used to learn features that weren't learned by weaker "architectures". 90s neural net would have barely gotten voice activation down while a model in 2030 will most likely be able to predict perfectly whether you can be aroused to a state where you will buy a certain product just from a couple words.
Have you checked out all the settings. You can download and import other models and dictionaries. Anyways, I love it too. It’s refreshing using something we trust and it works.
Downloaded. Installed. Immediately, it is the best keyboard on my phone. Touch targets feel larger and more precise. I don't use transcription anything, but just typing on this keyboard is a far superior experience than any other on my Android. Thank you for making this product.
Agreed, it actually picks up the right letter that i am trying to type. I never used voice transcription before because I didn't want to be spied on, so I can't really compare to others, but that works surprisingly well too!
*Louis, congratulations on this release. Even in pre-Alpha this appears very capable and well executed for 'Droid phones. Now, please release this for Win7, 8, 10 and 11 users. Thank you also for revealing Google Takeout's decades long miscreant behaviour. Love ya'!*
Whisper is open weight. You can easily run the model the keyboard uses on linux. The problem would be integrating it into the DE, but with GNOME working on portals global shortcuts for wayland, this should be easy to implement when that releases.
Alright, just tried it, and I love it even more now! The buttons are crazy big and easy to hit, and it feels like I can type way faster than on the default Samsung keyboard.
I'm still using Microsoft Keyboard sadly Dutch, Turkish and German have limited support on Futo, but I'm still waiting for the full release. Please also add internet slag language to your dictionary as optional
Same here, would love to use futo but there's no support for Japanese sadly. Hopefully they figure something out in the future because it seems like a nice keyboard otherwise.
Love the keyboard, it works really well, and the voice detection in English is the best I've ever used. I just need to wait for a bilingual English-French training model to be able to fully switch to it, as we tend to use a lot of English words while speaking French so constantly switching languages is impractical.
Have you tried downloading the multilingual model and assigning it to french? Also apparently the multilingual model works as a translator when spoken to in a different language than the assigned one
This is already much better than any other open source keyboard app I've used before! It's very close to beating gboard, but not quite there yet... I'm looking forward very very much to seeing the further development! I will be trying to use this as much as possible!
Update: I'm still using the FUTO Keyboard app by the way! It's definitely already passable enough to be a daily driver! I do miss some stuff from gboard, but it's not enough to be a deal breaker.
I'm trying this keyboard out right now and it is goddamn awesome. Thank you FUTO, now this has convinced me to support you guys and even try out Immich!
Hey Mr Rossman. I was watching a recent video of yours and you mentioned this great project at the end of the video and I stopped everything I was doing and came check it out. I was sick and tire of Google speech to text always needing an internet connection because sometimes I would go to the mountains due to my job where I have no signal but needed to take notes so the app became useless. Glad to say I felt in love with FUTO. it's exactly what computing tech ALWAYS needed to be: local, private and OFFLINE. Hopefully this project will inspire others or even yourselves to come up with a phone assistant AI that's also the same
I sent this video to my friends and explained Futo's mission to them. They are super receptive to the mission and they have all installed the keyboard. Again, thank you Louis and Futo. We need more of this in the world.
A good start and I donated to support. However I'm making a lot more mistakes and finding the spelling correction to not be very helpful currently. Swipe typing also gets a lot more words wrong. I know that will all improve over time, but I can't yet use it as my daily keyboard so I'm switching back and forth. However speech to text worked very well for me. Thanks for releasing this and looking forward to using it more and more.
Great keyboard!! Installed it a few days ago, when going through Louis's videos. When you say no internet connection, its really not connected to the internet!! Its really amazing to use!! Thank you FUTO team!!
This was a instant download for me, there're still some things I miss. Especially automatic light and dark mode, being able to change the width of the keyboard (for phones with rounded edges), and there should be more symbols in the menu that pops up, when you press the dot, but the keyboard itselft is really awesome!
Whaaaaaat this is so good! Currently typing and speaking with the FUTO keyboard. AMAZING JOB! This is such a live-saver for my mother who uses text to speech a lot and it never gets good results with google. Thank you!!!
Loving it, downloaded it after Louis made the vid and seeing the positive comments. Although I'm not someone who likes using voice input. Using the keyboard and the show symbol hints. Hoping for more themes or at least different kind of colors. Also, hoping you make a calendar app(for reminders as well) and notepad kind of app, something for taking notes. Thanks! Also, I haven't paid yet. Hehe Will do in the near future although it said error in the playstore.
This is a great idea in theory. However, I can see this keyboard working only if your language of choice is English and English ONLY since other languages have limited support. I hope English-only speakers do adopt it so it can continue to improve though.
I remember when I set up Google Keyboard and voice assistant years ago something about it recording them, and I actually went in and listened to a few after testing. I definitely didn't read pages of fine print. I'm already jaded enough to know that everything they can log and store, they do, and that this feature was simply allowing me to access these recordings. I hadn't thought about someone hacking into the account and accessing them, though.
Just installed it and it immediately feels like the best smartphone keyboard I've used in a long time! Seriously, typing hasn't been this good since Microshite bought SwiftKey, if ever! And I absolutely LOVE that it uses the standard android design (material?), because it doesn't look like an open source, pre-alpha keyboard, it looks like what the standard keyboard SHOULD look like! And also feels like the default keyboard should! 👍
Keyboard is already good. The swipe typing is such an important feature. Just need to fix the layout (it's borked compared to google keyboard - empty symbol row and slash in the wrong place) and it'll be basically perfect
I already paid for multiple copies of it and put it on everybody's phone because I liked the idea of a keyboard that doesn't need the internet to be functional. The voice to text is actually pretty damn good, even for somebody like me who has a Southern accent.
I have been using it for a week or two. Its great! The only feature I'm missing is the ability to add multiple dictionary languages to a single keyboard layout. It's a bit of a pain to have to change the keyboard layout or manually change the dictionary used every time I switch between my native language and English, which I have to do constantly.
I've been using FUTO keyboard since the video on Louis' RU-vid. Using the mic from my s22 Ultra it can decipher my rapid talk, with large amounts of construction background noise. I find using a Bluetooth microphone, it shows the drastic difference in quality. I will remove my ear buds, prior to talking to text. Where it shines for me, is Google maps. Frequently going to country roads where it's more numbers and routes than names. I'm able to speak the address and have *so far* 100% accuracy.
And we LOVE it! I'm using keyboard and voice. Grayjay also; FUTO software rocks!!! Thank you - let us know how to donate/purchase... we want to support you.
One day I started getting some emails from google with "places I've been to in the last month". It had everything, exact route time spent in a place, places I've been in. It was scary, and I'm fairly technical, I would have noticed agreeing to so much data being collected if it was presented to me in a readable way (not buried in some TOS agreement). Now imagine what kind of information your cell provider has, your home internet provider, your car manufacturer... it's insane the kind of surveillance going on today.
A big bottom side "keyboard offset" is a godsend because I tend to keep pressing the space bar instead of the middle button. The keyboard gives a good first impression: sleek and has the everyday features.
I had the anysoft keyboard but their development mentality and release cycle was aweful. There aren't many keyboards that can compete with gboard, but FUTO is on the right track. Hope we get more language suggestion models soon. Great job anyways!
Not as solid in text typing as Gboard, but already very impressive. I don't really use voice input that much, however I really do type a lot. Important points for me so far: • Language switching is a bit too slow. I do switch between languages a lot, so it's critical to me • Customization is still limited. More options, like the latter size and custom themes, would be nice to have. I've seen that custom themes are coming, so it's definitely positive • Swipe typing works not that well. But only two weeks in use (maybe still not enough training?) • Advanced clipboard that Gboard uses is a game changer, so it would be nice to have something like it in FUTO Keyboard in the future. But apart from that... Great job! Already much better than almost any other general purpose open source keyboard. Keep it up :)
This keyboard is extremely good at being a keyboard. Where Gboard excels compared to FUTO is swiping across the keyboard and getting everything correct. I love how I can use AMOLED black and turn off key borders; it might save some battery! Awesome work.
Alright, like everybody else here, I'm putting in a voice comment just to see what happens. And you know what? It's actually working pretty well. So color me impressed. Great work, Louis and team.
Add the language switch, hotkey, and this app is pretty golden basically. PS. This comment was brought to you. by your app voice recognition (with minor polishing edits.)
I haven't watched the video yet, I went straight to the play store to download the app and am already loving it! I tried paying for it and it says it's unsupported. My only thing so far that I'd like to suggest is to allow the same models that FUTO Voice has (normal, slow, slowest). I know I can just use FUTO Voice, but just wanted to throw it out there
The Futo keyboard is GREAT! Only issue I have is the draw to type is not up to par, it rarely detects the correct words but I have no doubts it will get better! Purchased :)
I wrote this comment using the Fudo Voice typing app after doing some testing myself. It's shocking how well it captures the Australian accent and different types of speech. ((Aside from writing Futo as Fudo it did perfectly! Buy a licence folks its worth supporting this.))
This sounds great (though I don't use voice to text precisely because I don't like it going through the internet). I will, however, wait for you to include more languages. I don't much care about spanish voice to text (Though I just found the multilingual model thing) but I do need a Japanese keyboard... Hopefully you decide to add it someday, despite the amount of development it will need and the, most likely, small user base for it. Until then, I'll use it for english. EDIT: Spanish Qwerty has no Ñ!!!! I can't use a keyboard without a Ñ guys! :D Let me know when you update these things.
I dont even use the voice feature bc you know roommates. But its so much frickin better than Gboard that really gets to all of your G spots. This gets all the way in.
I do read the licence agreement - mostly - but some parts i dont understand and i still click (mostly) that i understand :) To be honest i read the licence agreements because when i was young you had to read the whole licence agreements and only alter you get "next/ agree"
I have installed the keyboard and voice input from the FUTO F-Droid repo. Other than the setup being a bit buggy (menu back-action not working properly in some places), it seems to work great. I'll try it out for a bit and will likey throw some money at the project to support Alex and the rest of the FUTO projects.
Installed it last week - biggest issue right now is that apostrophe and forward-slash are difficult to get to. Please put those in the pop-up from the period-longpress
Really loving this keyboard, the only thing that i have issue with is being able to enable split mode when im unfolding my foldable phone or using a tablet, or even just turning my phone sideways.
Unfortunately I am not longer searchoing for great mobile keyboard. "Unexpected" keyboard is the one that is the best. Swiping keys in certain directions allows for typing additional characters without "tap and hold and move over key you want to type". I mean there are of course things that can improve: It probably lacks enlarging the "hitbox" pf keys based on dictionary (If I am not wrong this is now on many popular keyboards) and also I would like to see keyboard that allows mew to switch modes so I can either type with swype (to write entire words) or the way I described above. Btw. It is great that It is possible to use futo speech tp text as standalone app
As a software developer, this warms my heart! Thank You luise and Futo Team for giving us software devs hope, that there might be a future, where I can build amazing software and not sell my soul to the devil! Thank You for fighting !!!
I've been waiting for offline voice recognition for years! :-D any chance you're going to have some sort of api or integration so the voice recognition can be used with home automation systems? like.. maybe a mapping of a voice command to make an api call out, something like that? I literally want to tie this to everything from retrieving wather data, setting reminders, etcetera, based on an android or windows (yeah I know, I know, but linux is.. ugh).. for daily functions. :-)
Googles been doing this weird thing lately where Ill have text conversations on a whole different app, and whatever key topics I typed out using the google keyboard will then get recommended to me via ads or youtube shorts etc etc. (near immediately when I open youtube after talking about bicycles for example, Ill get a bike short when that bike convo was an isolated incidence). If anyone else has had similar issues would be nice to hear. I dont have anything other than a hypothesis as of now but would love to try this new keyboard.
A small tip on your website, please share the price before asking for the mail id. I am sure it is reasonably priced, but at the same time 'reasonable' is not necessarily 'affordable' to everyone 🙂
I believe Louis mentioned that technically you could be on trial "indefinitely", which means you don't really have to pay anything unless you want to. If people don't find it affordable to give a small donation, they could choose not do it at all.
Its fantastic for speech to text, but swiping and typing is a nightmare. I regularly find myself switching back to Google because the text predictions are hot garbage regularly. Maybe I'm just too used to Google predicting what I'm trying to say but honestly I'd rather have a handwriting keyboard than the swipe/type that futo has. I'm regularly in places where I don't want people overhearing what I'm saying so speech to text doesn't help me there, but a handwriting feature would be nice. I'm not a hater, I love the idea behind this keyboard and I hope it gets better!
Keyboard looks good. I love that we can inport local ML models, awesome!! You will definitely get my money when there is a dutch predictive text model. The large universal voice to text model already works very well, I'm quite impressed. Just one small question : Is there any benefit with using FUTO voice input over the FUTO keyboard voice input? Cheers Louis
I stumbled upon your channel and found your content interesting. But as with most youtube creators, i never actually took you serious as most channels blatantly spread false information. i still feel that way about youtubers as a whole, but you're no longer just another youtuber, you've actually made something which in my eyes has elevated you to an entrepreneur. ie, you're no longer just another TMZ host. Congrats, i hope you continue this path and do even greater things.
Its a start but honestly i NEED the features from a blackberry keyboard to survive, as someone who can spell more often than not, to the point i disable autocorrect for the past 10 years, swiping up to fill a predicted word is ideal, and swipe left to delete is the only way, ill never understand how people use the spaghetti noodle to type, and the BB keyboard is what i have to use until a new physical keyboard phone releases.
