Releasing an Orangutan Back into the Wild 

Prior to the pandemic I had the privilege and traveling to Borneo numerous times with colleagues from the Oregon Zoo. We worked closely with team members of the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation to teach animal training skills to help them achieve their goals of returning orphaned, injured, rescued, and rehabilitated animals back into the wild. On one trip they allowed us the honor of opening the doors of the transport boxes, bringing several orangutans one step closer to a return to the wild. This female was one of the orphaned youngsters raised by the caregivers on staff and ready for the next stage.
