Reliance Industries Limited is India's largest conglomerate. Everything it does is at huge scale. As it evolved from a textile to petrochemicals to Oil Refining company, two words defined the company, execution and scale. It put huge projects very quickly and low costs.
In the previous decades it dominated petrochemicals, refining and other industries. About 2 decades ago, when it first started entering into businesses where it had direct relationship with the retail customer, there were many doubters.
Today, Reliance Jio and Reliance Retail dominate Retail and Telecom in a manner never seen before. Its online presence in the form of Ajio is also growing, while it has bought a huge clutch of luxury and popular brands.
It is building huge new businesses based on the success of Jio.
So the Reliance of the 2030s may be increasingly a Telecom, Retail and perhpas a retail finance company more than a commodity petrochemical company or a refiner.
One of the secondary objectives of this reinvention seems to be planning for succession management at Reliance Industries Limited.
