Hi Beau - If you haven't already found it out - the VR and Crown logo are patent marks and probably indicate it is an English Lock. The VR stands for Victoria Regina (Queen Victoria). It likely dates between 1840's and 1901

Wanted to thank Beau for his videos..was hunting in new spot and wasn't familiar with the animal traps.(we are super new at it).found one in the creek that could've been functioning although rusted..we were able to steer clear recognizing them from similar ones that Beau finds....just one of the many things I have learned watching Beau's vids.

Beau, Just think of all the tasty frog legs those tadpoles will one day be :) I have a chance of being the first metal detectorist to hunt a privately owned historically important site. It has a privately owned museum on it. The finds would go to the museum. If I get the go ahead, would you like to come up here to WA and take part? Part is land and part is beach/ ocean.

Have you ever found a hand-held fire hose from forest firefighters. Because in the creek behind my woods a found 2 brass nozzles and half of tank that they wore on their backs. The straps and hose were cloth so must have deteriorated a while back. Also nice vids!

Next time you find a strong box lock, look around the entire area for gold coins. :) Also if you find a giant piece of Iron you can't take with you. Set it aside somewhere noticeable so you don't detect it twice when your in the area again. You've been doing this your entire life so I know you're aware of that. Keep @ it and HH !!

in my u.s history class we briefly learned about the bullets, so about 15-30 seconds. He was talking about the Minie, and he said it wasnt pronounced mini, but like minai. This made me mad, since you and nugget say mini. Also, my wishlist of finds are currently an Indian head penny, a horse-shoe, a gold ring, civil war belt buckle, and any civil war bullet. While just walking through a farmers field, no gear on me at all, i see a horse-shoe on the ground, i got real excited, even though it was only half. I always seam to find metal, no matter where, like when i found a razor blade buried in some dirt at a retirement home.

Hello Beau! A new subscriber here, been going through your extensive list of videos for a couple of days now. I must say, you make great content! I have been considering getting a metal detector for a while, there are areas within walking distance of me that used to be inhabited but now only contain foundation stones, as well as a ruined sawmill's derelict power plant. Then, next to that an area that was bombed around the time of WW2 where many houses built in the 1800s burned down. I'm thinking I'll catch the bug if I get to metal detect around those places.

Hey Beau that was another fun video! I enjoy seeing what you pull out of the rivers. I try not to hold my breath when you go under though! LOL. I have seen that lock before. The VR stands for Victoria Regina or Queen Victoria. These were made by the firm of Abraham Thompson of Willenhall, England. Best wishes and HH, Dave.

Looks like a British lock. The VR w/Crown should stand for Queen Victoria (Victoria Regina). If it is, that would make it British Goverment property sometime between 20 June 1837 - 22 January 1901. Maybe it's part of some British to Conferderate lend lease?. Nice find.

Always looking forward to more! Thanks

Another great video. Does the VR marking on the old padlock escutcheon (like that word! I'll say it again - escutcheon) relate to any US military marking or could it be the British royal cypher of the time?

Hi Beau Another cool video, amazing what a variety of history you can find that has either been lost in the river or has been washed in from the surrounding fields. The lock that you unearthed with VR on the key plate, do you think that could signify a British origin? A lot of Victorian "official" or government items were stamped or embossed with VR to show its origin and owner. I think it stands for Victoria Regina, you can still find it on old post boxes and similar stuff. Thanks again for the videos, take care. Ian ps Do you have any shots as a preventative measure, just in case of potential infections you could pick up from dodgy water?

Can someone tell me the years in which they made the R.R. locks look like that? The heart shape? I don't have any equipment yet, so I live through these videos but when I do I would so love to find one of those locks.. They are beautiful and so ornate for a task that doesn't need it to be and I really like that.

Nothing neat about an animal trap! They are barbaric, the trapper should stand in one see how they feel wanting to chew their dam leg off to get free, then if successful die from blood loss and/or infection!😕

I dug a piece of brass in the shape of a medal with the exact VR recently. Above the VR is a crown as the lock has too. Below the VR in a curve are stamped letters-- maybe RATENT. What is below on the lock? I found this in Nova Scotia. A foot from this find I dug a 1799 British half cent. So this VR, I believe stands for Volunteer Regiment of the British army - probably from the war of 1812.
