I was surprised how close Shintoism is to my people's spiritualality. Growing up Lakota we were taught that everything has a spirit in it and should be respected. I really like this vid.
For Monotheists the idea that there is a divine spirit in everything is a Non sequitur. You are welcome to believe what you want but I see no proof that the tree in my front lawn is alive with a spirit that I can communicate with.

When the US air force bombed Tokyo during WW2 my mother's aunt dove into a pond to escape the heat. She contracted tuberculosis and ended up in hospital. Shintoism finally made some sense. What I did not understand was if shintoists believe in a spiritual afterlife separated from our reality or if this material world as we perceive it is all there is even as we become "spirits/gods".
But at the time asian culture do not think too much about afterlife or do not give it so much important, so you cannot really find a unique, a single answer even in Buddhsim.

Original idea of Buddha had gone for spiritual search was to escape from a endless pity cycle of life ie. born, grown up, sick and then die and new cycle starts over again. It must has a cause and there must be a way out of these cycle that why he searched for enlightenment via meditation. Lord Buddha has discovered that everything related to mind has three main characters: impermanence, suffering and anatta(can not hold on). Happyness, sadness, depress, anger, greed, love, fear, please, thought and so on are Impermanence. It last in one's own mind as long as mind hold on to it and end once mind found something else to hold on to and reappear again. Those emotions cause mind to suffer because mind is offending the nature as they are Anatta( shouldn't hold on to), Mind should let the nature flows their ways. The problem is mind is a fool which has a "hold on" element as its pocession and that hold on element is the fundamental cause for endless pity reincarnation. The way to eliminate a holding element from mind is to educate mind (enlightenment) by "seeing the the impermanence of holding(ending part)" and once seen a whole wall will collapse. Anybody who has spare time should start to observe one's own mind behavior (that's called meditation) and learn to understand its influences and its implication. Ones might got lucky seeing the end of the impermanence.

First of all, I just want to say I love the heart of the Japanese culture but when comes to religious beliefs I do not align as best I've tried. Respectfully, after some study and watching this video, my understanding of most Eastern religions employ a major central focus on human beings striving to resist "natural temptation" to achieve living a "pure/happy" life and then teaching others how to do so. Western religions assume that all humans are flawed from the beginning. From what I understand so far, Eastern Religions would agree that humans are all flawed otherwise why teach about the struggle against temptation? My point is that Eastern Religions make the assumption humans can overcome the natural temptations of "man" and then eventually achieve Nirvana or otherwise be recycled for another attempt. Western theology would claim that "God" created everything and humans should find a way to return to "God". This takes the focus away from the human and puts it on a Creator. Most of us Christians are old men who talk about murder and sex, but Christ spoke of different things. Some Christians are a little more. . . How Christ intended it to be. Christ said that we were all part divinity, and we can reach that divinity. But he did not limit it to humans, Christ notioned that all things contained the holy spirit. Christians like myself, we believe in meditation to reach our inner light, and it's then that we can become separate from the natural sinful ways of humans. I believe I saw in the comments that people seem to think that the Christian or Abrahamic God, יהוה, was figured like a man. . . But, no, יהוה has no form or figure. He simply is. יהוה says, when Moses asked who he was, he said "I am," and no other description of יהוה is more accurate. He just is, but his spirit inhabits everything as a result. He is, so if something is, it is he. So, If you are, and he is, then he is within you, too.

Most Christians are sadly uneducated in teachings of the Bible. They just go to church and expect to absorb the knowledge. They do not actuality read the bible. We get to have as Christians an inmate and personal relationship with God. He does not always give us what we want he gives us what we NEED to grow in our relationship with him.
